Maybe a minority opinion: I love Veedon Fleece. It doesn't displace any of MY top three (Astral Weeks, Moondance, Tupelo Honey) but it does loom large in my Van Morrison GOATs, for sure...
Loving this video..Saint Dominic’s Preview is my number two..my number one is Astral Weeks...thanks for the shoutout...I saw Van in 1968 when he toured Astral Weeks..I really like the recent album he did with Joey DeFracesco.. great jazz album...great video Sam👍👍❤️❤️Glen
I keep forgetting you saw the Astral Weeks tour, would love to see him again, I saw him outdoors and the sound wasn't great, need a club show. Take care my friend.
Hi Sam. I was waiting to watch your video until after Glen and I did our video. I'm lucky enough to have all his albums except for Greatest Hits which I didn't think I needed. I really like Three Chords and The Truth and think it is his best latter day album. Enjoyed your list. Astral Weeks is my favorite Van album and my all-time favorite album. 1. Astral Weeks 2. Veedon Fleece. 3. St. Dominic's Preview 4. Moondance 5. Into The Music 6. No Guru, No Method, No Teacher 7. Magic Time 8. His Band And The Street Choir 9. The Healing Game 10. Hymns To The Silence. Can't wait for his new album. Great video. Take care. --Randy
I really enjoyed your video, I'm saving the second half of it for my lunch break tomorrow. I don't have Veedon Fleece but would love that. Beautiful Vision is incredibly underrated, love every song. Hymns to the Silence had to be purchased through Ebay, most of his stuff is out of print. Thanks for watching Randall !
Enjoyed that rundown. Have you heard “Enlightenment” or “Poetic Champions Compose”? I think the other one that you have to listen to if you haven’t yet: “No Guru, No Method, No Teacher” Van is the man!!
Maybe these are among the music of his you may not have encountered yet ? On the other hand , you might , as you know Brown Eyed Girl ... Lonely Sad Eyes ... TB Sheets .. Fridays Child ... Here Comes the Night : all early work before Astral Weeks. Streets of Arklow ... You Don't Pull No Punches But You Don't Push The River ... both from Veedon Fleece. Along With the whole of Astral Weeks (of course) & St Doms Preview ... .. my favourite Van songs.
Hi, well done, i enjoyed your video, i've been listening Van morrison since 1984, i've got 15/16 of his vinyl plus CD's, my top 10 would be as follow at moment, i could change at the top as it has already changed in the past 1) Astral weeks (pure genius) 2) Moondance ( it is the one i've listened to the most) 3) Veedon Fleece 4) St Dominic preview 5) Tupelo Honey 6) Common one 7) it's too late to stop now 8) no method, no guru, no teacher 9) into the music ( was much higher before, 3rd or 4th) 10) his band and the strret choir ( underrated, it could be higher) PS: hard nose the highway could sneak in soon
Hi Sam .. glen kellaway mentioned you on one of his videos .. I’m a van fan too .. I look forward to more videos from you .. best wishes I’m rob from Manchester 🇬🇧👍
Greetings Rob! Glen is a great guy, I'm hoping to make a video or two with him at some point in the future. So cool to have a fellow Van fan viewing my videos. Thanks so much for subscribing, take care my friend!
Sweet list! I recommend Common One and Veedon Fleece if you haven't listened to them already. As of now, these are my favorite Van albums. Oh, and this list goes to 11! Cheers 11. Hard Nose the Highway 10. Hymns to the Silence 9. Poetic Champions Compose 8. Into the Music 7. A Sense of Wonder 6. Beautiful Vision 5. Veedon Fleece 4. Wavelength 3. Astral Weeks 2. Common One 1. St. Dominic's Preview
Yeah, Common One does take quite a few listens to warm up to, but is worth the effort. Also, as a side note, I agree with you that the version of "Caravan" in The Last Waltz is the best version of the song. Such an outstanding performance from Van The Man and The Band
I enjoyed your video. It's good to know there are some younger Van Morrison fans in this world! It was also good to see that Hymns to the Silence and Avalon Sunset are in your top 10. In my opinion, those are two of his finest albums. (As an aside, it hardly seems possible that Hymns to the Silence is now a 30-year-old album! I got it for Christmas from my mother-in-law in 1991!) Much of my favorite VM music comes from his "spiritual search" period of 1979 to 1991, but he also released many great albums both before and after that time. If you haven't heard them yet, I urge you to check out a few of my other VM favorites (in no particular order): 1. No Guru No Method No Teacher (1986); 2. Common One (1980); 3. Veedon Fleece (1974); 4. The Healing Game (1997); 5. Down the Road (2002).
Hey Michael, welcome to my channel! I seem to draw Van fans haha, though I'm not complaining! I love the Healing Game and Common One, the reissue of the former is fantastic!
Many thanks for your list, which I really enjoyed..👍..here’s mine.. 01 Astral Weeks 02 Veedon Fleece 03 No Method, No Guru, No Teacher 04 Common One 05 Poetic Champions Compose 06 Hymns to the Silence 07 Inarticulate Speech of the Heart 08 It’s Too Late to Stop Now 09 St Dominic’s Preview 10 Into the Music
Hi! Nice to see another young Van-fan getting deep into the catalogue. :) I like your list, even though mine would look different. So, I have had the time to listen to all of his albums, and I own most of them on either vinyl or CD, many of them on both. I started listening to Van in 2010 and at that time many of them were available on CD through a recent reissue campaign that unfortunately got cancelled before it was finalized. Anyway, I could at that time order most of his CDs for a good price. The music of Van means a lot to me. Astral Weeks was the album that I first heard, and it completely blew my mind. My favorite Van-music is the free-form stream of consciousness material, even though I love his versatility. This would be my current attempt of a Van top ten even though it is far from easy: 1. Astral Weeks (also happens to be my favorite album by any artist), 2. Veedon Fleece (the one most similar to Astral Weeks, but it also has its own unique feeling). 3. No Guru, No Method, No teacher (transcendental album), 4. Common One (he really pushes the boundaries on this one). 5. Saint Dominic's Preview. 6. Hard Nose the Highway. 7.Moondance. 8. Hymns to the silence. 9. Inarticulate speech of the heart. 10. Keep me singing (I agree thet Three chords is great, but for me this his best latter-day album). Honorable mentions: The Healing Game, Beautiful Vision, Magic Time.
Hey Gustav, thanks for tuning in! I'm not one to judge any Van list haha, I'm definitely very, very into Astral Weeks, and Tupelo Honey. Hope you stick around and I thank you again for swinging by!
Really appreciate this video. Always interesting to see people's favorites. I couldn't do a top 10 yet because I don't have 10 Van records yet. Really cool to hear your input on these.
@@samstjohn1994 I'm sure you are right. Wavelength is on it's way as we speak. As of now I have four of his records and really like every one of them. Totally in a Van Morrison phase right now, hearing a lot of good things about a somewhat rare one Veedon Fleece as well.
