Thank you so much Dr. Raja, your videos are giving me very important insights, not only for my work as a teacher, artist and activist, but also to look at the current situation in Palestine, and the geopolitical power dynamics. I love the sensitivity and care with which you communicate these ideas.
thank you so much for this video, you explained chapter one perfectly, I wasn't really getting it because Freire's writing is so thick but you simplified it thank you.
Chapter 1 definitely applies to our lives as teachers and students. We still have yet to realize our humanity. We still currently reside in that top-down manner where the second-hand garments of the oppressors are passed on to the oppressed. We still utilize a pedagogy FOR the oppressed rather than a pedagogy OF the oppressed.
Thank you Dr Raja, I'm so pleased I came across Paulo Freire. Your lecture has simplified Chap 1 adding and giving this whole subject matter even more than I thought was possible. I Thank you (and Paulo of course) for carrying the mantle and helping newcomers like me to learn more in depth education on this very humane but essential work on the Pedagogy of the Oppressed🙏
Yes, I definitely think some university lecturerers need to read this book. One size does not fit all, engagement is a key factor in teaching which is missing in institutes designed for middle class students.
Thank you so much for this, I read the whole chapter 1 but you just made it easier to understand by breakdown the concept. Just like you said, this made me reflect on what is happening in our country. How people (oppressed) are fighting each other for the name of the politicians (oppressors), as the election is near.
the oppressors like to brand something else as the true oppressors, and they are usually among the oppressed. Then what happens is the infighting of the oppressed made worse by the day by the oppressors. Yes, your application of the oppressors being the politicians and the latter being the people is correct.
Thank you so much Dr Raja. Your lecture has helped me in so many ways. I can say now i understand the interpretation of Paul Freire's theory. May you Keep on helping us DR Rajah
I have to prepare an exam about this book, but the lessons they gave us were incomprehensible... luckily I found your video that cleared a lot of doubts, thank you very much!
No, I've done reading it. I went here to clarify things since our college instructors don't discuss anything in this module-online class setting anymore. I'm not too good at academic English as well since it's not my first language - reading the book was a struggle to me, so thank you so much for this!
Sir, thankyou so much for the summary. This is a really very true picture and situation that I find around myself. Although book was written long time ago but is valid today. It helps us how we need to work during the situation and false generosity concept is very well highlighted in this chapter. Thankyou for brining the clarity because as a student we are unable to understand it the way you have clarified different concepts.
@@masoodraja I realized your further videos would answer this as well. I'm trying to use this knowledge to organize graduate student workers, do you suggest any other resources?
Thank you so much for this analysis of Paulo Freire's work. On a different note, I would like to ask you about the relationship between postcolonialism and resistance studies. Are there books you can recommend for that?
Thank you. Yes, certainly there is a strong connection. I think the best place would be to start with Fanon and then move on to Cesaire and people like Chinweizu.

I have been seen your all video 12 chapter of this book really, sir these are very informative for us. You are mercy and gifted by to us. Thank you sir g
The reason I started recording the whole book was and is to discuss the book in an interconnected manner. All your questions so far are asking me to give simple answers, which I cannot provide. As I suggested earlier, please read the book and then watch the chapter by chapter videos and by the end, I hope, most of the questions would be addressed. I am not going to summarize things in comments. Hope this clarifies things.
I search and I search and I cannot find a discussion on Freire’s purpose in using “pedagogy” vs say “andragogy” or “didactics”. I can’t shake the troubling sense of infantilism inherent in choosing a term which essentially means to teach children rather than adults or just “people”. Are we to assume there’s perhaps a translation error or does he intend to infantilize the human, adult or not, who exists outside a state of conscientização? Perhaps he’s using pedagogy in the same colloquial way that most people use it, devoid of age implication. The most optimistic way I can read it is perhaps, given a state of conscientização, the awakened oppressed may now empower themselves by teaching their own children thus imbuing them with the same state. So perhaps the “of” in the title is literal and not ironic, ergo not “teaching the oppressed (child)” but more like, “the teaching praxis of the oppressed”
I would agree that it is not teaching of the oppressed but Pedagogy of the oppressed, which means a pedagogy informed by and with the active participation of the oppressed. Freire’s project was about informal adult education but it can obviously be modified for formal education as well. As for pedagogy, I think he uses it as a technical term that strongly emphasizes praxis.
Thank you so much Dr. Raja, your videos are giving me very important insights, not only for my work as a teacher, artist and activist, but also to look at the current situation in Palestine, and the geopolitical power dynamics. I love the sensitivity and care with which you communicate these ideas.

Well sexism occurs in all cultures and critical pedagogy can be used to teach equality and respect for each other.
