@@PikaLink91 perhaps it wasn't very important for her, but reviews are meant to be mainly objective with a little bit of subjective content at the end when talking about what she personally liked about the game. She is making the review for others to determine if they want to buy the game not for herself. I just appreciate honest reviews more than this... Any person who played this game would have told you it's downfalls, no matter how much they loved playing it.
I miss the portraits so bad and the characters seems lifeless idk...I'll wait more news and DLC before buying it. I'm still having fun with Rune Factory 4 S while waiting for Rune Factory 5 ✨
The dialogs aren't too bad, actually I think they got patched along with the loading times. But yes portraits would be welcome. I had to get into camera view to see who was the cutest ha ha. I have to admit the Bachelorettes are all pretty cute.
Story of Seasons Trio of Towns is the best entry in the franchise by far. I loved the characters and art style. This game looks good however no portraits during dialogue bothers me.
Yes, I love the game, I been a fan of the Bokujou saga since childhood, and the only thing that bothers me in this game is the lack of portrait, even the Doraemon story of seasons has portrait u-u.

My game should be here either today or tomorrow. I am so excited. I absolutely adore Friends of Mineral Town and the Pioneers of Olive Town takes all the Fomt aspects and adds some SDV concepts. I am so freaking excited.
I loveeeeee that you said everything good, amazing, not so good, and bad of the game, this is the best review I have seen so far, I think all of the negative comments surrounding this game even though they have a point was so exaggerated, I am so glad I finally see someone that has a critic opinion and appreciates the good things, keep it up!
The negativity is well deserved the game has piss poor frame rate at to times and the load time can also be bad.People should know about this before they buy the game. I'm aware marvelous is working on another patch so I can wait.

Yeah the makers is the place @Marvelous needs to patch -- why cant a maker just be prepped to make multiple items? You shouldn't have to craft 10 different machine for type of item. just 1 machine that will make 10 if enough is put in. Its an odd choice Ive heard literally zero positives about. no one likes it.
@@squidracerX they should've been made so you can highlight the item you want to process in the tool bar and press the Y button for it to start working instead of opening the menu to select the item.
I just bought Story of Seasons Doraemon and Friends of Mineral Town and then found out about this. It doesn't sound like a "OMG I need it now" but I'll definitely get it once I am done with the two I just got. I love that the art style is more similar to the Doraemon one because that one looked gorgeous.
Mineral Town is so much fun. I didn't play the original but this game is pretty good for not having a lot of events. You'll constantly be busy all day. Only thing I dislike is how dark it gets at "night" Why is night 6pm for.
I played all three; story of seasons Doraemon, FoMT and the PoOT and nobody is asking, but here are some of my personal thoughts: 1. FoMT is really just a remake. It's the OG harvestmoon but better executed gameplay and updated stuff here and there - but it was just an OK game for me. It was fairly easy, hardly challenging and there was not much to do. But I really liked how they have more ores in the mines hahahaha 2. SoS Doraemon. This game is just 🥺💖 The music, watercolor graphics and everything about this game gives you the nostalgic feeling. There was an actual storyline to follow which requires you to advance your farm also. The gameplay is just so-so, harder farming simulation, but overall is an exciting game since the story keep on advancing and they have a lot of side stories going on also. 3. SoS PoOT. I am having mixed feelings towards this game. This game is like Stardew valley with a bit of rune factory then name it Story of Seasons 🤣 I've played the game for 5 hours only and I am on 15th of spring, overall game is good, but I am not sure whether I like this game or not hahaha
The UI/HUD looks very cute and love the theme it has with it's wooden background or the notepad. it looks like the intro scene for the "typical and basic farming sim story" the cutscene snippet looks very cute. That kinda sucks that there is repetitive dialogue, hopefully if they do provide updates, that the dialogue pool for the characters can expand. Cleaning up a massive farm, yeah it certainly feels a bit like Stardew and even Animal Crossing to offer some additional comparison, which is certainly a rewarding experience to clean the land and prep it for further things, for farming, paths, etc. PET SHOP! I am sold lol. I love the subtle pause after Nupi, I couldn't tell if it was a sort of "I almost forgot the 3rd Cat's name" or "I feel silly for this name, but I will tell you any way". I do have to ask, why "Tom&Jerry"? I am interested in that answer. Inventory System... the bane of every gamer lol. Very helpful advice for sure. If I pick this up I am certainly going to make it a priority. The camera feature is pretty interesting, especially the whole loading screens aspect of it. How quickly did you make it to get the Orichalcum tools, that you showed off in the video? You certainly did a lot of grinding to make them for sure. Makers sound like a great idea for the series, but yeah would be nice to consolidate them down into a basic group, but you did an interesting idea to group the makers in different sections. I enjoy creating the land to my own liking, the pathways and such sound like a good way to avoid so much of the random clutter spawns you mentioned. The fishing kinda looks like it has a Stardew mechanic. You are big into the food section, I remember back in Genshin you were always looking for the recipes and ingredients to make at least 1 of every dish. I love the pseudo-chibi look for this game. the style and design is something I could get into with this game. Let's hope the lag issue will get fixed soon, I know that was something you were mentioning to us before this video was complete. For the Music portion, reminds me of your previous video where you mentioned that there should be more variety, because I agree, the same music for a long period of time would either drive me mad, or just mute it.
Hi Ircha awesome video as always. I couldn't play this game more than two days before I stopped and quit because I hate timers. I want to relax in games I play and not race against a clock. Games like this should be real time like Animal Crossing.
If i think about any game now I watch your reviews. Our tastes line up so darn closely that anytime I have a gripe with a game it's something you mention, anything I love you mention... Very similar taste. So I trust your reviews the most. I know if you love and enjoy a game I will love and enjoy it =)

Very helpful review as always! The amount of makers and the loading times make this game a pass for me right now. Hopefully the developers will fix it but I’ve vowed to stop buying unfinished games that rely on patches. That being said, I always love and appreciate your reviews! Good to know there are some positives about this game.
Things that stopped me from buying this game: -The unnecessary amount of makers taking space in the farm -Boring characters with barely anything to say -Missing old beloved festivals -No character portraits -The new horrible design of the harvest sprites
Lol those are literally all of the issues I have with the game and I did buy it. It's still fun but I hold Story of Seasons to a higher standard than just being mediocre...And that's what it is currently... Mediocre. The characters being boring with nothing to say is bang on. You walk around town and all they can say is "hello". Lol. Compared with Trio of Towns or the original SOS this is a travesty... 😭

I bet Marvelous is going to make a better version of this game soon in the future, similar to what they did back in the days when they released tree of tranquility which was an okay game with issues and then soon after they released animal parade and that was a great game
Can't wait for this. Mineral Town is fun but it's a lot more simple than I would like. I miss harvest festivals and cooking contests. And it's usually your grandfather or father. Weird. Then again better than Story of Seasons for the 3DS. You answered an ad to get your farm.

I believe the developers said they are planning to patch the frame rate and if I'm not mistaken they mentioned some thing about the makers. I believe they are gonna combine some of them.... I may be wrong about the makers, but I am pretty sure I read that some where .
I've always considered you the Harvest Moon and Rune Factory guru. If you say its good/bad then it's good/bad 😄 I dont particularly like the overhead view though (Still spoiled by "It's a Wonderful Life"s camera) Nice review Ircha✌🏻
im having fun on my playthrough, and i i do agree that the makers should have been combined and also that u should be able to make mutiple instead of just one product.. but hopefully that will be fixed in future updates!
I haven't touched my Switch in a while but this seems actually a lot better and a lot more polished than Friends of Mineral town that it actually seems a good alternative when I'm bored with AC. You're the only one I trust with farming games 🥰 I also like there are a lot of makers so I have a lot to work towards to lol

It’s crazy how far ahead stardew valley is to all these games 5-6 years later when it was made by one guy. Bums me out, I loved harvest moon on the snes/ps1/gamecube. But they’re so lifeless now, hardly resembling a franchise with 25 years of iteration . Runefactory had its niche for one game and now they’re all just one hemeogeonous blob

Reminds me of Portia a lot, been waiting for awhile for your videos! But at the same time, every time I watch your videos, I always have the urge to buy the game. It would be cool if you can start a let's play series, I would be stoked if you do~
The characters are soooooo boring. I expected more than this. Shouldn't have bought this at full price and instead just wait for a sale. Is like the story and romance just get worse with each new release. Plus there is nothing mysterious or any fun things to do. I wish they actually bother to put more content into a town with some hidden mysteries instead of such dull characters. Even fishing is boring as hell. The characters talk so less that i don't know why i even bother to interact with them.
Sameeeeee!!!! They are apparently going to patch this but I really don't think any patch can really fix such a horribly written game... They would need to completely recreate all of the characters dialogue. They are better off just discounting it to 20 bucks and starting to work on a new title that is more in line with what we expect from Marvelous farming sims..
My favorite random detail, if you go to a parent's room, you can see that they had a baby photo of their son/daughter, but in the case of Jack, his grandparents have his photo :3. I really love the game, never experience the lag issue, also I read somewhere that they are making changes and updates to the game, so I hope they keep improving the game (I don't think they gonna add portrait but who knows q-q). The little town was also an impact, cuz previews games have big places to explore, I read that there is one DLC that adds an island, don't know if is true o-o.

This is a really good review! I’ve been recommended Story of seasons quite a lot. I love harvest moon and rune factory, but after playing harvest moon + a lot of hours on ACNH I wasn’t too excited to get another farming game. Now I’m starting to see how this story of seasons game is it’s own game. Am pretty excited to get it now! Put it on my wishlist. :D
I’m so busy these days I’m having to get extra choosy with what games I play on the weekend. I’ve been passing over games I would have jumped at in the past, but hey, that’s how it goes. Life is so much more interesting and rewarding than a game anyway. ♥️😎🤙🏼

Yay! I really look forward to play this on Friday! As far as I know the devs already promised to release an update soon to both optimize the loading screens and the makers. Also there will be dlc available which will add new areas, clothes and even new bachelors throughout the year. Also apparently there is a unicorn mount and a wolf mount to unlock, how cool is that?!
I agree with you Ircha! I am really enjoying this game and I as well have been a fan of Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons since I was a kid playing the original SNES harvest moon. My biggest complaint as well is the small world to explore and the clutter/mess that the makers have on the farm. With such a nice looking game, its such a shame they limit how much we can explore the world. Cant wait until the new DLC content with the new zones comes out.
I actually preordered this game weeks ago, but I canceled it after hearing mixed reviews. I am convinced now to give it a try, I’ll order it again soon 😊
I'm really surprised you didn't talk about how boring all the characters are... No one has anything to say in this game!!! No one has any personality. They are all like lifeless zombies. The farming is decent but that grid system is awful. Until you upgrade your tools you are stuck chopping/hitting one item at a time and I can't tell you how many times I hit air trying to get my character to chop a tree.... To top that all off, the town is tiny, there are no hidden areas or anything interesting to do. The festivals are barely there and those that I have seen so far were just a damn cut scene... And then we have the performance issues... Holy hell the frame rate SUCKS when you start putting all those ugly makers all over your farm. You can't even walk through your farm without the game looking like it's having a Coronary Ambolism. Marvelous should be ashamed of themselves releasing this under the story of seasons name... I am surprised you as a reviewer, didn't touch upon ANY of those things. It's almost like you didn't want to offend the company who gave you a free review code. You really disappointed me with this review. You didn't have to say you hated the game, but you could have been honest and told us the weak points as well as the good ones.
True. I was a bit surprised that none of those points were touched on. She's honest with how bad the Natsume games are and this game has had some horrible reception from both the Japanese playbase, some NA players who bought a japanese copy and gave their first impressions, other early review sites, and currently STILL from players as the game got in NA hands and even the devs are reaching out and acknowledging these concerns in the form of patches. So why not be honest about any of that? Once the Japanese concerns about the game came out, I decided to hold off on preordering and when more things kept being brought out. I withheld release day purchase altogether. I love the farming genre so I'll still eventually get it, preferably on sale and after all the patches that the devs have in mind. Like they mentioned touching up on the dialogue so I would rather wait to actually experience that change rather than play, get all the heart events with the boring dialogue and then have to restart to enjoy the fresh, new dialogue. Same with the maker update and whatever else the devs have in mind to address some of the complaints. I much rather play this game in a complete state, not in some frankenstein patch work. I'm also not a fan of the season pass being drawn out till August. Even if this game didn't have the problems it did, I would likely play this game till around May before slowly down and putting it on the back burner for a while. I would not be able to see myself continuously playing this game from March till August. So it's another incentive for me to wait for everything. I recently bought RF4S and even brought out my old 3ds and played Trio a bit. I got the game way late so I only ever got to year 2 before I began to focus more on my Switch games. So I'm not in any rush to purchase this game, nor do I feel itching to play.

I have been playing RF4S for months now and it's hands down one of my favourites game of all time. There is just so much to do in it, the dialogue is literally different from every single character, every single day. It's absolutely wild. The script for that game must be as long as some Stephen King novels lol. And I know it's not very fair to compare SOS PoOT to Rune Factory but... It kinda is? Lol. They are both farming sims.. Just because RF has the rpg monster fighting element, doesn't mean the social aspect (like villagers and marriage candidates) can't be compared. They have the exact same mechanic... But! Even if I say okay, I won't compare it to Rune Factory, I will compare it to previous SOS titles, it STILL falls extremely short. It's like PoOT has an identity crisis. It doesn't know if it wants to be Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon (from earlier days), My Time at Portia, Pokemon (lol???) or just Story of Seasons... It's completely all over the place and takes little bits and parts out of all of those games but doesn't do any of them perfectly. The farming aspect of the game is decent, but they had to ruin it with those awful makers and customization that could have been developed by a 6 year old... The paths and awful grid system... Omg. I just can't lol. I purchased it day one because I thought they would fix many of the issues before NA release... I also didn't know exactly how terrible the dialogue and characters are... Most reviewers and streamers didn't show the social aspect too much (and now I know why...). If the issue was just one or two quality of life things, I wouldn't have minded at all... But the issues the game currently has, is 100% game breaking for me. I play farming life sims majorly for the social aspect and farming as a secondary reason. If no one has any personality, to a point where I don't even care to go to the town to talk to anyone, I really don't see the point in playing. I am debating whether I want to return my game for a full refund (I got the Deluxe edition with the plushie and cloth poster which cost me a whooping $90 here in Canada) and just wait to buy it when it goes on sale one day... Or just keep it and not play it until August when all the dlc is already out and most problems were fixed (eventhough we don't even know if they will really be fixed by then).. I am leaning towards full refund but I hate returning games I already opened... Even if it's for a good reason. I rarely ever do it unless there are so many problems that I feel like I got duped buying the game (like in this case). They should have never released it in this state... The reception from the Japanese players should have really got their asses in gear to fix it before Western and European release dates.. Its all just so disheartening and its even more disheartening to see reviewers I respected sell their soul for money and game review keys... That's the only reason I could come up with as to why Ircha didn't mention any of the negative things in this game... I'll stick to ACG Reviews from now on. The only person I trust anymore.

This is the first Ircha Gaming Video that I have watched in awhile. Not because she is not the BEST SWITCH REVIEWER EVER (SHE IS). But because every Ircha Gaming recommendation finds its way into my library (much to the dismay of my wallet). lol This game will definitely be bought for the Children's Hospital regardless. I'm not blown away by the graphics, this is 2021 and the Switch is far more capable than what I've seen here. The blocky roads, hardly any grassy vegetation. The soft look. If you look at the Pokemon games they are a lot more polished visually, so the Switch can handle lush looking games.
I feel the same about everything you said. So many reviewer are kinda hating on it. I like it a lot. I also wanted Clements to be a marriage candidate.
I think if they allowed people to put the makers into buildings we wouldn’t mind them so much 🤣 That said, I’m really looking forward to getting my copy on Friday! BTW I don’t know if you know Littlewood, but I feel like you’d enjoy it and it’s coming out on switch for Europe tomorrow.
@@ircha I’m playing Littlewood right now, and I think you’ll love it! The gameplay loop is addictive; there’s always a handful of little goals I’m working towards. The NPC dialogue is super wholesome, too.

I've had this game on preorder for about a month now so it's already been pre downloaded to my switch which is extremely frustrating because I WANT TO PLAAAAYYY 🙈 I'm not going to lie, I've had moments where I've wondered if I wasted money on it since I purchased the season pass as well but thanks to you, my fears have diminished. Friday can't come soon enough!!

Yes, I love the game, I been a fan of the Bokujou saga since childhood, and the only thing that bothers me in this game is the lack of portrait, even the Doraemon story of seasons has portrait u-u.

My game should be here either today or tomorrow. I am so excited. I absolutely adore Friends of Mineral Town and the Pioneers of Olive Town takes all the Fomt aspects and adds some SDV concepts. I am so freaking excited.
I loveeeeee that you said everything good, amazing, not so good, and bad of the game, this is the best review I have seen so far, I think all of the negative comments surrounding this game even though they have a point was so exaggerated, I am so glad I finally see someone that has a critic opinion and appreciates the good things, keep it up!
The negativity is well deserved the game has piss poor frame rate at to times and the load time can also be bad.People should know about this before they buy the game.

Yeah the makers is the place @Marvelous needs to patch -- why cant a maker just be prepped to make multiple items? You shouldn't have to craft 10 different machine for type of item. just 1 machine that will make 10 if enough is put in. Its an odd choice Ive heard literally zero positives about. no one likes it.
@@squidracerX they should've been made so you can highlight the item you want to process in the tool bar and press the Y button for it to start working instead of opening the menu to select the item.
I just bought Story of Seasons Doraemon and Friends of Mineral Town and then found out about this. It doesn't sound like a "OMG I need it now" but I'll definitely get it once I am done with the two I just got. I love that the art style is more similar to the Doraemon one because that one looked gorgeous.
Mineral Town is so much fun. I didn't play the original but this game is pretty good for not having a lot of events. You'll constantly be busy all day. Only thing I dislike is how dark it gets at "night" Why is night 6pm for.
I played all three; story of seasons Doraemon, FoMT and the PoOT and nobody is asking, but here are some of my personal thoughts:
1. FoMT is really just a remake. It's the OG harvestmoon but better executed gameplay and updated stuff here and there - but it was just an OK game for me. It was fairly easy, hardly challenging and there was not much to do. But I really liked how they have more ores in the mines hahahaha
2. SoS Doraemon. This game is just 🥺💖 The music, watercolor graphics and everything about this game gives you the nostalgic feeling. There was an actual storyline to follow which requires you to advance your farm also. The gameplay is just so-so, harder farming simulation, but overall is an exciting game since the story keep on advancing and they have a lot of side stories going on also.
3. SoS PoOT. I am having mixed feelings towards this game. This game is like Stardew valley with a bit of rune factory then name it Story of Seasons 🤣 I've played the game for 5 hours only and I am on 15th of spring, overall game is good, but I am not sure whether I like this game or not hahaha
The UI/HUD looks very cute and love the theme it has with it's wooden background or the notepad. it looks like the intro scene for the "typical and basic farming sim story" the cutscene snippet looks very cute. That kinda sucks that there is repetitive dialogue, hopefully if they do provide updates, that the dialogue pool for the characters can expand. Cleaning up a massive farm, yeah it certainly feels a bit like Stardew and even Animal Crossing to offer some additional comparison, which is certainly a rewarding experience to clean the land and prep it for further things, for farming, paths, etc.
PET SHOP! I am sold lol. I love the subtle pause after Nupi, I couldn't tell if it was a sort of "I almost forgot the 3rd Cat's name" or "I feel silly for this name, but I will tell you any way". I do have to ask, why "Tom&Jerry"? I am interested in that answer.
Inventory System... the bane of every gamer lol. Very helpful advice for sure. If I pick this up I am certainly going to make it a priority.
The camera feature is pretty interesting, especially the whole loading screens aspect of it.
How quickly did you make it to get the Orichalcum tools, that you showed off in the video? You certainly did a lot of grinding to make them for sure. Makers sound like a great idea for the series, but yeah would be nice to consolidate them down into a basic group, but you did an interesting idea to group the makers in different sections.
I enjoy creating the land to my own liking, the pathways and such sound like a good way to avoid so much of the random clutter spawns you mentioned. The fishing kinda looks like it has a Stardew mechanic. You are big into the food section, I remember back in Genshin you were always looking for the recipes and ingredients to make at least 1 of every dish.
I love the pseudo-chibi look for this game. the style and design is something I could get into with this game. Let's hope the lag issue will get fixed soon, I know that was something you were mentioning to us before this video was complete.
For the Music portion, reminds me of your previous video where you mentioned that there should be more variety, because I agree, the same music for a long period of time would either drive me mad, or just mute it.
Hi Ircha awesome video as always. I couldn't play this game more than two days before I stopped and quit because I hate timers. I want to relax in games I play and not race against a clock. Games like this should be real time like Animal Crossing.
If i think about any game now I watch your reviews. Our tastes line up so darn closely that anytime I have a gripe with a game it's something you mention, anything I love you mention... Very helpful review as always! The amount of makers and the loading times make this game a pass for me right now. Hopefully the developers will fix it but I’ve vowed to stop buying unfinished games that rely on patches. That being said, I always love and appreciate your reviews! Things that stopped me from buying this game:
-The unnecessary amount of makers taking space in the farm
-Boring characters with barely anything to say
-Missing old beloved festivals
-No character portraits
-The new horrible design of the harvest sprites
Lol those are literally all of the issues I have with the game and I did buy it. It's still fun but I hold Story of Seasons to a higher standard than just being mediocre...And that's what it is currently... Mediocre. The characters being boring with nothing to say is bang on. You walk around town and all they can say is "hello". Lol. Compared with Trio of Towns or the original SOS this is a travesty... 😭

Can't wait for this. Mineral Town is fun but it's a lot more simple than I would like. I miss harvest festivals and cooking contests. And it's usually your grandfather or father. Weird. Then again better than Story of Seasons for the 3DS. You answered an ad to get your farm.

I believe the developers said they are planning to patch the frame rate and if I'm not mistaken they mentioned some thing about the makers. I believe they are gonna combine some of them.... I may be wrong about the makers, but I am pretty sure I read that some where .

One thing to add on the music, I did notice a radio in your tent / perhaps it stays with you when you upgrade to a house? But maybe that's a hint to the fact that they are going to add more music that we will be able to change? Sort of like Harvest Moon a wonderful Life
From my knowledge, the radio only tells you the weather for day that you are on and the following two days.

Reminds me of Portia a lot, been waiting for awhile for your videos! But at the same time, every time I watch your videos, I always have the urge to buy the game. It would be cool if you can start a let's play series, I would be stoked if you do~
The characters are soooooo boring. I expected more than this. Shouldn't have bought this at full price and instead just wait for a sale. Is like the story and romance just get worse with each new release. Plus there is nothing mysterious or any fun things to do. I wish they actually bother to put more content into a town with some hidden mysteries instead of such dull characters. Even fishing is boring as hell. The characters talk so less that i don't know why i even bother to interact with them.
Sameeeeee!!!! They are apparently going to patch this but I really don't think any patch can really fix such a horribly written game... They would need to completely recreate all of the characters dialogue. They are better off just discounting it to 20 bucks and starting to work on a new title that is more in line with what we expect from Marvelous farming sims..
My favorite random detail, if you go to a parent's room, you can see that they had a baby photo of their son/daughter, but in the case of Jack, his grandparents have his photo :3.
I really love the game, never experience the lag issue, also I read somewhere that they are making changes and updates to the game, so I hope they keep improving the game (I don't think they gonna add portrait but who knows q-q). The little town was also an impact, cuz previews games have big places to explore, I read that there is one DLC that adds an island, don't know if is true o-o.

This is a really good review! I’ve been recommended Story of seasons quite a lot. I love harvest moon and rune factory, but after playing harvest moon + a lot of hours on ACNH I wasn’t too excited to get another farming game. Now I’m starting to see how this story of seasons game is it’s own game. Am pretty excited to get it now! Put it on my wishlist. :D

Yay! I really look forward to play this on Friday! As far as I know the devs already promised to release an update soon to both optimize the loading screens and the makers. Also there will be dlc available which will add new areas, clothes and even new bachelors throughout the year. Also apparently there is a unicorn mount and a wolf mount to unlock, how cool is that?!
I agree with you Ircha! I am really enjoying this game and I as well have been a fan of Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons since I was a kid playing the original SNES harvest moon. My biggest complaint as well is the small world to explore and the clutter/mess that the makers have on the farm. With such a nice looking game, its such a shame they limit how much we can explore the world. Cant wait until the new DLC content with the new zones comes out.

I'm really surprised you didn't talk about how boring all the characters are... No one has anything to say in this game!!! No one has any personality. They are all like lifeless zombies. The farming is decent but that grid system is awful. Until you upgrade your tools you are stuck chopping/hitting one item at a time and I can't tell you how many times I hit air trying to get my character to chop a tree....
To top that all off, the town is tiny, there are no hidden areas or anything interesting to do. The festivals are barely there and those that I have seen so far were just a damn cut scene...
And then we have the performance issues... Holy hell the frame rate SUCKS when you start putting all those ugly makers all over your farm. You can't even walk through your farm without the game looking like it's having a Coronary Ambolism.
Marvelous should be ashamed of themselves releasing this under the story of seasons name... I am surprised you as a reviewer, didn't touch upon ANY of those things. It's almost like you didn't want to offend the company who gave you a free review code. You really disappointed me with this review. You didn't have to say you hated the game, but you could have been honest and told us the weak points as well as the good ones.
True. I was a bit surprised that none of those points were touched on. She's honest with how bad the Natsume games are and this game has had some horrible reception from both the Japanese playbase, some NA players who bought a japanese copy and gave their first impressions, other early review sites, and currently STILL from players as the game got in NA hands and even the devs are reaching out and acknowledging these concerns in the form of patches. So why not be honest about any of that? Once the Japanese concerns about the game came out, I decided to hold off on preordering and when more things kept being brought out. I withheld release day purchase altogether.
I love the farming genre so I'll still eventually get it, preferably on sale and after all the patches that the devs have in mind. Like they mentioned touching up on the dialogue so I would rather wait to actually experience that change rather than play, get all the heart events with the boring dialogue and then have to restart to enjoy the fresh, new dialogue. Same with the maker update and whatever else the devs have in mind to address some of the complaints. I much rather play this game in a complete state, not in some frankenstein patch work.
I'm also not a fan of the season pass being drawn out till August. Even if this game didn't have the problems it did, I would likely play this game till around May before slowly down and putting it on the back burner for a while. I would not be able to see myself continuously playing this game from March till August. So it's another incentive for me to wait for everything.
I recently bought RF4S and even brought out my old 3ds and played Trio a bit. I got the game way late so I only ever got to year 2 before I began to focus more on my Switch games. So I'm not in any rush to purchase this game, nor do I feel itching to play.
@@AnbuPrincess Lol, I could have written your response myself, I agree with you THAT much.. Even down to bringing out my old 3DS to play Trio of Towns again lmao. I have been playing RF4S for months now and it's hands down one of my favourites game of all time. There is just so much to do in it, the dialogue is literally different from every single character, every single day. It's absolutely wild. The script for that game must be as long as some Stephen King novels lol. And I know it's not very fair to compare SOS PoOT to Rune Factory but... It kinda is? Lol. They are both farming sims.. Just because RF has the rpg monster fighting element, doesn't mean the social aspect (like villagers and marriage candidates) can't be compared. They have the exact same mechanic... But! Even if I say okay, I won't compare it to Rune Factory, I will compare it to previous SOS titles, it STILL falls extremely short.
It's like PoOT has an identity crisis. It doesn't know if it wants to be Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon (from earlier days), My Time at Portia, Pokemon (lol???) or just Story of Seasons... It's completely all over the place and takes little bits and parts out of all of those games but doesn't do any of them perfectly. The farming aspect of the game is decent, but they had to ruin it with those awful makers and customization that could have been developed by a 6 year old... The paths and awful grid system... Omg. I just can't lol.
I purchased it day one because I thought they would fix many of the issues before NA release... I also didn't know exactly how terrible the dialogue and characters are... Most reviewers and streamers didn't show the social aspect too much (and now I know why...). If the issue was just one or two quality of life things, I wouldn't have minded at all... But the issues the game currently has, is 100% game breaking for me. I play farming life sims majorly for the social aspect and farming as a secondary reason. If no one has any personality, to a point where I don't even care to go to the town to talk to anyone, I really don't see the point in playing.
I am debating whether I want to return my game for a full refund (I got the Deluxe edition with the plushie and cloth poster which cost me a whooping $90 here in Canada) and just wait to buy it when it goes on sale one day... Or just keep it and not play it until August when all the dlc is already out and most problems were fixed (eventhough we don't even know if they will really be fixed by then).. I am leaning towards full refund but I hate returning games I already opened... Even if it's for a good reason. I rarely ever do it unless there are so many problems that I feel like I got duped buying the game (like in this case). They should have never released it in this state... The reception from the Japanese players should have really got their asses in gear to fix it before Western and European release dates..
Its all just so disheartening and its even more disheartening to see reviewers I respected sell their soul for money and game review keys... That's the only reason I could come up with as to why Ircha didn't mention any of the negative things in this game... I'll stick to ACG Reviews from now on. The only person I trust anymore.

I'm not blown away by the graphics, this is 2021 and the Switch is far more capable than what I've seen here. The blocky roads, hardly any grassy vegetation. The soft look. If you look at the Pokemon games they are a lot more polished visually, so the Switch can handle lush looking games.
