Hot Topic is mostly a pop culture store now, but back in the early 2000s-2010s, it really was a great resource for anyone into alternative clothing and alternative band merchandise. It was basically the only place you could get anything goth/metal/punk back in the day if you lived outside of alternative hotspots in the US. It's not as relevant anymore with online shopping and all, but I appreciate what it did for alternative subcultures at the time. I remember when I got my first death metal shirt from there back in the day. I got it out of the bag to show my dad and all he said was "What the fuck is that?" Great memories.
Thats really not true. It still is goth/metal/punk i get most my metal and punk shirts from there.... Its still alternative, its just overtime the term alternative has expanded.
@@die444luve If I think about early 2000s Hot Topic compared to modern day Hot Topic, way more focus is put on pop culture items like tv show/movie/video game/funko pop merch, etc now. Back then it was mostly band shirts and alt clothing brands. They obviously still sell alt clothing and band merch, it's just that way more focus is put on pop culture. Someone I know worked there and they told me that the current management considers Hot Topic to be a pop culture store, while the old management considered it a music inspired alternative shop. The fact that they have so much pop culture stuff is probably what's keeping them in business so I can't blame them. Hot Topic has definitely changed, I've seen it discussed so many times. Have you never seen the "bring old hot topic back" memes lol.

yeah EMP has been super hit and miss for me so i just avoid it now. i got some really good quality steel toe cap boots, but all the accessories (and one shirt) i got were very cheap in quality even though the price wasnt. like a chain i got was so flimsy i deformed it by sitting on it lol.

Could the Disney influx be because of the whole rockabilly-ish / pin-up styles that became popular in 2014/2015? Because I remember that a good chunk of those people were also a part of the “Disney adults” who dressed up as Disney characters in a pin up style. And that was also about the time that both Hot Topic and Torrid started to go hard with Disney-fying everything.
I'm from the USA and I've loved Hot Topic since I was an emo goth teenager so your assumption is totally spot on. 😂 I'm 33 and still buy through them because their quality is pretty dang good and lasts for years! It's easy for me to find more of an every day, wearable, alternative aesthetic through them. I usually wait for the sales though because they're spendy. I'm excited that you did this video!
I started watching about 3-4 years ago and at the time I was going through some things mentally and emotionally and you would bring me such joy. Congrats on 2 million!! As for Hot Topic, I was a teenager in the 90s and can confirm that this haul pretty well represented exactly what Hot Topic is and always has been. We always said it was for the alternateens, the ones who wanted to be edgy without leaving the mall😅 It's always been good for band tshirts, though, and sometimes you can find a hidden gem if you're lucky

Hot topic used to be very goth, very metal. Now it is more pop culture, but you can also find cool goth stuff. Also, they seem to be bringing lots of goth stuff back. They are in my experience cheaper than other goth shops that are only online. (Thought they still get up there and feel more expensive each time I look) But like with most companies I find it to be hit or miss if it's good or not. I have some AMAZING pieces from there for the price and have gotten some bad stuff too. I NEVER touch the jewelry personally. I am very picky with pants/shorts but the only pants I like come from hot topic. They are also super easy for me personally to return to being in the US. Overall they are decent. Torrid is their sister company that does plus size too which is cool.

Hot topic used to be very goth, very metal. Now it is more pop culture, but you can also find cool goth stuff. Also, they seem to be bringing lots of goth stuff back. They are in my experience cheaper than other goth shops that are only online. (Thought they still get up there and feel more expensive each time I look) But like with most companies I find it to be hit or miss if it's good or not. I have some AMAZING pieces from there for the price and have gotten some bad stuff too. I NEVER touch the jewelry personally. I am very picky with pants/shorts but the only pants I like come from hot topic. They are also super easy for me personally to return to being in the US. Overall they are decent. Torrid is their sister company that does plus size too which is cool.
