I am a Mainer who mostly bass fishes out of a discovery in a similar pond. Make sure to bring a paddle just in case you have a motor malfunction or the battery is drained. Also that color choice on the soft plastic is right on point! I have been loving your Maine cabin adventures. It is good to see someone buy a rural property in Maine to regularly enjoy nature rather than tear it down to build a mansion that gets used twice a year. Thank you for appreciating our way of life.
As a fellow Mainer, it’s the randoms semi decent sized lakes that hold the best bass, so many lakes interconnected and easy to track to. Good Mainer life
@@ChristianF-vu7nc a favorite lake for me for SO MANY species is Lake Wassookeag. I've DM'd Jon several times for great spots for bass, brookies and lakers.
I've had a 16ft Olde Towne for over 20. Years. I love it. First thing I ever bought. I inherited 1000 bucks from my grandpa, Pappy George, and bought a canoe when I was about 12. Thanks Pappy, I call it Walking Around Money. Cause you always slipped us a few dollars and called it Walking around Money.
I love these style of fishing videos. Solo exploring with a relaxed vibe. For me fishing solo is almost therapeutic. Fishing with friends is fun but it doesn't..idk.. recharge my spirit like solo fishing does. And honestly I think Ur channel was at its peak before u got deep with the googan team. This style video really makes it feel like it's about u and nature
Jon B pulls it off at a lake he drove by 2 years ago, should not be surprised he has caught fish out of a storm drain. He is always on the grind. Thank You Jon
My man on a canoe fishing what you could consider a pond. This is my favorite video of yours for a while. Don't get me wrong. I like the trout fly fishing, the insane smallie days and tournament videos, but something like this just does it. Medium Mouth Bass needs to be a thing.
Someone may have already mentioned this, but for anyone that sees this, remember to bring a lifejacket/pfd with you. Even the best and most experienced kayak/canoe paddlers fall out sometimes. It can save your life, especially when it's 31 degrees out. I might have missed it, but I didn't see one in the canoe with him.
life time Mainer although a couple hours south I think you must be the most enjoyable fishing channel from Maine love bass fishing here in Maine. One word of advice get your canoe registered it's required in maine even with a trolling motor. doesn't cost much and can save you a ticket. Although now that I think aboyt it I've been fishing in maine for 50 plus years and only seen game wardens while fishing twice. Keep on fishing I'll keep watching and have a Merry christmas and happy new year.
Jon my dad used to take me out to fish on a Discovery 158. This video brought me back to my childhood, and also made me want to go take that same canoe out again, because those Old Town Discos last forever. Let me know if you wanna fish in maryland man. I miss those old canoe days
Grandpa again. Great video. I used to fly fish for rainbow trout in the streams of the Pocono Mountains in N.E. Pennsylvania. It was a blast. As I told you before if you want to go to trout heaven go to Lake Illiamna in S.W. Alaska for really big Lake Trout. Only way to get there is by plane. If it ain't more than 25 pounds then throw it back. There are stories of a fish called Lilly and if you don't mind losing your gear then try your luck. Lilly is suppose to be 20 to 25 feet long. Happy birthday. Love Grandpa More fish stories later, some of them are true.😀
I learned a lot from your video as a fairly young bass angler I have been getting better ever since I started watching your videos and I showed you to all of my friends at school!!!
I'm on a pond in Northern NH like this. 2 Discoverys.Pack a paddle and wear a pfd, esp if your standing in a canoe this time of year.. Great vid, thnx Jon B.
I have a 17 foot aluminum canoe with a flat back made for a motor. I think it was made in the 1960's. My dad made something to connect mine and his canoe together with aluminum beams. Then he mounts a trolling motor between them and you can put four adults in it and go to town. He just got his step dads old 12 foot rowboat and trailer so that will be his latest river boat. Too many sandbars on the Wisconsin River to bring his big boat out umless he fishes by the dam. Also I'd suggest a paddle and a seat with a back on it so you can lean back and chill.
I live in Niagara Falls NY I noticed the big bass especially small mouth like jr. scout perch color, slow retrieve, no twitch. Something about cold temps in late fall/early spring up north that’s slows them down. I did a lot of experimenting to find out the like the straight retrieve with a jerk bait over the twitch twitch pause in cold temps
I fish a bog lake like that in Wisconsin--totally hidden, loaded with little bass, and they have a ton of that dark color. I walk my SUP through the woods a half mile to get there, and I've never seen anyone else on it at the same time.
I never caught a bass in the boat, 75-100 white perch, but mostly salmon and trout. Maine ponds have a lot of timber in them, Maine once was the number one lumber and log supplier in the world.
Funny you fished in a canoe when you were a kid. LOL You still are a kid.. Enjoyed the fishing hole. It’s not alway’s about catching big fish. At least they bite. I’ll check out some more Jon. Around Bend Oregon out !!
I fish the same setup out of my canoe. One thing I do to help the balance is extend the leads on the trolling motor and put the battery in the front. You’ll be surprised the difference it makes 🤙 KFNS
well jon you finally managed to fish the same way I do all the time in the same boat! You don't know what a treasure it is that you found in that canoe. I see the keel and the chines and the width it's almost the same as my canoe which is 25 years old now and cracking on the bottom. Old Town doesn't make those any more. Believe me. I'd love to know what you know about their factory shutting down. You should love that boat!
Oh man do you ever gotta get to NY with a canoe. I know some ponds/lakes with some ridiculous bass fishing you can’t access with a big outboard. I’d highly recommend buying yourself a small Radisson or Sportspal
Just want to let you know, you were technically sitting in the front of the boat and mounted the motor in the front. The end that has more room between the seat and the end of the boat is the front as it’s designed to give the person some leg room. Just a friendly reminder😁
Love your vids Jon and I want you to continue the great success you're having here in Maine but I will say, use caution standing and fishing in a canoe.. Especially early and late season when the water is cold and you're by yourself..Many of Mainers have taken a swim while using a discovery and it's not always a good outcome so please again, use caution..TL
Exactly...and particularly when wearing waders (that fill up and take you down). PS) I've been fishing out of canoes for decades. Rule #1 is Never Stand Up unless it's absolutely necessary (mostly when getting in or out).
Definitely true bass can be shallow in winter, Ive caught decent bass in less than 5 feet of water ice fishing for trout! I was pretty surprised.. even on bigger lakes that are 60'+ deep, I think sometimes they school up and chase baitfish into the shoreline like trout and salmon do.
Just brought my canoe back from Maine to do some "slight modifications". Jon was putting the motor on the bow planned? Always a good time watching you vids.
Jon back at it again with another bangerooski

Go get one of those Garmin Striker 4. It can map the bottom for you and then you can use it for ice fishing that lake.
In Maine you need to register that canoe if you wanna put a motor on it. Wardens aren’t friendly when it comes to that

Same. I like fishing with friends, but solo is the best. In my opinion, if you don’t like fishing by yourself, you don’t truly like fishing.

You're the master of dropping videos that you filmed weeks ago. Its like Siberia in Vermont right now.
never been this early
Congratulations on the new rig. excited to see what 2022 holds in store brother. I been with you since 2014!!!
Best TH-cam ever teaches a lot of tips and post awesome content keep it up John
This is so sick! Being from NH, there is almost nowhere else I’d like to be than in my kayak in some random bog looking for bass. Truly epic

Every time a new vid pops up, I like it before I watch it! Thats how good these are! Great vid Jon!
When you’re fishing a relatively shallow, dark water pond, I throw a stik-o on a wacky rig hook and drop in to the bottom. Caught my in maine on it.

Love seeing videos like this. Just enjoying a day on a new body of water. So what if theres no lunkers, they're really just a bonus.
Throw some outriggers on that canoe and it becomes way more stable to stand up in. Minty for bass fishing.
stunning waterway. singing, Touch Myself by The Divinyls an Aussie rock group. nice.
