      @@Harp_and_Guitar_Moving_Forward I can confirm that the 57/62 reissues from the 80s have those tuners.
      Otherwise if you plan on getting a new guitar (vintage series or whatever), it's really easy to spot if that's the type of tuner it features ("vintage tuners").
      (Btw with this system, you cut off the end of the string before you place it. So you keep, beyond the targetted tuner, more or less 2x the distance between two tuning pegs.)

      When you change out parts, especially adding something vastly different than the original. Some ppl don't like that. I can tell you, I have 9 guitars. All are of quality and tuning stability is the last of my worries. To each their own.

    • @Harp_and_Guitar_Moving_Forward
      @Harp_and_Guitar_Moving_Forward  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There shouldn't be any kinks. The only kinks are when you are on acoustic and you kink the ball end, or when you are about to cut the excess string after winding. You kink the string upwards.
      Otherwise you pull the string to tension, make sure it is properly secured at the bridge and the nut. Then you leave almost 2 inches of slack so strings don't break. You then pay close attention to this winding method.
      You can see on a recent livestream when a string broke after I got a guitar delivered. So I had to replace that one string. So make sure it is pulled to tension first, then back up leaving slack. Get a string winder to help.

      It can be scary at first, but now I don't think twice about it. There are differences between 6 and 12 string instruments, but just remember you are dealing with strings in pairs.
      So the step by step actions like loosening the strings, removing old ones, securing strings, tuning up, are all important still.
      Once you know the where to start, and the order the strings go, you can know that this method works for all sorts of guitars with different headstock configurations.
      So you can do it if you go slowly, and put plenty of time aside. I've got livestreams doing the string change and a regular situation, with cleaning the fretboard went for almost an hour.

      So the string gets pulled to tension, then you measure the inch and a half past the post you are putting the string on. That will be the distance between your 2 hands.
      After measuring it comes back, and you make the loop. This ensures things are clean and neat, and that you have the right amount of slack. So your instrument will stay in tune better. Let me know if anything else comes up.

      A stock yamaha should be fine. Recently I went to a tag sale that had a yamaha with a fake nut and fake bridge pins. It was makeshift. The guy started turning the tuners and it could've taken someone's eye out. The pin flew across the room. So yes, good luck.

It’s not worth this headache for something so apparently simple that everyone has their own “trick”. Easy stuff doesn’t require gimmicks and tricks.

    • @Harp_and_Guitar_Moving_Forward

      The idea is that there are many ways to wind strings and this happens to be the most dependable. Check that it is placed properly in the bridge saddle. Check that the winding is the right direction. Check that slack is being left.
