The beautiful seaside town of Nerja, Spain. The jewel of the Costa Del Sol, in the province of Malaga. Once a sleepy fishing village but now a town with a population of around 25,000 people.
Nerja has retained it's Spanish charm, and doesn't suffer from the blight of high rise apartment buildings like much of this coastal area. The old quarter area of town is pretty much unchanged, and still has winding narrow streets, traditional Andalucian whitewashed housing, and geranium covered wrought iron terraces.
The dramatic Sierra Almijara mountains lie to the east of the town, protecting it from any bad weather. The focal point of the town is the Balcon De Europa, which was once a Moorish Castle, but now a fabulous promenade, with amazing views of the beaches and coves that make up the sweeping panoramic view.
There are numerous excellent restaurants, hotels and bars to make any holiday memorable. Transport is good locally and from Malaga airport.
There are blue flag beaches, probably the best of which is Burriana Beach, with it's soft sand, blue sea and numerous bars, restaurants and accommodation close by.
The weather is always good, with an average year round temperature of 25C, and 320 days of sunshine per year.
