Let us not forget that Black was still inside the room (lying on the floor after being shot, which made everyone think he was dead, but he wasn't). He did not break any rule and still he did not win. Blonde did. Because she found out WHO to answer. Excellent movie.
While the idea of this movie is pretty good, I think they could have come up with a MUCH interesting ending/question/answer!! Really disappointing ending to the movie.

I thought that two and two years after this ill tell you what i think after 30 min after i finished the movie, if someone said NO that one would have been desqualified because they couldnt talk to the guard or the interview guy it had to be answered to the CEO, thats what i think thats why no one answered yes or no when he said it first, maybe thinking it was a trap cause they werent alowed to talk to him , if they said yes that would be the wrong answer to the wrong person.

She turned in the sheet and gave her answer. She could have been disqualified for asking questions after she said it was over because her first answer to the question, "Any questions?" was "no". Asking questions after that is giving a second answer "yes" to the "Only Question". The exam started before the timer was set, who is to say it ended when the timer stopped? The timer was set for 80 minutes to "convince them they had what it takes," nothing about when to answer was mentioned. I like how when they are talking about the job description they say, "The deal was no questions asked."

Man, I would have won this game I noticed the guy hinting at his glass and something about the glass but I would have screwed up with answering 1. or knowing the answer ahead of time before the 80 minutes were up not knowing how to turn in the paper assuming you fail the test after the 80-minute mark. Also, the guys who were tieing people up hitting people trying to kill each other are complete psychopaths, the woman with the glasses was smart to walk out, I wouldn't wanna work for a company like that, the smart woman who walked out the psychologist/ student, is the true winner to me.
She didn't decide to walk out. She was thrown outside because she talked to the guard, asking for help because of White's health state, so breaking the rules because of communicating with the guard. But yeah, I as well thought that in the end she would be the winner because she seemed the smartest out of all of them. I was shocked when she had to leave so early in the movie. I never thought that Blonde would win. I mean, nothing against her, but she was the most quiet out of all of them. That does not mean she's not capable, but you could just not really assess her
I saw the movie today and there's just one thing which bothers me about the movie. They could remember everything the invigilator said to them except *Any Questions*. I know it's the main plot of the movie and it was quite interesting but still remembering everything except the last line said by the invigilator (which had a question kinda tone to it) seems wrong to me.
too add to that on Exam's IMDB page there is a thread where the OP depicts every sentence of what he says and the different meanings and how they all result in the question being flawed. Such as the "The question is before you" -- Being said before the actual question(Stated by the movie) any questions- Also by asking Any questions, the answer would be 1 + other questions asked while the test was ongoing. Also yeh obvious flaw "If you choose to communicate....." that includes the answer.
I was not confused by the ending, and I really enjoyed the premise of the movie. But I have to say that most of the movie was bullshit. They wasted so much time smashing three different sets of lights, activating sprinkler and ect and at the end of it all these had nothing to do with the movie at all. It almost felt like they were cheating the audience in order to extend the length of the film, but thats just my opinion. I enjoyed it, cool premise but it could have been better imo

The paper was spoiled, but he wasn't spoiling his own. They basically figured out earlier that you can spoil others' papers as testing grounds and Brown was using her paper, not his own.
All 8 papers were hydrophobics (waterproof.) When the candidates activated the fire sprinkles, the papers got totally soaked and still none was disqualified. If water didn't spoil the papers, then blood wouldn't do it either.

It's human behavior when the instructor ask "is there any questions" at that time they didn't have any question "because they thought there were actually questions in the other side of The pager. And they could have said no when is asked "is there any questions" however when people don't have questions at that moment they just don't say anything
That was a very risky selection process as anyone could have answered "no" right after the invigilator asked the question, ruining the whole thing. Because this is a movie, no one did that, but it is not a very convincing script.
It seems you didn't get it dear :) If they directly answered "No" to the invigilator, they'd be immediately disqualified since technically it was talking to them. But yeah if they said "No" to 'deaf' then they'd have won. But no-one in real life will just tell a random candidate the answer of a question, asked by someone else.

I think this film was ruined by the fact that the timer was adjusted apparently by Deaf before leaving the room. The plot is just too manipulative to ensure that White loses.
She really did give the only correct answer. We may interpret "Are there any questions?" as "Do you have any questions about the instructions?" But in reality, it actually was "Are there any questions on this exam". The answer is no, there are no questions on the exam (even though Question 1 is embossed in tiny print, there actually is no question afterward". So no is the only correct answer.
No you are wrong because the test didn't even start yet. They could've answered No. But typically human beings, when they don't have questions they will stay silent, especially if everyone else is silent. That's just my interpretation. Good movie, but one problem I see. At the end, they mention "compassion" as a quality they wanted in the winner. So, that means that even if White or Brown HAD won, they wouldn't pick them for the job. And, i believe cuts on Dark's legs showed she was a "cutter", so hard to believe they'd think she was stable enough for job. And, btw, when they were trying to get the pill out of the grate, who didn't think someone would at least ASK Brown, the guy chewing gum (who stole the pill) , to give them the gum so that the woman could hold it between her fingers and see if pill would stick to it, allowing her to get pill out? And, btw, we should have guessed that, at the end, the "Blonde" gets the job. lol. Then again, at least it wasn't the White, the white male....
What if someone had a genuine question? "There is only one answer" -- However the first question could be answered with a question. This ending piece of "Cleverness" is fundamentally just silly bullshit used to catch people out. Such things you get in moron tests ._. Remember those. You could have known what was going to happen so your choice not to protect it does its part in the ultimate spoiling of the paper. You're doing part in spoiling it with your passive behaviour. However, if you are from the train of thought that spoiling something must always be an active behaviour then the woman (brunette?) who was tricked by white into burned her own paper would have been disqualified anyway because of the laws of causuality. However I find it logical to not see wetting your paper as spoiling it since it doesn't alter it beyond restoration. Yes it is in a different form at least momentarily but you could dry it so that it returns to its original state.

If someone said yes and got disqualified, that would ruin the whole movie and the ending of the answer being "no". Plus in the rules he explained nobody could "communicate" (which asking any questions would be communicating). Lol. Very confusing at first but perfect when you think about it. So, the term "any questions" referred to if there were any questions on the paper. Which couldn't be answered till the time ran out. Hence the answer... "no". Cause there were no questions on the paper. He wasn't asking the individual's if they had questions. But rather, was there a question on the paper.

@J91122 I don't think that would be an attempt to communicate with him. But rather answering "The Question" hence solving the hidden meaning of the rules and winning. There would be no attempt at talking. It would not be a conversation just the factual answer. That's what I believe anyway. :) Then again they could have just wrote "No" on the paper.

I don't think its possible to explain away a plot that was never designed to have an ending which filled in the gaps. (the question that was added in the final stages of the film due to editing)
Tbh the moment his glasses hit the floor i knew that was a big part but im still confused as to how it was won when she was out of the room . Even if a foot was in he said if you leave the room . Keeping a foot in would be like being on homebase in a game of tag . Idk im just confused lol

Why would someone have been disqualified for saying "no" at the start of the movie when the question was first asked?? The timer was not set so they could have spoken to the invigilator!! They could have just answered him with a simple "no", not even thinking about it and won the job!! SOMEBODY EXPLAIN!?!?!

That was a very risky selection process as anyone could have answered "no" right after the invigilator asked the question, ruining the whole thing. Because this is a movie, no one did that, but it is not a very convincing script.

If they directly answered "No" to the invigilator, they'd be immediately disqualified since technically it was talking to them.
But yeah if they said "No" to 'deaf' then they'd have won. But no-one in real life will just tell a random candidate the answer of a question, asked by someone else.

I think this film was ruined by the fact that the timer was adjusted apparently by Deaf before leaving the room. The plot is just too manipulative to ensure that White loses.

She really did give the only correct answer. We may interpret "Are there any questions?" as "Do you have any questions about the instructions?" But in reality, it actually was "Are there any questions on this exam". The answer is no, there are no questions on the exam (even though Question 1 is embossed in tiny print, there actually is no question afterward". So no is the only correct answer.

They could've answered No. But typically human beings, when they don't have questions they will stay silent, especially if everyone else is silent. That's just my interpretation. Good movie, but one problem I see. At the end, they mention "compassion" as a quality they wanted in the winner. So, that means that even if White or Brown HAD won, they wouldn't pick them for the job. And, i believe cuts on Dark's legs showed she was a "cutter", so hard to believe they'd think she was stable enough for job.
And, btw, when they were trying to get the pill out of the grate, who didn't think someone would at least ASK Brown, the guy chewing gum (who stole the pill) , to give them the gum so that the woman could hold it between her fingers and see if pill would stick to it, allowing her to get pill out?
And, btw, we should have guessed that, at the end, the "Blonde" gets the job. lol. Then again, at least it wasn't the White, the white male....

What if someone had a genuine question? "There is only one answer" -- However the first question could be answered with a question. This ending piece of "Cleverness" is fundamentally just silly bullshit used to catch people out. Such things you get in moron tests ._. Remember those. Then using this silly approach as the main plot theme backlog for a movie. Simply question 1 saying if you read this kick the guard; would be better than what it was. In my opinion anyway.
It's not about whether the contestants had a question. It's about whether there's a question on the paper. "Any questions" had a double meaning; that's what they had to figure out. And then they had to figure out the answer.

No, they each swapped with another person, technically spoiling someone else's paper.
no leaving your paper somewhere else (or with someone else) to let it be spoiled by circumstances that you could have prevented (spoiling it by mistake) most logically should still be interpreted as spoiling it by extend. You could have known what was going to happen so your choice not to protect it does its part in the ultimate spoiling of the paper. You're doing part in spoiling it with your passive behaviour.
However, if you are from the train of thought that spoiling something must always be an active behaviour then the woman (brunette?) who was tricked by white into burned her own paper would have been disqualified anyway because of the laws of causuality.
However I find it logical to not see wetting your paper as spoiling it since it doesn't alter it beyond restoration. Yes it is in a different form at least momentarily but you could dry it so that it returns to its original state.

the answer is "NO" but even saying "NO" is communicating with invigilator and will lead to disqualification as per the rules..writing "NO" on the paper was the answer...Director missed a simple Logic.....anyways good thought provoking movie which needed better climax.
"If you spoil you're paper intentionally or accidentally, you will be disqualified." So you can't win until the time reaches 0.00
the invigilator at the time he asked was in the room and the period of exam did not start yet. in this case, the ending does make sense.
