At first, I thought you were saying the text was boring, but now that I've listened to it, I can see what you mean. This poor man is beating himself up so much, I lament what that particular sect of Christianity did to people's minds.

He beats himself with a bloody whip and keeps frequent all-night vigils during which his mind is plagued by frightening visions.

I don’t think it was humility cause he in fact got Hester pregnant it’s talking about his guilt
I think this tells more about society.. just because he is a clergyman they continue to glorify him after confessing

I know I’m pretty late, but Course Hero helps me out tremendously. They have summary videos for each chapter that are only a few minutes long.
