Joel, mate, your comment at the 4:04 mark! Watching Americans trying to use cutlery is like watching a chimps' tea party to me. OK, I'm an older, working class Brit, but table manners and correct use of cutlery were drilled in to me at home and at school, so seeing fully-grown, intelligent humans using a knife and fork like they just discovered how to use tools, proper bothers me.

Exactly- watching Americans eat is disgusting. Huge amounts, eaten at a speed which means they aren't savouring the food, they may as well have a trough and be done with pretending to be human.

Nothing you do pisses me off, Joel - other than perhaps your comments about black pudding. 😂 When we lived for six yrs in the US, my kids' commented that, "My school chums eat as if they were brought up in the 15th century", and "Why all the flags, the Pledge in class, and the rah-rah and anthem at sports games? Don't they know they're American, or do they need reminding ten times a day?" My son (then 10) called his US classmates "insecure in their identity". 🍁🇰🇪

That's because of their accents. Americans do not pronounce the words properly, it's like all chewed up in their mouths. My pet hate is how their pronounce the word international as innernational. For the love of God how much effort does it take to pronounce the letter T. Inter and inner are two different words. There again some lazy Brits don't pronounce their Ts, Init, washer. Gosh it's sounds so illiterate.

The USA is not the center of the world, your reaction videos give you exposure to other countries and cultures. We are who we are, home is always home, I'm from a country called Aotearoa (Land Of The Long White Cloud) the rest of the world know us as New Zealand. The patriotism thing is quite weird, particularly the pledge in school. We do have the national anthem at sporting events in the UK, but iit tends to be at national events. Though I am old enough to remember it being something done at the cinema or theatres, and the BBC played it before closing down for the night, so we did do it more in the past, though not the pledging, nor were we ever as big on flags.

I am 70, and remember very clearly when I was a child that the national anthem at the cinema or theatre was anticipated by the audience which rushed for the exits before it began. At home, the telly was switched off before the anthem got to it's third note, invariably.

[4:35] That applies to germany as well. You order together, you start eating when all the plates are served and the plates get cleared, when everyone has finished eating. When you finished your plate the cutlery goes 5 o'clock as a sign for the waiter that you're done. A good waiter would never clear plates, while someone is still eating.

Obviously a lot of these are generalisations. Yes, some Americans can be quite loud and so you notice them more than the quiet ones. Similarly if you’ve ever been exposed to ‘Brits abroad’ I can only imagine how Europeans must view gangs of British lads & lasses when they’re in full flow. And not all Brits are like that either.
Not to blow smoke up your arse, Joel, but you’re a different kind of American and this channel proves that. I’d say you’re much more open to understanding different cultures and also thoughtful about the shortcomings of your own country (demonstrated well in the recent US foods banned in Europe video). Unless we can be critical of ourselves and to be aware of different ways of doing things there can be no room for self-improvement.
I’d be interested in seeing the ‘things Brits do that annoy Americans’ video to see if you chime with any of those - similarly the ‘EU foods banned in the US’ video. It’s good to understand and reflect on these things.

Your quest for knowledge has made you very grounded.
I think your trip to the UK and your honesty about it was great to see.
Yes, certain things about Americans in general are a bit annoying but look on the bright side........it could be worse.........you could be French.

This probably sounds a little odd,
But volume can be consistent with what your ears are used to hearing, for example, some folk can sleep quite soundly living next a fast running highway,
But put them in an area, where there’s quite literally no noise pollution and they’ll struggle to nod off.
The comparison is consistent with different languages, meaning, if it’s something you’re not used to, you’re ears are more attuned, to pick up 😊👍

The other day I saw an old American movie, about 1950, where they were using their knives & forks correctly, the British way, so the fork only, baby way has not been the norm in the US always. It seems the manners were dropped in recent times, probably because of fast food culture. The National Anthem in the UK is only played at international sporting events. When the game is between the 'home' nations, ie England, Scotland, Wales etc, then each country has it's own National anthem. Our Freedom of Speech stops at offensive or incitement to violence etc. I think the ultra patriotism is to do with the fact that most Americans are of recent immigration families, the majority being from the last 100-150 years. The ancestors of the vast majority of Americans were not in the States at the time of the war of independence from Britain, but in their homelands often in Britain itself or elsewhere in Europe. Thus the American school system has had to instil a strong sense of patriotism in generations of newcomers from all over the world, as well as teaching them the English language.

      @BarenakedFi 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Nah - Americans eating with just a fork is much older (I suspect it's NEVER been something routinely done in colonised America- perhaps brought across with the pioneers at a time when eating with 2 implements wasn't much of a thing here, either). During WWII, it was the cause of concern with American undercover operatives, and it was drummed into them to break the habit, as going into occupied Europe and only eating with a fork was an easy way of them being identified as American.

Freedom of speech doesn't stop with being offensive. There is no law against being offensive in the UK, just as there is no right to "not be offended" in the UK.

Not coming to North Wales when it’s as beautiful as Scotland. No offence 😊. Take a look at Conwy and Snowdonia. So many nice villages and beautiful scenery. Mid wales like Llangollen is great too. The viaduct is amazing. There is a physiological reason as why Americans are louder. I saw a TH-cam video about it once. The patriotism thing is quite cultish.

The fact that I could still hear him talking during take off takes some pipes! (and I had my ear buds in my ears!) He was telling the lady next to him (a stranger) that he 'loved little girls' because they were 'so trusting' and I'm thinking, dude, we can all hear you and you sound creepy af!!

Hello Joel. Happy New Year to you my friend - I've been stuck at my mum's for a few days and therefore I'm catching up. The fact that I'm still following your channels after two or more years should tell you a lot: you don't piss me off at all...! I do think you should give Edinburgh another go, though - the first incident with the two girls on leaving the station was probably the only time I've ever known you to exhibit that Americal forwardness, which they swiftly dealt with; and you've never shared what happened at night but, I feel those are two incidents that could have happened anywhere. Come back and see some of our museums, galleries, parks, beaches and suburbs so that you get a real picture of the city that replaces those first impressions. As I say, tell us beforehand where you're going and when, and we can suggest what is and is't likely to be good, given the time of year and day of the week.
