      Certain sections of Tarmon Gaidan that I won't disclose because of spoilers. Spoilers:
      When everything seems lost and Mat gathers the remaining forces of the lands. They make a point to say that borders don't seem to matter anymore and they go for an all out attack. Or when Lan rides towards Demandred and the Two Rivers men clear his path with their insane archery abilities

    One extra detail I really like about the sequence of events leading up to Rand's capture is that the Aes Sedai have been purposely doing intensive channeling every day since their arrival in Cairhien. This meant nobody would question the intensive channeling required to maintain Rand's shield. I love how RJ thinks of these plot holes and finds a way to close them. The battle itself is definitely one of my favourite moments in the series.

      Dumai's Wells is my favorite sequence in the entire WoT series, and is the sole reason Lord of Chaos is my favorite (and most frequently re-read) entry in the series. I can't even really articulate why (at least not off the top of my head), there's just something incredibly satisfying about it.

      Yeah I noticed this as well especially after we get a short POV from Sorilea after Rand is captured and is walking past the palace they were keeping him in. She comments on feeling them channel strongly but doesn’t find it weird since they’ve been doing it since they arrived.

    I love how, until this point, I took the lack of using the One Power as a direct weapon for granted. It didn't seem like a big deal in a fantasy setting for the Aes Sedai to have such an aversion to it. But once the Asha'man are unleashed it gave me chills. RJ showed just how horrifying the Power could truly be and exactly why everyone was terrified of channelers.

    When the show airs, they need to get these battles done correctly. We cannot afford half measures. I have a feeling the ability of RJ to write these scenes has got to be screenplay gold. No need to mess with it.

    • @jamesr123
      @jamesr123 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The problem with adapting such a scene is the budgetary constraints. Rendering this battle accurately, despite its relatively small scale compared to some others, would probably use up the vast majority of the show's budget for the season it airs. Or it will look cheap, which is its own problem.

    • @TheHippyProductions
      @TheHippyProductions 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I think the issue is making it live-action to begin with. This isnt Lord of the Rings you cant just have a journey in some beautiful locations and occasional grand sets and battles. There are entire nations at work in Wheel of Time, and the scale is too massive to do properly IRL. Not to mention Amazon will probably force feed some political agenda or some garbage instead of focusing on the source material. It needs to be animated, plain and simple.

    • @jusatin
      @jusatin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The bigger problem will be that if these battles are done correctly, the show will be hard M/A. If they don’t show people getting ripped to pieces, absolutely destroyed to atoms with guts and blood flowing and no way of hiding or making it stop, it doesn’t really give a sense of why the Shaido ran. That kind of helplessness and brutality is not often seen in any major TV adaptations, since it turns off viewers. It’s a lot different to see it happen to “real” humans, than to just read about it.

    • @snarfmcgillicutty2616
      @snarfmcgillicutty2616 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jusatin You have a point, but I'm hoping Amazon will make this mature. I think we have a good chance of that considering we have been told there will be nudity and probably sex. We have a chance they will do the battles some justice. Granted, what you say is valid and concerning. Hopefully the budget will remain high and grow as needed.

    I can't really add more to that but it was very satisfying to see the power of the Asha'man as well as seeing so many of the Aes Sedai I being humbled.
    For too long the Aes sedai had sat at the top of the pecking order. Their arrogance was insufferable it was time for them to know fear.
    If the Asha'man had wanted to that they could have destroyed the entire White tower by simply traveling there and collapsing it in an earthquake.

      @@greenzorse There are a few departures from book descriptions, but those have been mostly within reason. Also, you haven't paid enough attention to details in the books. Neither did I, even after over a dozen reads of the series. I have been surprised by the details pointed out since and have verified them in subsequent readings (listenings, mostly). Do you recall that Cenn Buie was described as "dark as an old root?" I don't think they're talking freshly sawed pine there. That's only one of many I missed. See Daniel's video where he and Matt from The Dusty Wheel address the racial concerns. It's no B.S. and a real eye opener with great perspective and details many didn't catch.
      Further, I will trade having actors in roles who don't fit my ideas of canon if they were the best possible fit for those characters otherwise. I'd rather have it done right than end up with another Shannara mess with very attractive people but a poorly done series.

The wheel weaves as the wheel wills.

    I love how often this battle is referenced throughout pretty much the rest of the series. Among other things, it did indeed give Rand--and Lews Therin--a mental beatdown (i.e. THE BOX). Also, that time when Rand and Lews Therin worked together to break out of that box... Priceless.

    Fantastically entertaining content. I also read his series a couple of decades ago and really liked it. I slogged through several of the middle books when I was sure Robert Jordan had lost his mind and was thrilled when Brandon Sanderson completed the series in such high fashion. I was sorry for each of his books to end and loved how he tied up story lines and climaxed at the last battle. You are doing great work. Hope you don't burn out. Good luck.

    This whole battle is done beautifully and it is probably one of the most intense battles in fantasy.
    As a side, something I thought about while watching this was how cool it would be if Rand was forced to defend himself against the Shaido alongside the Tower Aes Sedai. Rand being Rand, I do not think this would have happened with the amount of torture he was put through, but let's say he was simply captured. No torture. Let's also say that Perrin's force and the Ashaman do not show up for a while yet. The Shaido still turn, and the Aes Sedai are on the ropes, being heavily bombarded and surrounded. The Aes Sedai, having no other choice and knowing how powerful a full circle is with the Dragon at its core, decide to persuade Rand to aid them in their desperate fight. Rand is of course not happy at all with the situation, and could decide not to help, but is already aware of the Shaido and their intentions with him. He also knows that these Aes Sedai would be indebted to him for saving them, and that he could possibly get the upper hand and escape during the chaos. So Rand joins a full circle of Aes Sedai, on the condition he be given control of the circle, presumably to avoid issues with the Oaths. With some Taveren persuasion, the Aes Sedai agree, and Rand starts to DECIMATE the Shaido force. With twenty odd supporting Aes Sedia outside the circle to offer defense and to swap out with tired sisters, and possibly an angreal at his disposal, Rand is unstoppable. When Perrin's force finally arrives at the battle, they find a crippled Shaido army being beaten back by the most powerful channeling his Wise Ones have ever seen. Along with Perrin's help, and maybe still the Ashaman, they push the Shaido into retreat. Everyone is incredibly impressed at Rand having taken control of the situation. Rand is pissed at the Aes Sedai for taking him prisoner and takes them prisoner in return, ending the battle in basically the same way, with the Aes Sedai swearing fealty.
    I do not know why I felt the need to write an alternate version of this. Just popped in my head while watching and wanted to share. lol

    Corrections: Berelain didn't lead her warriors, she stayed behind.
    IT WAS 1000 WOLVES! Not 100. This was huge for me. Picturing 1000 wolves running into battle is so metal, and is a large reason why I love this battle. It is up there with The Battle of Five Armies for me.
    Edit: I hope this didn't sound condescending. You have forgotten more about wheel of time than I currently know. I just picked these out because I just finished the chapter for the third time today before watching this.

    I am going to nitpick a little bit. 1- Rand Killed two warders with his bare hands, both belonged to the same Sister. 2-Galina was head of the party and she had all the sisters taking terns beating Rand after the one with the dead warders refused to do it any more, Galina was also black Aja(man my spelling sucks).
    This battle sunk Rand into deeper madness and I believe is when he first started hearing Lews voice in his head, it massively added to Rand's distrust of the sisters-also key to point out that Morraine is out of the picture at this time so he had no voice he trusted from the sisters.
    Alanna was bonded to Rand and could feel his beatings
    Egwene used this to sew seeds against Elaida while she was a guest of the tower and was one of the strongest reasons for her gaining support to heal the tower.
    The Ashaman are awesome
    Good video-could you do the battle where Perrin ends up getting the Children of the Light to fight under his banner?

      Nope, Rand began hearing Lews Therin in his head from book 5, and it became a much more regular thing throughout book 6, it increased during Dumai's Wells only because he was surrounded by Aes Sedai.
      Rand didn't kill 2 warders with his bare hands, he killed one and used that warders sword to kill the second.
      Rand didn't exactly trust Moiraine. Not until she kinda became his bitch in book 5 because she was scared she was going to die before she could sufficiently help him.
      Also, watch the spoilers for the Egwene bit. This video is only for spoilers until the end of book 6.
