I really admire how you set a goal, and then take little nibbles until it's a habit and then big bites until it's part of you. You have really inspired me. Thanks for all you do on this channel, just being yourself!

Thank you sharing about how you used to find it difficult to keep a place tidy and organised in the past, I still struggle with this, so it’s nice to know that I can change and it’s not a fix problem! I often think because I’ve always been like this that I won’t change! x

My cleaning/tidying hack was getting a robot hoover 😆 (obvs not accessible for everyone but it was just a cheap one we got in the Black Friday sales and it works surprisingly well). I'm chronically ill and have executive function issues and a kid so tidying up always seemed like a huge challenge. Now that I have a lil robot buddy (his name is Herbert Hoover 😆) it really helps me as it means I get started on picking everything up, the floors stay clean without the pain of hoovering and then it encourages me to tidy the rest of the things, too. From there I can basically keep more on top of the 5 minute room tidying rather than constantly being stressed and upset about it.

I live in the North, freehold.
I always advised my younger family members to avoid leasehold.
It's a shame the gov did not change the laws re leasehold last year as planned.
Over the last decade, these leasehold service charges have become a real scam.
I think they should have scrapped leasehold. Multi ocupancy buildings (service charges etc) should be run by a non profit association of all the ocupants / freeholders. Then no one is being held to ransom.
    Happy New Year btw

Hair - can totally relate. 55 year old male, grew my hair out for the first time ever during the pandemic and haven't cut it since. Never once in my life did it get comments when it was short, but I now have strangers - so far only women - giving me their opinions.
I'm not going to cut it because it's a useful psychological screening test for whenever I meet someone for the first time.

As a woman who’s had hair up to and beyond her waist for the first 40 years of her life and gradually shorter afterwards because my health ruined its quality, I’d say have the hair that makes you happy and comfortable with yourself. I remember when I gave it a big chop. EVERYONE had an opinion and it was tiresome. No, it wasn’t because I turned 40. No I hadn’t suffered a recent breakup. It wasn’t shiny and healthy anymore, not that it was anyone’s business.
I’ve never had a definite opinion about hair length except this: if it’s clean and well cared for, it’s gorgeous and a joy to look at. The chromosomal makeup of its owner doesn’t matter. Cut it or let it grow, curl it, straighten it, braid it, turn it into to dreadlocks, shave patterns into it, it doesn’t matter. Similarly, someone can look absolutely stunning with a completely shaved head. All it will get from me is a compliment on how good it looks. Why? Because it looks good.
I’ve often complimented people on their hair. Men usually are surprised but hey, it’s gorgeous hair or I wouldn’t compliment on it. They most likely are proud of it because they obviously take good care of it. Even if they aren’t especially proud of it and kind of rolled into having long hair, if it looks good it can make an otherwise crappy day a little less crappy. If they’re proud of it, receiving a compliment on something you’re proud of and/or like yourself is nice to get.
I realise even a compliment is a form of voicing an opinion. That also means I have an opinion on the cashier’s gorgeous earrings, my neurosurgeon’s fabulous shoes (most stylish wingtips ever), the cleaning lady’s wonderful coat (saw it as she was coming in), or my daughter’s former Spanish teacher’s funky new glasses. Loved them all. So I told them. There’s nothing more behind it than me thinking “this looks nice!” and telling them. One thing I do firmly believe in: never, EVER give a compliment if you don’t mean it.
And… for those people who feel the need to make negative comments on someone’s appearance… sorry. That’s just tacky.
Edit: totally understandable you want to cut it. Besides: it’s YOUR hair.

Personally, I love long hair on men! The reason why we get comments on our hair length is because societal norms insist that a proper female has longer hair and a proper male has shorter hair. I always tell them that way back in the day, men had long hair.

I never lived with friends, so living with 2-3 friends always sounded like an ideal arrangement to me. I've lived with assigned housemates (a valuable experience I wouldn't want to repeat) and I've lived with my wife & kids. And I guess my parents if you count childhood.
Family relationships are different from friends, even when it's chosen family. You don't get a private space in the same way you would with your own bedroom. And you have obligations to them that go beyond covering your share of the rent. It's not a bad thing, but it certainly has its own challenges.

Speaking like an oldie!👵🏻 I don’t think I ever commented on your hair but I do always think how awesome it looks and if I had seen you in person I probably would have made a comment because I think nice comments are always nice to receive. Never thought that maybe they are not welcomed even if nice! Food for thought…

I love having my private home to myself. I remember having a brand new leather couch and the first guest - who wore their keys on their belt - obliviously/inconsiderately sat down and scraped it badly. It taught me that it’s best to wear your place in yourself before letting strangers mess it up.

Not entirely neurotic Evan. In I’m my 30’s. The older I get the more I want things that are practical and do a good job. Possibly also have multiple uses. Rather than just having a TON of stuff I don’t use. Although I want things I’m more like- what is the quality of this, will I actually use it, does it look good, is it interesting, what does it do. Even with my collectibles I’m ditching the plastic mass made things like funko pops and I want more of things that are replicas or with Harry Potter stuff that feels like it is really something that would come out of the wizarding world (e.g. gringots coins or hand made replica potion books which Iv gotten off Etsy). I want things that actually make me happy and inspire me.

The thing is there is a time when it's not short but not long and just not quite right somehow. For ages Evans hair seemed to be at that indeterminate stage. It actually looks better now but he has pointed out the practical things about it also as someone with purple hair I know how it feels when your hair is more meaningful to people than you are. Like the late 1950s film star Tony Curtis often said "my hair got famous before I did" and it was true.

I don't have a lot of goals for this year but if I don't end up getting a full time job that takes a lot of additional energy, I'd like to relaunch my channel as an animation channel. Smaller goals are: take some fabric scrap and my favorite pair of jeans to create a patchwork dupe, help my husband with the office reorganization and start selling some collectables with my folks on ebay. Last year was fairly intense with the wedding, helping my dad sell his house and visiting canada for the first time so I'd like to do more bite-sized projects.

As a woman I never got comments on my long hair but when I got a bob a few years ago everyone had an opinion (ranging from: “you looked better and more feminine before” to “you look so cool, it suits your face”).

Evan, I enjoy watching your videos and seeing your take on life. It's good to see some honesty on the platform. I'm so sorry that some people feel they are entitled enough to make comments about your hair, which is something that has nothing at all to do with anyone else. I find it sad that some people think it's OK to do that and that you won't be bothered, or that you'll get it all cut off because their comments ground your gears so much. I hope what I'm going to say next won't be taken out of context or anything, but I thought I'd let you know because I have long hair too and it's very prone to getting tangled at night as I'm sometimes a very restless sleeper. Via another TH-camr I watch (Charlotte Dobray), I bought a cap to wear in bed, just to keep it up and out of the way. They're described as bonnets or silk bonnets when you search for them and look a bit like a Tam o' Shanter when you're wearing them and all your hair is tucked up inside it. I bought mine from Amazon, if you decide you want to look into them. It's really made a difference as well! When I get up in the mornings I just have to run my brush through my hair before doing anything else with it and I don't have any tangles. My hair (which is bottom of my back length-ish) can sometimes be a nightmare to look after and brushing tangles out can sometimes be very painful if they're particularly bad. The bonnets are loads cheaper than buying silk pillow-cases and you can just screw it up and shove it in your pillow-case or pyjama bottoms pocket when you take it off. I hope this is helpful (if not, just tell me to shush 😁). Big congrats on your approaching decade too!

I will happily argue with anyone who doesn’t like Evan’s long hair. I’ve always liked you however your hair looks because I like you as a person. But I do love the long hair a lot (that’s just my personal opinion).
And if you decided to cut it then I will still like you all the same because your style of hair choice doesn’t change who you are as a person.
I’m so sorry that there are so many immature children that think they can rant about a persons, personal appearance choice. It’s your hair and your choice and if people cannot accept that then they don’t deserve the right to be able to watch your videos. ❤😊

In an effort to maintain my Spanish (that I use many days but not all days), I started using a different language app two years ago. In the first year, I skipped about two days a month, which is what the app would allow. A year ago I decided to try to improve my consistency there, and I have only skipped three days in the last year. My goal for the next year is to be just as consistent and to double the amount of time every day I spend in practice.

Unfortunately Evan if you want to live in central London with all the amenities close to you, you will pay a premium for that. Leasehold charges is a rip off and it’s always better to move into a share of a freehold in a residential block that is between 2 and 3 floors maximum. Choosing a flat with stairs and no lifts. Ideally the ground floor would be best. Maintaining lifts in a block of flats adds more costs to the service charges. It’s far better when the residents own the flats you live in and not a developer or landlord. Even better, if you move out into Greater London, in zones 4/6 with good transport links, you may be able to purchase a freehold property instead of leasehold.

I think that because people watch your channel and get invested in your life in videos that they feel comfortable enough to comment on your looks (hair). Maybe the person who also commented at the Post Office (?) also knows your channel. Also I guess because people have seen you with short hair, medium and long that they prefer it a certain way or what they think suits you better. I have my own opinions and don't always mention them but I do love a transformation video where people go from one hairstyle to a completely different one.

No one comments on your hair when it is short because you are fully conforming to their expectations. I choose to not care what anyone thinks - I truly fly my own way on everything. The only observation i find significant is that those who like me - do not judge. Period. I find my friends are infinitely more artistic and entertaining. My favorite analogy is one involving a good friend who gets upset by blatant ignorance, He literally gets very angry, He stomps, He bellows, He is loud and vulgar, and He has tears falling down his cheeks... But at the end of a tirade He laughs, apologizes for his behavior, begs forgiveness from those who do not know him and then buys everyone a drink/ dinner/ cakes etc. We all have a good laugh at the insanity of being triggered by a strangers behavior - instead of the alternative - confrontation! I love him to death for his passion and endless compassion! Truly a good man!

I think people with smallish spaces now must be happy that they are not having to spend a ton on high priced energy to heat a large space or having massive cleaning and maintenance jobs. Also people who move to large houses often end up downsizing at the end of their lives. Those with smaller spaces may avoid that hassle and expense.

Evan, the diversity of your content is enjoyable I think. From home decorating to political information to that wonderful love letter to Chiswick,it keeps us all surprised. Will you include the ceremonial sacrifice of your hair in a film. You should do it for charity. Not in an organized way,too much involved but I'll send a donation to LEPRA off my own bat + any others could voluntarily give a little to their cause of choice. I will anyway. I think it's natural that you wanted to preserve the pristine newness of your hard won home at first.
I would not buy my flat even if I could because of the service charge issue that it seems one has no control over. I hope your young lady will watch this sometime as I feel there was an extra message hidden in there. I agree about wanting to share things. It's so hard to get the balance right in life. Too much company gets annoying but total solitude can start to feel dangerously like isolation.
That time when you were in limbo or even in purgatory waiting for your flat making phone call after phone call it was so stressful,so disturbing,so tense, the sobbing and crying, that was us viewers,I got the impression it was a bit tough on you too.

I can’t understand why everyone feels the need to comment regarding your hair… It’s your hair at the end of the day, so obviously do what ever you feel is right for you.
I will add however, that My fiancé gets the odd comment regarding his long hair too. He can sit on his hair so you can tell from that comment that he wears it long indeed loland people will go “ohhh your hairs so long! Are you planning on cutting it”. He always replies that he has no such plan and he’ll keep it long until his family genetics of baldness kicks in and he loses it all.

Hey @evan, I just want to say something before I go ... I have to stop watching your videos, maybe not forever, but for a while. It's because while I really enjoy your content and always learn interesting things, they don't tell me anything I *need* to know (that's just me - not remotely suggesting that your content isn't useful to others). And I'm just in a situation where life sucks, and in order to make it better, I have to focus intensely on things that are most important to me.
But I will miss seeing you talk about whatever every week. I think you're one of the best TH-cam commentators there is, and you seem like a really kind and genuine person. So I wish you continued success with your channel!

It was probably more common back in the day, but wealthy people like to throw parties and having several different rooms for people to spread out into can be useful for that. Sure, you could have everyone in a giant hall like a stadium or concert, but by having smaller rooms people feel closer together and it can be less noisy in some rooms while other rooms are noisier, etc. etc. Think like The Great Gatsby or Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne's parties. Not everyone who shows up is actually a close friend.

Fill us in on roughly where in London you are? From my base 8 time zones away London could mean Bromley or Croydon. Would you talk about what went into your choosing your particular location? I first spent time there in 1980 and I've been back several times. I can't get enough. I'd be more at home in Glasgow but as a place to spend some time London is in a league of its own.

A shame that people felt such a need to point out the hair all the time. As another guy with long hair I just silently appreciated seeing another guy rocking it too but that's about it. I think the place I live in has the concept a bit more normalized so I don't tend to get many comments on it, but I still get looks most certainly, so I understand just not wanting that in your life, especially when you have so many people watching you. Whatever makes you happiest, that's the important part!

I know you did not ask for hair comments but because you mentioned it I thought I’d say something haha.
I never really noticed it before. Did you maybe have it in a bun most of the time? I find long hair on men can be a bit jarring but is also undeniably cool in many ways. If you are cutting it off I would just plead that instead of going for the full chop, try a few intermediate length styles as you’ve spent so much time growing it it would feel like a shame to go back to just short back and sides. I’ve always wanted to grow my hair to try some more stylish styles but could just never get past the awkward length so would give up too early!!! Haha I’ll stop now
Great video 👍 have a good 2024 depending on my finals I might try out babble, as duolinguo didn’t quite do it for me when I started trying to learn Japanese a few years ago.
