      If Diana’s ghost was going to appear to reassure anyone, wouldn’t it be the boys? Certainly not Charles just because he cried by her bed. For all he knew at the time, her death could have spelt the end of the monarchy. Probably should have.

    I am astounded how they found an actress that mirrors Diana's beauty, grace, voice, mannerisms, humanity, pain, joy, and everything so well! This actress deserves all the awards. It gave us all a little more of Diana... Bittersweet.

    In the season 2 episode "Dear Mrs. Kennedy" the Queen Mother says about Jackie, "she was unhappy, though." And then the Queen says, "that's the thing about unhappiness. All it takes is something worse to come along to make you realise perhaps it was happiness after all." That's the line I thought of during this episode.

      Exactly, cause she knows where she’s going, Charles cannot follow, at least not yet. During Charles’s coronation back in May, he sat there with such a look of “what am I doing here? I don’t belong here”, it was simply striking. After William kissed him, he looked at William like “he’s the only one who truly loves me.” William’s face was just the look of being forced to be there and not wanting to be there.

    This is a great scene, because it shows the vulnerability that Charles always kept hidden from Diana. As many have pointed out, she's not a ghost. She's just a memory that Charles uses to bounce off his emotions in a time of grief and sadness. We've all had internal dialogues in our lifetime. Dominic West and Elizabeth Debicki are absolutely fantastic. I was on board with them since day one and I'm glad this show perfectly highlights their amazing acting talent.

      I was wash in tears at that. I was there when her death happened and will never forget it or how the world seemed to come to a complete stop during that entire week leading up to her funeral. Charles did not treat her well all the time in life but he absolutely stepped up for her in death, even going against the Queen who felt she should have had a private family service rather than the funeral she ended up having. If only he hadn't nagged about her keeping her HRH status after the divorce...if only.

    She wasn’t a ghost. It’s a visual representation of the characters ‘speaking’ to Diana as they cope in their griefs. It’s similar to how Sherlock and John kept ‘seeing’ Mary in the BBC show after she died. It’s a great plot device deployed beautifully here.

    1:52 when her theme started playing here, the new season 6 version, it completely floored me man. Like I read somewhere that back in season 4, when her theme was first introduced (Fairytale) and the composer talked about how the voices represented Diana's cries for help and how the song has these little voices kinda fade away and the song is taken over by strings that represent the crown.
    In the season 5 version (gunpowder), when Diana's book came out, the voices were louder than the strings, which i guess signified Diana taking over and how she had chosen to tell her story.
    And here, in season 6, the voices aren't there anymore because she's gone- 😭

      what difference would it make if there were 'ghosts' in previous seasons lol. It's surrealism buddy. And the show has used it before. In season 2 Phillip literally saw his sisters plane crash and death.     I don’t think this was Diana’s ghost visiting Charles, but rather a memory of her that lived inside of Charles’ imagination, that he put up in front of him to be able to let go. Bargaining is one of the stages of grief. All of us who lost someone we loved have had these conversations with parts of our imaginations, just to cope with our loss. It’s great writing, this one.

    Diana *would* have said that to support him, but Charles already knew the truth. Diana's ghost isn't haunting him. That's something he had made his peace with. It's her memory that is stuck to him. He's not allowed to forget what he did. The regret will never pass, even if things got easier for him and Camilia over the years before he took the crown. He's had many, many years to make his peace with that he'll never escape it. He's had no choice but to.

    I like to think of these scenes not as ghosts appearing to the people still alive but rather the person's own inner conscious speaking to themselves. To me this isn't Diana's ghost but rather Charles own deep remembrance of how Diana was. The acknowledgement that he knew how much she loved him and that she also saw the good in him even if he couldn't see it himself. The same goes for Dodi's conversation with his father. His father knew he craved his acceptance and that he truly thought his father was never proud of him. The Queen's conversation with Diana is most striking as its not Diana nagging at her to adress the nation but rather her own conscious telling her to do so.
    As a side note I know this is all fictional depictions of real time events but I like to treat these characters the same way I would any fictional movie or tv character even though the people who they are portraying here never said or did any of the things we see them say or do in private.

    I know The Crown is fiction based on the backdrop of historical fact. What I have loved the most from this series is its ability to make the royal family human and that's not necessarily a bad thing. My favorite subject in school was history and I particularly loved British history with its long line of monarchs who have added an amazing history themselves intertwined with England.

    This was one of the most saddest weeks of my life. She visited my home town the day I was born. I loved her dearly and still do to this day but I can't seem to bring myself to watch this season. The actress nailed this role.

    That was a good scene. And she was not a ghost. When someone close to you passes dont you talk to him/her in your head? Think what he/she might have said? Giving them your personal goodbye...
    And Charles here did good. Even divorced, she was still mother of his children, mother of future king, and they've spent 15 years together, good and bad (can't say all of them were bad). And he did what was right.
    This scene brings tears to my eyes... They finally made amends. And I hope they really did in reality.

    I think it's way more likely that instead of it being Diana's Ghost, it's actually the *manifestation of Charles's crippling guilt and grief.*
    IRL hallucinations like this are created from the victim's psyches, based off of:
    -How the victim viewed the deceased, deep down.
    -The guilt or regrets that the victim has.
    What ""Diana"" says to Charles here, is all coming from Charles's mind. It's his mind desperately trying to cope, by making him hallucinate Diana as alive, as someone who still loved him, despite how awful he had been to her.
    He knows that if he hasn't been so cruel to her for so long, she would never have gotten into this situation, and everything leading up to it.
    "Everyone will be easier in the family now that I'm gone" is literally his guilt over how he treated and viewed her for so long, being vocalised to himself...By himself.
    The same also applies to Elizabeth's hallucination of Diana. It's nothing supernatural or religious, it's just a RL Psychological condition that someone can suffer from.

      I like to think that this happened in the plane whilst Charles is returning from paris with her "soul" on board...yes its not a ghost, it all happened in his mind, the "Last" conversation... King Charles may or may not love her but dosn't mean he stop caring for her... And maybe Diana loved him and STILL loved till death...just that he has other "Affair" (which is camila) its indeed a Bad time for everyone who knew Diana...

    I literally sobbed throughout the last 2 episodes so much it made my head hurt. I think Diana in this scene not only represents memories to help the characters grieve with the entire situation. But she’s also there to ensure the audience that though she left here so quickly, she is finally at peace now and it’s ok to let go. To those of us who loved Diana while she was here and to those of us who are just now starting to know her story. Diana wants us to never give up on doing what’s right for humanity. But to also show compassion to those who need it. The sad part about it is that this world has become so rude and cruel as of late. I fear Diana’s message is just being lost to history books. It even shows in this comment section.

    I don't think that's not her ghost. I just saw Elizabeth's interview, she said it's not like a ghost thing. Just a conversation he is having in his head. They are imaginations of conversations people have while grieving. It's sort of a vision or an imagination of a conversation you might have. She appears to represent that conversation you have in your head with someone who has just died.

    when I first heard there'd be a Diana ghost I thought it was a bit tasteless, but in the actual show it is handled very well and is an excellent way of communicating the emotions of the royal family and their regrets following Diana's death

    She is not being depicted as a ghost, that’s a huge and shallow misunderstanding. These “conversations” depict the person’s conscience trying to work through the loss and what it means to them. Charles and the Queen each had a unique relationship with Diana and what they talk about reflects that. Any of us who have lost a loved one, especially when there were things left unsaid have experienced these conversations in our minds and hearts.

    I think the Crown is painting Charles out to be too innocent and compassionate regarding Diana's death. I don't think he cared that much.

      He did care a lot. After their divorce, Charles and Diana became good friends and their relationship improved. After Diana's death was announced, Charles phoned the Queen to give Diana a royal funeral even though she was not HRH anymore. He cared for Diana, he just wasn't inlove with Diana.
      Charles went to Paris to take Diana's body back to England. He was in a state of disbelief, like in denial. He did cry but probably not as dramatic as portrayed in this scene. He's not really one to show public displays of sadness, neither is any royals. After the funeral, Charles spent a lot of time by himself, because he was grieving. But he still had to show composure in public and in front of his sons.

    Sceptical at first - hearing about the post death scenes she appears in - I was blown away by the scene here of her with Charles. It was the one scene that had me in tears and confirmed how fantastic Elizabeth Debicki was in the role. She captured something that is hard to describe but she was Diana. She did a wonderful job in what must of been a challenging part and I am happy to see that she won the Emmy last week. Well deserved indeed.

      Yes, it would, if the feelings were close to these that are shown in this scene. But, we cannot know. I personally choose to hope they are. She was a very attractive person. Very lovable. Unfortunately for her she got caught in the middle between Charles and Camila's relationship. What a shame.

    It is so unbearably sad that Charles cheated on Diana the entirety of their relationship. He shared things about Diana with Camilla that should have been solely between the two of them. She never had a chance! She was nothing more than the Royal family’s virgin sacrifice.

    It’s such a shame, the other Royals hated Diana because we all loved her more than them but it was never her fault, she didn’t make us love her we just all fell in love with such a bright shining light….which the Queen never understood, and Charles was so jealous of. Such a shame if they had just accepted her and embraced her.

    All during the coronation I thought - what if she would have been there, with the Crown, becoming Queen. It is something that will always be with me. She was one year older then I am. I grew up with her. And yes, she is still with me when I see them together.

    Man what a tough thing to watch. He was young in a royal family, everyone pressuring him to marry Diana. Young, 19, sweet, naive. He did not know what to do with this. It sucks. He sucked. But I pray he is a better person. As for Camila...she could've been a better person as well.

She had no money of her own except for what daddy might have put in his will. Kate was nothing but an ambitious socialite who held out for an increasingly desperate prince who had to marry someone sooner or later . Megan is annoying but at least she was somebody before she married Harry. Kate was just a gold digging nobody. Now she's the British version of a Kardashian.

    I know some didn’t appreciate the dreams, ghosts, and past selves of this season. But honestly, I found it to be a perfect tribute. It becomes almost Shakespearean and when you think about it, the last Elizabeth was around when Shakespeare was around, and with HM’s death a couple of years ago I think it good symbolism of her and tribute of the era passing into legend.

    The show runners must've been inspired by a similar scene from the (fictional) "King Charles III." The difference is that in the latter Diana's ghost visited Charles after he became king.

    Charles and Diana were legendary. Everything about them is utterly fascinating. It’s BIG. Their wedding was big, their marriage was big, their way of life was big, their two immediate royal princes, the way they fascinated the kingdom and the globe, their divorce, everything about them was Shakespearean. They are my favorites.

    I wish we truly could have a conversation like this with a recently departed loved one. A spirit or ghost a memory to let us talk one last time but to the person not just our memory of them from our own head. (Twice in a dream I had something similar from my own mind.)
    My great grandmother died and that night in a dream a younger version of her came to talk with me, Tell me how much she loved me, how I would go on always with her love around me. Sh3 showed me a photo frame of us two as young children looking identical but separated by 70 years and three generations.
    My best friend months after she died I dreamed of her as a ghost watching me check into a hotel and messing with the registration system computer so she could watch me longer. I went over to talk with her. I asked why she hadn’t visited sooner if she was still around. I told her her old cats were safe and loved in my home and heart. She was evasive

    This scene is fantastic and I shall now spend an enormous amount of time explaining why when I could be doing productive things.
    - the acting is, as ever, superb. The facial expressions and tone add extra meaning to the spoken words.
    - the writing is great. Even just the use of "ta-daa" elicits humour, a sense of Diana's character, and a cruel irony about her fate- it was entirely out of her control, and yet she will be praised and remembered for it.
    - the fact that Diana is essentially a figment of Charles's imagination here, so what she says, and Charles's response, actually informs us of his character more deeply. When she thanks him for being so raw at the hospital, he is FINALLY acknowledging to himself that all she ever wanted was his love, and he let her down by refusing to give it to her. When she says she loves him, that's him acknowledging her love was real. Throughout the show we see him accuse her of being manipulative and selfish, as a defense mechanism to protect his ego. He always knew deep down that she didn't deserve his shoddy treatment. But he was so pre-occupied by his own victimisation that he ignored hers. Here, he can finally admit this to himself. (I do believe he was a victim of an unwanted arranged marriage, but he took it out on her, rather than confronting the real perpetrators).
    - the fact that she offers him some of his old coping strategies, and he denies them. "It'll be easier for everyone, now that I'm gone" and "the regret will pass" are invitations to denial. But he consciously makes a choice to embrace the reality of his feelings at long last. It's like a conversation between his conscious and his subconscious mind. Fascinating stuff!
    THIS IS FICTION YOU KNOW AND YOU ARE DUMB TO ANALYSE IT AS IF IT IS REAL- we can, and should, analyse fiction. Odds are the real Prince Charles did not have a conversation with the ghost of Diana who may or may not be a reflection of his sub-conscious mind, okay? Okay ❤
