    My mom is from Belle. She left there in 1959 for Washington, DC. We came back to visit my grandparents in Belle several times each year. Her dad died in March 1982, her mom in December 1988. This brought back lots of good memories.

    I've never heard Ku naw wha River pronounced the way you did, it's beautiful. You never know, a few generations ago maybe it was Can a wha. Cool.

    "Kanawha" is pronounced Kuh-naw-uh. Source: Lived here all my life. Fun fact: The area where the Ohio and Kanawha rivers meet is called Tu Endie Wei which translates as "point between two waters".

    You are pronouncing Kanawha WRONG.
    It's pronounced "Ka - nah - wha" NOT "Can - a - wa. The K is a hard K, not a C sound.
