    OK so, I start a job. Show my boss how incredibly time consuming the data gathering and cleaning is. Then, when my boss has left me alone, I develop a power query, get the task done in seconds, and spend the rest of the time my boss thinks I'm working on the data watching more of your TH-cam videos. Sounds good 👍

  • @charlesbyrne71

    As a programmer I needed this functionality years ago. We get data sources from everywhere, CSV, Json, Mainframes. And yes we would have to spend most of our time building throwaway scripts, VBA macros, DTSX packages, SQL loaders, etc to get the data to load into spreadsheets, databases. I went back to a conversion I did a few years back that took me a 2-3 days of importing data, writing excel formulas, cleaning fields, normalizing data, converting to text for insert into sql server then running scripts to find orphans and duplicates, etc.
    With the instructions and documentation I had I was able to do almost all of the tasks on a 30 minute lunch break. Yes I had the benefit of having previously known what is needed, but it takes put the complexity and number of steps. Power query does tend to choke on large sets of data, but for smaller counts under 80K it is worthwhile. It's nice to have another tool. Hopefully Microsoft won't abandon the feature in the future.

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Wow, this is an amazing feature and explained so well. I used to spend about 2-3 days a week manually manipulating and purifying data then sorting and putting it into a readable format… now after watching this, it took me a couple of hours to create a Power Query that auto sorts and produces much better data by just putting the new report in the specified location and then refreshing. 😳 just gave me back half a week a month and some great recognition from the boss for the implementation of an innovative solution. 👍😃

    Mynda, fantastic tutorial - I'm new to PowerQuery and it is truly amazing. Just a couple of questions please:
    - In the data - I find another Order Priority (Not Specified - 1672 rows?), should this data not be shown in the pivot table or did I miss something?
    - Is there a way in PowerQuery to automatically sequence the Order Priority columns e.g. Low, Medium, High, Critical?

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Cordula, Great to hear you enjoyed my tutorial :-)
      In my PivotTable there isn't any 'not specified' order priority, so I'm not sure where you're seeing this.
      You can manually sort the order priority columns by left clicking and dragging the headers in the PivotTable.
      If you have further questions, please post them and your sample Excel file on our forum where we can help you further: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/excel-forum

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to load to a PivotTable to load the data to the Pivot cache. Then you can copy the first PivotTable and modify as required. Alternatively, if you load it to the data model you just load as connection only and 'add to data model'.

    I don't know if you have it already, but a video on how to deal with source files having changed column order or names, or even new or deleted columns would be cool. As it is now, I keep having to manually rebuild (as I load them as tables, to then run custom columns against)

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, it's not that straight forward because the subsequent transformations will be referring to these columns, so how you handle those is where it gets messy and really needs to be dealt with on a case by case basis, rather than one solution fits all.

    Your tutorials are extremely easy to follow, yesterday i created my first dashboard with help of your tutorial on Dashboards and I really felt happy and my work has really got reduced to 90% where i have to make MIS report for every month and it would have took me almost a day to get, cleaning, and adjusting the data. KUDOS MAM : - )

    I just fell in love with Power Query!
    Just a week ago, I created a VBA macro just to import add pivot tables and graph a voluminous warranty database that used to take a lot of my time each month. Thanks a lot, Mynda! Really helpful!
    I also want to remark that you own an engaging voice and teaching style, key to captivating your audience.
