Lovely sound at the very end when it is driving away in the dark.

One of these engines needs to be made into a chopper bike.
    Can you imagine.....

    Everybody's right!
Yes, strictly speaking opposed-piston diesels have 'super-chargers', but officially engineers refer to their having 'scavenge-blowers' because the super-charger clears out the previous charge's exhaust gas in the 'uniflow' manner, unlike that attached to a four-stroke. The exhaust piston then closes its port and the blower becomes a 'super-charger', compressing the air in the cylinder momentarily until the inlet port is closed by the inlet piston, known as 'piston lead'. These engines are therefore known as 'uniflow-scavenged' opposed-piston types. All happy now?

DaveDeltic lots of 2 cycle diesels have a blower in general, not just the opposed piston engines.

    Fantastic!

Graemets3, 66orton is correct. The TS3 motor is supercharged, the term "blower" is slang for supercharger. The supercharger is gear driven as opposed to a turbocharger which is driven by exhaust gases.

I love the TS3 but the beginning of the video sounds like the invasion of the Daleks...!

British engineering these engines were very economical and powerful for there cubic capacity gave much bigger four stroke engines a run for there money

They had a good power to weight ratio. But I heard they don't like being over worked or over revved, the quill shaft would break

@@rbagel55 They certainly like being overworked. In New Zealand and Australia, they often had twice or three times the designated load on them. If you want some examples, send an email to howarddotpettigrewatxtradotcodotnz One 14 ton tractor / tipulator unit had to be unloaded by hand because the tipulator body couldnʻt be lifted. It went over the scales at an all up weight of 42 ton - and the former driver still has the scales ticket! It was over revving going down hill that caused the quill shaft problems with no engine breaking because of the two stroke and it didnʻt happen often.

There are different types of superchargers. As Trevor correctly says, the TS3 uses a Roots (no e unlike the company that made them) type constant velocity blower running at 5lb in old money made by Wade. I was told off by Don Kitchen, one of the small team that bought the TS3 to fruition (just had his 95th birthday 2 months back) and former Rootes Diesel Engine Divsion head, responsible for much of the TS3/ TS4 development, for calling the TS3 supercharged. It was ʻblownʻ! If anyone is interested in the history of the development of the TS3 - Two Stroke 3 Cylinder, not Tilling Stevens 3 Cylinder as popularly misreported, email me and I can give you the complete history of the TS3 / 4 from Don - the REAL story from inside! howarddotpettigrewatxtradotcodotnz

Two-stroke diesels are blown. Do your home work.

No you do your homework. They were blown with a roots type super charger at one pt five bar the supercharger mounted on the front of the engine driven of the gear train.
