    • I brushed up on my drawing a few hours before my drawing competition.
    • His good deeds brought about the respect he got.
    • Because of the inflation in our country, the majority of the people have to cut back on their basic needs.
    • I have to set aside some times to go over the vocabulary I’ve learned without putting them off.
    • Sometimes I wonder if I can take over my father’s work.

    Hello Issy, as usual smashing lesson! I'm Italian but I adore learning new phrasal verbs and collocations as well. Studying English is, for want of a better words, tough albeit motivating.

    I haven't written narratives for a long time, but now that I' m sitting for the c1 exam I need to brush up on this skill.

      FANTASTIC example, just be careful with 'sitting', it doesn't carry any prepositions, so you could say 'I'm sitting the C1 exam' OR 'I'm preparing for the C1 exam' (Also, I have lots of excellent free resources for C1 Advanced students, you can get yours too at www.englishwithissy.com :)

    brush up on بتحسين or تتقن =
    Bring About = يُسبَّب / يُؤدى = What brought about the change in his attitude?
    cut back/dawn تقلل او التقليص = We have had to cut back on training this year
    Set aside توفير = She tries to set aside some money every month.
    bring up ظهر = Click with the right mouse button to bring up a new menu
    put off يُؤَجِّل شَيئاً ما = I’ll put off doing the washing until tomorrow.
    go over = مراجعة Go over your work before you hand it in
    run out of = ينفذ منك We ran out of fuel.

      Hi, as I’m British, I naturally teach British English, although all of these phrasal verbs are used in both American and British English

      Great answer! Be careful with 'if only' though, it should be 'If only I had brushed up', in the past perfect, the rest is great!

    I would like to brush up on English before going for my trip to Portugal
    Watching TikTok videos really brought about improvement in my English
    At first, I recommend you to cut back on sugar and processed oils, and after a while it will be easier for you to remove any unhealthy products from your diet.

      Good example! I would just omit the 'my' and say 'I had run out of energy and passion'.

      Be careful with your verb tenses because 'will' means the future, and 'yesterday' is the past tense, so this is a little confusing
