- Doors are things you open when you want to pass through and close when you want to keep something out … or in. But symbolically, doors represent a lot more than that: transition, change, and opportunities that await us on the other side. What does this door represent to you?
Today we're going to use layers to build depth of color and texture in this old stone wall and red door painting. Let yourself get lost in the layers and enjoy how each one changes the last as the textures build. Have patience and enjoy!

I’m painting on a 12x16-inch stretched canvas, but you can paint on any type and size of canvas you like.
I used:
• Gesso (optional)
• A pencil and ruler
• A 1/2-inch flat brush
• #8 bright
• #3 round
• #1 round
• Stiff, natural bristle brush
• Mate Medium

I’m using Liquitex Basics acrylic paint in the following colors:
• Mars Black
• Titanium White
• Unbleached Titanium White
• Cerulean Blue (any blue will work)
• Cadmium Red Medium
• Quinacridone Magenta
• Ultramarine Blue (any blue will work)
• Cadmium Yellow Medium (any yellow will work)
But you can use any colors you like.

I followed your instructions and I pulled off the painting. It has been my 5th painting. I have been an artist for years using pencil and charcoal and never could quite achieve what I was looking for until my wife talked me into painting. I have always wanted to paint however felt apprehensive due to the knowledge and skill but low and behold I was not too bad at it. I want to thank you for doing this painting I enjoyed it 100% I have subscribed to your channel and will continue to follow your instruction.

You reminded me not to worry and showed me what a gentle touch looks like on brush bristles. The concept of under painting is interesting to me. Again, thank you for this learning experience. My rocks for the stepping stones came out better than I expected. Nice technique ! I just finished this work and the only problem I had was with the color tones I ended up with for the red door. Came out darker than I wanted. I must have used too much of the Quinacridone Magenta. I also added some small flowers (dabs) in the grasses.

Hi Jane... I had to laugh when you used the word 'precise' and then followed it up with 'blop'. many traditions concerning a Red door...from Gods protection Promise, ( represents Christs shed blood ) to a place of rest and stay in the horse and buggy days to travelers , to Safe Homes during the civil war, to a symbol of the being mortgage free ,to Good luck and even for the absent minded so they could find their house and that was .Einstein...lol.........beautiful painting and another interesting and great tutorial Jane.......and thank You
