Yup, it's Chaka Khan singing with Steve, and Nile Rodgers from Chic on guitar. Steve has a huge back catalog of music starting with the Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Blind Faith, as well as a solo artist. One of the most talented artists of my generation.
I was like why does he keep looking down or off to the side. Chaka appeared on screen multiple times throughout the video before she started singing. Every time you were looking away lol 😂
Written by Steve Winwood and Will Jennings. All-star band. Chaka Khan. Nile Rodgers with the hat 👒 here and on rhythm guitar 🎸. Eddie Martinez on lead guitar. The year before, Chaka Khan did backing vocals in the last pre-hook on the Robert Palmer song Addicted to Love. Martinez played lead guitar 🎸 on the other Robert Palmer song Simply Irresistible 1 year afyer this song.
IMO this is one of the most beautiful pieces of music produced in that decade. I agree MRM it is night time driving music I however think it should be played loud.
I have liked this song since it came out in the 80s - the music, the voices & the message. (I find the scantily clad dancers inappropriate in the video though. They may be suited for elsewhere, but not for a song about God.) I saw you look at Chaka Khan & it made me have another look at her - & I KNEW EXACTLY what you were thinking. She really does look like a young Tina Turner there. (I wonder if they are blood-related.)
This man may be the greatest musician of the 20th Century. I don't think he's ever put out a bad record over the last 60 years!
I know what you’re thinking…”that sounds like Chaka Khan!”
This was one of my favorite songs of the 80's. I remember first hearing it and falling in love with it right away. You can't not move to it too!

Love this song! It always makes me feel good and Steve Winwood’s voice with Chaka Kahn is magic! ❤
And of course Chaka Khan singing with him on it. Oh yeah!!
Great reaction as always.
Y'all be safe.
Love Chaka Khan on her own, but her backing vocals with Winwood are epic, and also on many of the tunes on Eric Clapton's Journeyman album. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I’m just realizing the spirituality in these lyrics. Not religion, but just a “we are more than just this.” Very cool.

Stevie Winwood, and Chaka Khan what a great combination
Chaka Khan and Steve Winwood! 😎
Great tune from the 80s! Played it a lot back in the day.
If you don't watch the video this always made me picture a great gospel performance. Just Sayin'

Like that big screen you use for the video. Chaka Khan! Fantastic tune! Thanks!
Good description for this vibe. I could listen to it any time though. It was huge when I was in high school.

Thanks MRM for not pausing every 20 seconds to comment, plus the sound quality and larger video screen is a plus. 🙏🙏
They could have given Chaka a verse , she's the best part of the song tbh
She’s fantastic. Only someone with his voice can come close to matching her.
Song came out in the summer of 1986...
Liked this song then and now!❤
You reacted to Roll With It by Winwood quite a while ago. Higher Love is a lassic song.
Chaka Kahn was one beautiful woman.😎
She still is imo
