First of all, props for using the movie ending! I can't decide which ending is better, but I've never seen a play do the happy ending before. I liked the plant dancers shoving Seymour around, and that Audrey just runs in and hands him a bomb. But other than that.... so not everyone can be Levi Stubbs, but whoever voiced Audrey II didn't have the vocal power at the pitch he was singing at. And Seymour should have done more, like trying to axe the plant before a 'vine' grabs it from him or something.
Levi stubs is hard surpass. I thought the guy who was in the voice of Audrey 2 in that play production before he was in Disney prince and the frog way back in 2012 our 2013 did a decent job with the voice.
It’s amazing how well this footage holds up with how insanely old it is. This performance was put on at some point all the way back in the middle of 2007.at least.
There are two questions here... one of legality and one of artistic morality. On the first subject there can be no debate, to add or take away entire numbers without permission from either the author or the copyright holder is illegal and could lead to fines or the withdrawal of the contract. On the second subject, well that's a bit more nebulous. I personally would love to do a production that adds in the song for several reasons.
I'm not gonna say this is bad, but I will say I would have done a few things different. Actually, If I did do a play of Little shop of Horrors I would have made it a whole unique ending. That in spirit to the original ending of the movie... But anyways, For mean Green mother, I would have done this: 1. In the beginning, Not have the Audrey II-ettes come out all at once, but have them comes out from the shadows, as they do the "pushing back" bit like Audreydid in the movie, different though
i really like how they used mean green mother from outer space... i do hate how they make everyone live. But thats my opinion. In my school right now were adding this song but making it that audrey dies before the song and seymour dies at the end of this
I think I've been spoiled by Levi Stubbs' towering performance as Audrey II. This just wasn't the same... which, oddly enough, is also its greatest strength. Can't go wrong with making a performance your own, after all :)
There’s only one ending to the show. The film version from the 1980s had its own version and ending. But the licensed stage version does not offer this. Whatever production this was, they did this number illegally. This musical number is not offered as part of the stage version when you rent the rights to produce it. So your take on good versus bad is not really a thing.
wtf, i just finished a run of this show and yes we did the movie ending which i dont agree with and in this song seymour killled the plant but seriously there is no energy, our choreography was all partners and livley with lifts , spins and most importantley energy. we were in blakcs with masks and green braclets for leaves and the girls had a green vest on as the focus is the plant. im the last persson to cricies others as i know how much work goes into it all but the plants voice is boringwtf
umm it's sue darling, if WB was going to "sew his ass" they would need needle and thread as opposed to a legal team to do it. as for the song, I actually like it and am very surprised to see it in the stage version, it's just too bad that your audrey II can't sing it properly :-/
Aw geez, they used the happy ending for this? Though it was nice to feature the song in an off-broadway production, just make sure WB doesn't find out.
It's too bad this person only uploaded these three songs. They're good songs, but I would have liked to see more, especially Dentist and Suddenly Seymour.
i dont think this ending is very bad, i think it would be better if the plant was better singer and more convicing, but the show itself looks pretty good, i doing a production of this next year and i hope ours looks as good as this!
@stevemacirl Profit or no Profit is moot----Changing the Ending of the show changes the integrity of the Piece. Just because the movie was a done a certain way Most certainly does NOT make it canon. Nobody ever said anywhere that Alice in a blonde girl in a blue dress, yet because "thats how the movie did it" people seem to think she is. Seymore is not supposed to Literally get away with Murder, The show ended a certain way for a reason. Changing it because of the Movie is cowardly, at best.
WHY are all the dancing plants smiling?! They should look angry or something...to actually MAKE Seymour scared and the dance they do? This is not some cheery teenage eistedford - it's a song about taking over the world, destorying it and stuff...they needed to do more movement like they do at 3.50. THAT was ok. The rest was sort of like "Ok...we're doing this because it shows our dancing talent!"...chracterisation needs to be taken into account!
@stevemacirl at my high school they did little shop of horrors, the kid who played audrey 2 in my schools play could actually sing and sounded just like levi stubbs. this was just painful to watch,i mean really, the voices are god awful they keep screwing up the lyrics and it was choreographed horribly.
well, pretty much wut this tells me is u guys have a school filled with great stage crew people, but no actors, dancers, or singers. i mean the setting and stuff was good, but the back up dancers didint do so hot, Seymour didnt relle do anything, and Audrey II was too monotone and didnt relle add any character to the part......... damn that was longer than i thot
Not for nothing but this is SUCH a violation to what you agree to do when you produce a musical. NO ONE licences the movie music. The production itself looks good but its terrible when people deviate from script.
at 2:42 its supposed to be and you got me fightin' mad not your in trouble now. we had to delete this song from our production. but a girl played as audrey II and she rocked!
@stevemacirl The remake movie ending was actually reshot. They did shoot and ending in black were Seymour and Audrey died. But the test audience people said it was too depressing. So rather than risk the movie flopping they reshot it a month later for 2 million additional dollars. They had a lot of complications with that movie because the cage was non existent back then. Including when rick and levi sing there first song.
@stevemacirl After listening to this, I've noticed Audrey II's voice isn't as entertaining as I had hoped. In my opinion, it sounds more as if he's just going through the motions more than owning the part himself. Of course, I myself don't expect the person playing Audrey II's voice to sound like Levi Stubbs, but I feel he should have just had fun with the part for that song. As for koiboi, it's understandable to compare with the movie, but focus on interpretation more than comparison.
As much as I'm gonna give them credit for being kids here and going out there and giving a decent job for young performers Whoever was in charge of this production really needs to look at contracts before they do shows. When you rent Little Shop you're doing either the original off Broadway production or the 2003 Broadway production dependant on the licensing you obtain. Neither include MGM in the show or the happy ending, which kinda spoils the whole point of the show. Its a Faustian tale it needs to have a tragic ending. But you can't just change MTI (Music Theatre International - the rights holders) material without the risk of a heavy fine, you're supposed to be performing as written If you really wanna do MGM have it as an encore piece. Then you've completed the show as per contract and you're having a fun little after extension
dang i still wanted to see seymore get eaten, i thought that he was going to eventually in this song but oh well can't always get what I want. Still apreciate that this song is actually in a stage production of this, its too good a song not to put in
Ease up dudes! The song totally works in the context of the show with the original ending - watch the alternate/original movie ending with this song here on TH-cam. I hate it when Audrey/Seymour survive. It diminishes the drama/tragedy. Standing by and letting someone die is a crime. Seymour brings about his own demise because of human weakness, greed and desire. I had a real moral problem with the film. In the play, he makes the wrong decisions and loses everything. That's the point.
the octave lower thing would be just fine if it was consistent throughout the song, but they switched a few times in between. but you're right it fails to do justice to the song.
First of all, props for using the movie ending! I can't decide which ending is better, but I've never seen a play do the happy ending before. I liked the plant dancers shoving Seymour around, and that Audrey just runs in and hands him a bomb. That was a bomb? I thought it looked like a grenade.
Wow, I've never seen anyone use this ending and this song for the play!
OMG They used the movie ending! YESH! (I just hate sad endings... it makes me wanna cry so don't judge me -3-)
Our school did this just today. They did great, I wish they would upload it on TH-cam but I doubt they will.
the hero always win
Everything is perfect, but you hit a failiure point when Audrey II's voice had not just the wrong accent, but the meaning.
It’s amazing how well this footage holds up with how insanely old it is. This performance was put on at some point all the way back in the middle of 2007.at least.
TRUE

his voice is fucking hilarious!!!
will and mer i hold the phone jumares is ton dochu pe misa you got life go
this song wasnt in the play. and the sync is way off for audrey 2.
My school recently did this play, but it was more like the original musical version.
BOO!!!! the true ending is better
and i am baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad
that sucks its a good song.
They sang it wrong and the acting was horrible. Seymour didn’t just walk away then the plant died. Seymour blew her up
ROBLOXgamer2 did your mother never tell you that if you’ve nothing good to say, say nothing at all?
@@stevemacirl You just insulted like almost everyone in the world
@ROBLOXgamer2 I think you need to take remedial classes in English, your ability with comprehension is... bizarre!
What are you, British?
ROBLOXgamer2 what are you? Twelve?
baaaaaaaaaaad
I think I've been spoiled by Levi Stubbs' towering performance as Audrey II. This just wasn't the same... which, oddly enough, is also its greatest strength. Can't go wrong with making a performance your own, after all :)
Yes, I agree, Levi did sing it better. Actully, he was the first to sing M.G.M.F.O. May he rest in peace in Heaven.
How come this the ONLY Lsoh musical that I can find that has the good ending??? Mainly all the others have the bad ending.
Because the good ending isn't the real ending. Even the original version before it became a musical ends with everyone dying
I don't mind doing the movie ending...but I mind that they didn't do it well.
wtf, i just finished a run of this show and yes we did the movie ending which i dont agree with and in this song seymour killled the plant but seriously there is no energy, our choreography was all partners and livley with lifts , spins and most importantley energy. we were in blakcs with masks and green braclets for leaves and the girls had a green vest on as the focus is the plant. im the last persson to cricies others as i know how much work goes into it all but the plants voice is boringwtf
Goddamnit! It's "Mean green bad" Not fucking Mean and bad" Holy shit pay attenion to the source material.
umm it's sue darling, if WB was going to "sew his ass" they would need needle and thread as opposed to a legal team to do it.
as for the song, I actually like it and am very surprised to see it in the stage version, it's just too bad that your audrey II can't sing it properly :-/
Wow, it looks like someone who thought of this, wanted it to be a Happy Ending.
Interesting attempt. However, this song was written SPECIFICALLY for the MOVIE. and also, only ONE person can sing this song. LONG LIVE LEVI STUBBS!
Aw geez, they used the happy ending for this? Though it was nice to feature the song in an off-broadway production, just make sure WB doesn't find out.
wat this performance needed was more of a jazz organ piano and audrey II gotta put SOME soul in his voice. then it would've been perfect
It's too bad this person only uploaded these three songs. They're good songs, but I would have liked to see more, especially Dentist and Suddenly Seymour.
Sorry ude, the Setmour was okay, but the Audrey II was bad.
set props and costumes are awsome! but the music sucks
Little shop isn't really a dance show
i dont think this ending is very bad, i think it would be better if the plant was better singer and more convicing, but the show itself looks pretty good, i doing a production of this next year and i hope ours looks as good as this!
whatever happened to audrey II singing up the octave? lacks energy, sounds too robotic and not growly/R&B enough. sucks.
I love it that's just like the movie.
It's so censored for no reason
@stevemacirl Profit or no Profit is moot----Changing the Ending of the show changes the integrity of the Piece. Just because the movie was a done a certain way Most certainly does NOT make it canon. I'm glad they used the movie ending myself. And what pray tell is MTI?
Is there a reason why the theatre Audrey II's lack spunk?? Like is the singer also doing the puppetry?
well, pretty much wut this tells me is u guys have a school filled with great stage crew people, but no actors, dancers, or singers. i mean the setting and stuff was good, but the back up dancers didint do so hot, Seymour didnt relle do anything, and Audrey II was too monotone and didnt relle add any character to the part......... damn that was longer than i thot
Pretty sad...and bad.
Not for nothing but this is SUCH a violation to what you agree to do when you produce a musical. NO ONE licences the movie music. The production itself looks good but its terrible when people deviate from script.
So what version of the broadway is this? I like to see the full version
they did the "happy" movie ending lol, but we are doing the "sad" ending
I think that it would be neat to see Mean Green Mother incorperated with the stage ending and the singers were actually good.
MTI stands for Music Theatre International and it's a company that provides music and information on plays and musicals.
at 2:42 its supposed to be and you got me fightin' mad not your in trouble now. we had to delete this song from our production. but a girl played as audrey II and she rocked!
this song wasn't written for the stage show, and every time i see people try and do it on stage, it just doesn't work.
@stevemacirl
The remake movie ending was actually reshot. They did shoot and ending in black were Seymour and Audrey died. But the test audience people said it was too depressing. oh, and the little green unitard clad chrous TOTALLY ruins this btw.

You guys complain. Terribly. Grow up. I personally like Seymour. :D
Terrific!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh dear... im sorry but this is bad!! dull boring and monotone!!
Somebody go back to 2007 and tell Audrey II he's supposed to be singing, not loudly talking.
@ExclusiveCheese
I concur. Movie ending Sucks.
i thought it was ok, i acctually think the orchestration let it down, not the actual performers.
this version sucks,
the movie one is much better.
I love the puppet it's so realistic!
did you use the film script coz in the stage verson audrey dies!
clip the pant clip the ich will do my shit
no offense but levi stubbs did it right
this is kinda bad.....yeah really bad...
That performance of the song sucked.
wow, terrible acting....
I am baddd haaaaa. O shit boom.
As much as I'm gonna give them credit for being kids here and going out there and giving a decent job for young performers

I can't tell, but did Seymour kill Audrey 2 in this play with a grenade? In the movie it was a live cable wire he used.
Yes
@CGKPRocks yeh but i wasnt in it. but even if i wuz id just be in the background. lol
How were you able to do this? Aren't you supposed to do "Don't Feed The Plants"? or did your school just arrange this number themselves and put it in?
@stevemacirl
they had to shot it at two different speed. morranis was slower then levi they made it look like they were even with editing tricks.
dang i still wanted to see seymore get eaten, i thought that he was going to eventually in this song but oh well can't always get what I want. Still apreciate that this song is actually in a stage production of this, its too good a song not to put in
All they would of needed was a electrick and bass guitar and it would have sounded better
Why was the, "Ohhh shit!" at the end the strongest delivery? lol
I WANT TENTACLES!!!! NOT DANCERS!!!! THEY'RE NOT EVEN SCARY!!!
I think they're either supposed to be vines or the little Audrey IIs

nope
