A classic. This might be my favorite tony hawk game simply because of the memories. My cousin used to bring this over with his Xbox and we’d play for days.
Love that. Having that cousin or friend with great games you don’t have was the best part about gaming as a kid tbh.
And the bmx bikeeee
Used to pull all-nighters to this game. To be young again. Nowadays, I can't even imagine voluntarily losing sleep just to play a video game. Games were better when they didn't rely on the internet.
Wow. I used to take my Xbox to my cousin’s and do the same thing. We might be related.
Same more memories with this than anything else
I remember seeing commercials on TV for American Wasteland that were advertising the game as revolutionary for not having any loading screens. I got the game and realized that the loading screens were just hidden by making you skate from one area to another! You can also fast travel with a couple of vehicles in the game, and those were essentially a hidden loading screen as well. I have many fond memories playing this game, thanks for the video!
Haha that’s cool that it was advertised like that. I used the bus transport a few times but I def see what they were getting at. I’m glad I could bring back some nostalgia, thanks dude!!
At least they tried something plausible to explain the “tunnels” (Mall, Service entrances, Subway, anything long)
This game had hella loading screens
LOL OMG soooo funny. I remember those ads too!! NO LOADING SCREENS!!! revolutionary. Then I get the game, put it in the ol' phat, start it up... and the first damn thing I see is a loading screen!!!! I mean, ok, ok, I was a dumb kid and prolly only half watched the ads really, but it said "no loading screens" !!!!! Did it specify no loading screens ONLY BETWEEN LEVELS on the ad? I felt a bit jipped but again I was just a dumb kid but I still feel like my mistake was understandable?? anyone else think the same as me?? Lol nevertheless GREAT T-hawk game. Thug1 was better. thug 2.... sucked hard 😮
I still preferred the loading halls to loading screens because you could combo through maps
I didn’t know they had Michael Douglas character in the game. That is hilarious
I knew that scene had to be referencing something haha
Dude, that just blew my mind! I had to check if anyone else her already noticed it already. Falling down is a masterpiece!
@@lennartbehrendt788oof I cringe when I see people say. Don't get me wrong it's a good movie but, like other similar movies American Psycho, taxi driver, and American History X, etc whenever someone says one of those is their favourite or masterpieces it sets off red flags for me. Because most times than not for the people I meet who say they "like" on of those those films, like them for the wrong reasons and miss the point of them entirely.
@MrIndiemusic101 I know what you're saying and kind of feel you with that. However I think you should (not in my case but generally) differentiate between people saying masterpiece or personal favorite. If you like fight club for example because of the fight scenes and it's that what makes you have fun watching the movie - go for it, nothing wrong with it.
Falling down has always been one of my favorites - propably for the "wrong reasons", too. I know all about social injustice or inequalities or reflections of the American society but what makes me love this film is mostly something different.
But who cares as long as I don't get into discussions about if this film is better than XYZ.
Holy hell I cannot believe ive never noticed the amount of movie references in this game like the dude with the rocket launcher is litterly the guy from Falling Down
This game was legendary for my childhood plus the soundtrack absolutely slapped, with a few being covers recorded specifically for the game
I didn't play this but man did bam and Tony have a massive impact on my childhood.
Same here man, it’s a shame whats goin on with Bam rn
@@EvanHelblingYTfr, I hope he cleans up his act soon.
@@dannyboy591he has tried turning around so many times that man is permanently dizzy now.
@@Evansmustard true, however i did read a recent article where he's a month sober, which is a step in the right direction. hopefully he doesn't relapse.
Same. I wasn’t into skateboarding much back then but those were the two names that came up all the time in 2000s
I wish more games were as created as they were back then that’s what makes them fun I feel like everything is repetitive now
Fucking love this game. The hyper-gross out comic book bits really brought everything together, I know people prefer THUG but this has a much better story that actually feels like a story (as opposed to unique missions in skate maps) - really appreciate the skate tape at the end as well, it was the one thing missing.
The Santa Cruz art style gave it that skate feel throughout it all. And thankyou I was confused why they skipped over the tape!
This and underground was my favourites.. wasn't a fan of underground 2
@@Ironmoore234wasnt underground the one when Ben Franklin skates? I loved that one
@@zwicker5585 undgeround 2 was yer
Ahhhh and the Falling Down reference hits me almost 20 years later. The guy who opens downtown with a rocket, is a reference to the movies
This nostalgia hurt this really was the last good TH game & it was fitting for me going from preteen to teen & life hasn’t really been the same since right? 😣
Takes me back to gamestop days when this was on the front rack by the entrance. As well as being promoted heavily on Mtv with Green Day. This game was special.
3:09 this is Michael Douglas from «Falling Down» (1993) and Easter egg of a scene in the movie, where he does a rocket launcher shot at a construction site.
that skate tape was mad creative 🔥🔥
Thankyou! 🔥
This was my first TH game. I haven’t played it since the skate series came out but man this gave me a huge nostalgia trip and makes me want to play it again. I beat that game probably 5 times.
me and my little brother played this on xbox until the disc literally wore out from being played too much lol. it was sooo good, the music, the game play the characters... it was all sooo goood
Absolutely loved this game as a kid. Thanks for the nostalgia and loving all your videos so far, quality stuff
No problem man, glad to bring back the ole memories. Thankyou!
Just got a rush of nostalgia from your skate demo at the end. Spent hours watching the old CKY and Tony Hawk compilations.
Another amazing video by the way. Excellent summary of the game and your analogies are hilarious. Keep it up!
Nice! i’m glad you enjoyed that part. I used to watch all those old comps at my local skate shop growing up.
I appreciate that a lot man thankyou!!!
This was one of the best game overviews of all time. I definitely need to give you that props man. Loved the humor, pacing, story telling, everything was on point, you are gifted with story telling my friend.
Thankyou dude, i’ve been trying to improve on the storytelling lately so that means a lot :)
Fun fact, the two main characters, player character and Mindy, are voiced by Terry McGinnis and his “sidekick” Max, from Batman Beyond, being a nerdy skate kid growing up, that fact, the soundtrack, and the game being simply just really fun, this was and is my favorite Tony Hawk game
It's my default Tony Hawk game whenever I fire one up. I need my rail stalls, dawg.
Rail stalls and bert slides baby
This was one of my favorite games growing up. Love the way your videos flow. Keep it up!
I first found you like 4+ years back from vocal tutorials, and just started replaying American Wasteland the other day, after many years. It's cool to still see you on youtube, especially this type of content. Feels like the Burback gaming videos. Instant sub, gunna binge the back catalog.
Thanks man! It was tough to just quit that channel abruptly but I feel like I did enough with it. I’m glad you found me again, enjoy the backlog man I really appreciate it!
dudes pfp is tim from boss baby lmao 😂🤣
Loved it !!! We need a Remaster.
This video was killer. The jokes, the editing, great job dude!
Thankyou dude!
Genuinely get excited every time I see you uploaded a new video. This ones an absolute banger like the rest! Really hope the algorithm picks you up some day and this channel gets the growth it deserves.
I appreciate that a lot man thankyou! It seems the algorithm is helpin me a bit more lately, so my hopes are up 🤘
loved this game so much, I think you encapsulated it so well.
Just realized the guy that helps us get through to downtown is a play on the movie ‘falling down’
Best Tony Hawk game imo, I probably get replay it once a year. Great video as always dude!
Definitely has some of the best tricks and gameplay, thankyou as always my dude!
the things id do for a remastered american wasteland omg

Happy to hear that man, thankyou
Loved the video my guy! I also love American wasteland. Glad to see it being talked about.
Thankyou my dude! I had to complete the Tony story trilogy, it was fun to revisit this one

I spent so much time online playing this, the combos man. The combos ❤️❤️❤️
Just found your channel . Can’t believe you don’t have more followers you’re hilarious. Love your stand up kind of style of narration 😂👍🏻

Yo the TimeSplitters sound effects are awesome bro.
this is my childhood, man..loved these times i‘m so thankful for this
No way crablord popping up in my recommended doing video game videos now 😭 thats crazy glad to see u still on the grind
Haha that’s wild 😂 I appreciate that bro, glad u found this
That "falling down" reference was top notch.
So much nostalgia. This video brought me back to happier innocent times. What a great game
Thank you
I’m glad to hear that man, you’re welcome :) and thankyou!
That missile launcher scene was a reference to the movie “falling down”
First vid I’ve seen of yours. Great one!
Thankyou! Welcome to the channel :)
Played and beat everyone and stopped after this one. Good times on my PS2
AW was elite, from the clothes to the soundtrack to the viva la bam inspired story it was so ahead of its time
Wow, I remember playing this game when I was 12. I'm 30 now. Think I might find my old xbox and play it again.
Doooooo ittt
Damn that comic strip intro and the character selection on the bus has so much nostalgia for me
Just found my new favorite channel
❤️❤️
Absolutely my favorite Tony Hawk by far... watching this I gotta get my hands on a copy again
Such a unique and fun story!
Just subbed, you deserve more views bro. Last skating game I played was THUG2, this game looks just as fun.
Thankyou bro, THUG 2 is my childhood hero
Please do more childhood favorites of mine! Your editing style is incredible and it’s just constant jokes through out 😂
Thankyou haha, much appreciated! If you had to pick one game what would it be?
@@EvanHelblingYT duke nukem 3d or call of duty big red one! But fitting with the theme of these childhood games, you’ve gotta dive into King Kong the video game from 2005! Such an underrated movie based game and probably of the first pc games I really got into as a kid! I’ve been binge watching all your videos and my chest hurts from laughing so much!
Please do guitar hero since you like rhythm based games guitar hero 1-4 were a majority of my childhood as well as all the 007 games you should do the from Russia with love game as well just throwing ideas out there lmao
Watched dis video first and den been watching mo of yours. Funny and editing is good. Keep it up
Thankyou bro, much appreciated 🤘
New sub here..im so glad i found this channel during my most recent smoke session lol
The soundtrack still with me to this day
One of the best videogames ever! And the soundtrack is INSANELY GOOD
damn bro you are mad funny. like i normally get bored of a nostalgic game recap video and skip through it but yours was so well paced and well written and well EDITED that i watched all the way through attentively laughing out loud and rewinding shit. first time ive done that with a youtube vid in a min
Man that means so much that you said that, thankyou! That’s exactly what i’m trying to do with the recap style videos - I appreciate it big time 😎🤘
First and last Tony Hawk game i ever had, so much great memories. Had this as cracked version, never passed few missions always only free roamed. Thank you for memory nostalgia
One of my favorite games of all time. Had copies for GC, OG/360 and played it endlessly. It’s also crazy to think the run the Tony Hawk games had up to this point. 5 amazing games, 5 amazing years back to back. So glad I grew up on this
I remember the intro w/ the cutscene w the skater picking up the THAW comic & the Frank Black song just playing “I wanna live in Los Angeles “
This is my favorite Tony hawk game … first game i got on my 360 for christmas as a kid … like 2005-06
This game is literally a core memory for me. And the whole childhood skating and goofing around just or almost like in the game xD
The art work of this game always stuck with me. Such a late 90s 00s sk8r aesthetic.
The “no loading screens”. lol loved it
I still remember going to target and buying this… love the nostalgia
Thanks man
Watching this taught me the DS version is surprisingly accurate
Edit: the maps are surprisingly accurate, this story is way more interesting
You gotta love the handheld versions, at least they kept it somewhat similar
This was peak THPS for me. The punk rock inspired aesthetic, the awesome music, and the mechanics and gameplay were at their best here in my opinion. The fully completed Skate Ranch is really a blast to shred too, pulled off some of my highest scoring (legit) combos there.
As a bmx'er this was my all time favourite TH
Dude the guy with the rocketlauncher was a reference to the movie falling down.
This game is littered with pop culture/movie references too. The part where you get the bag of goodies back for Mr. D is a homage to the film Falling Down.
I love the subtle Falling Down reference
I randomly thought about this childhood game and now I found this video so thank you
Perfect timing, thanks for checkin it out!
Ahh the memories with me and my little brother…we’d stay up til 3am playing this gem on summer break…miss those days man
The little Sea of thieves music at the end was a nice touch
Thanks it’s my favorite victory tune haha
Man, your videos are SO underrated
Much appreciated man, thankyou 🧙♀️
Sweet sweet nostalgia.. I miss getting a new THPS game every year.. Bring it back!
unlocking downtown is clearly a reference to the movie "falling down" and its rocket launcher construction site scene
This game was my favorite out of all the Tony hawk games it’s was the only one to ever have bmxing included and the music along with the story absolutely blew my 4 year old brain into the stratosphere and made me skate plus bmx and listen to the music I heard then until now this game will always be a great reminder of my childhood
I shoulda mentioned the bmx part of it, I don’t think I got good enough gameplay of it thi
The BMX was a useless addition. It also controls terribly.
I did not realize until years later they actually had an Easter Egg about the movie “Fall Down”. That’s pretty based.
I learned about that one thanks to a comment on this video lol. Super cool
completely missed the "falling down" reference when i was a kid
1:51 the mall transition map is iconic ⛽️⛽️⛽️
I find it odd that you didn't mention at all is that another feature of this game was that you can switch from a skateboard to a BMX bike with a button. That was the one thing I loved about this game the most. I was a kid who preferred BMX over skateboarding so even though I played through all the "THPS" games. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for the "Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX" games & "Matt Hoffman's Pro Bmx"
Yeah I removed that segment to save time, shoulda kept it tbh
Oh my days, the mission where you have to skitch on the dog brought back so many frustrating memories.
One might say that after this game, it’s all one big DOWNHILL JAM!!
Yeah that Falling Down reference is sick
The tray of vegetables joke was incredible. good sir.
Hahaha thankyou good sir
I swear this was my favorite out of the series
I loved the homage to falling down with that Michael douglas npc
I just noticed Will Friedle voices the main character.
This is one of my all time favorite video games
i loved this game so much, one of my favorites
That ending beat sounds like NASA music. Good stuff.
Thankyou my man
I remember playing this back in my childhood i was able to complete the game in ps2 with no memory card save storage in one go in. 3-3.5 hours . This was the first that i ever completed a game in life abd feeling of completing a game for the 1st in your life feels like such a achievement and like a proud moment for yourself like you did something but childhood experience aside the tony hawk franchise did setup a whole new generation of gamers .
SAME! I remember being mad if someone had turned my ps2 off while I was away too because I had to start this game over so many times LMAO the day i finally beat it in one session felt like such a huge accomplishment.
7:00 the strangest cutscene i ever saw when i was young.
This game was such a VIBE man 🛹
American Wasteland is the last one I actively played for any amount of time. I enjoyed it, it had some cool gameplay, but it definitely felt a little bit old for when it came out
Amazing soundtrack
Bro the chokehold Mindy had me in as a kid😭
I clicked the right video. Amazing memories playing combo mombo online. I felt like a try hard on this game online lol.
After so many years, I only realise the "Bag of tricks" scene is a reference to Falling Down
