In this 2 part series I will show Ethan the step by process of making a Rob Roy styled sporran from start to finish. Join us in the shop as we layout the initial pattern on oil skin leather and cut the pieces to shape. This is an excellent beginner leatherworking project as it is quite simple and can be sewn by hand or with a sewing machine. In part 2 I will be adding a simple tooled leather border to the flap of the sporran and show you how to make some traditional leather tassels.
Do you want to learn how to craft leatherworking? Follow along with this DIY do-it-yourself how to make guide for how cut the pieces, punch holes, set rivets, and age and distress the metal. In this tutorial there will be tips and tricks for the beginner leatherworker so you can learn how to cut, stitch, finish the edge and install the hardware of your very own sporran.
I’m Levi Woods, an Armorsmith and artist working in Vancouver, British Columbia. I love creating new videos to share my shop creations with you. I love all fantasy, medieval and science fiction movies and especially love crafting arms and armour for costumes and props departments. Learned my trade as a saddle maker in mid 1980's.The old time saddler who taught me my trade asked me what I would like to make to keep myself as my first project, I already knew. A sporran to wear with my kilt. Wore it for years but during a house shift a few years back, it went missing and I have never located it. Thank you men for imparting your knowledge as I make another. I am gonna add a badge I have had for years to the front panel. St Andrew holding his Cross.

I am giving my furby to a friend for her to skin in order to use the internal animatronics to make a long-furby. I have been promised the pelt as compensation. This video has inspired me to fashion said furby pelt into a sporran
