- Hello everyone,
Today, I will show you how I made a box for my father’s 60th birthday, this special box is locked with a miniature sword. The box contains a book, one chapter from Don Quixote visiting a printing shop.
My father and I have a private press called Even Hoshen specializing in creating books hand-bound in limited editions, accompanied by original works of art.
In this video, I am showing the process of designing and creating a box, from Idea to execution. You are welcome to join me in this wonderful journey to the world of books.
If you want to learn Bookbinding you are welcome to take my Skillshare classes.
I will take you step-by-step through the binding process with clear explanations and detailed shots to help you create your own special binding.

I would cry about the craftsmanship you have. You have pronounced don quijote perfectly by the way.
Thank you for your kind words 🙏
Wonderful to watch your craftsmanship. Your joy in precision is contagious.
👏
Thank you Teresa for watching, I do enjoy the process and precision and I’m happy it reflects in my videos ❤️
I love this project. I also like the explanation of the press. I have always been fascinated with this skilled form of art. I look forward to seeing more videos. Thank you.
Thank you for appreciating this form of art. This project is very special to me as it was made for my father. I have many more to share thank you for being here
"If you like it" - what? This is off-the-scale-fabulous!!!! What stunning skills and workmanship you gift into our nascent and/or developing book-binding and box-making lives. I am on the hunt for steel bars for the same reason you love your golden weights. They are beautiful to see and observe in the processes when they are needed. Thank you very much.
Thank you, this is one of my favorite creations.
My father was so thrilled and excited, it was a complete surprise for him.
Thank you 🙏
Glad you are here!
Beautiful and exquisite work, superbly executed, Bravo
Thank you Steve, glad you enjoyed the video and the result 🙏
Beautiful work. Love the needle trick for placing materials, will be incorporating that into my own workflow :)
Glad to hear that! Thank you for watching 🙏
Kudos on pronouncing Cervantes' name _almost_ perfectly. I know several university profesor dudes who claim to be "experts" on his work, yet mangle his name by pronouncing it as if it were written in modern English. You are a whole level above those.
Thank you, I’m happy to hear that! Feel much better with my pronunciation 🙏
Tu trabajo es increíble. Muchas gracias por compartir y mostrar un poco más, y al igual explicarlo. Saludos
Gracias 🙏
Glad you are here…
Que precioso trabajo.
Muchas gracias por compartir esas maravillas. ❤
Thank you for watching and for being here ❤️
Ido, thanks so much for a couple of brilliant techniques, the needle positioning trick, a very good idea, just got to find some suitable fine needles with a handle here in the uk, but I particularly like how you put that small cut in when turning in the bookcloth on the boards, I like so many have just been pushing the small overlap triangle forward , not bad and I get really good results , but your method is so much better , an even sharper result. Many thanks for the great ideas !
Thank you Steve, I’m glad you picked up some new tricks, more to come…
Thank you for being here 🙏
Beautiful!
❤️
I really enjoyed watching this video. 😊 The video work matched the craftsmanship perfectly and your calm voice and explanations put it on an even higher level. Thank you for sharing this video with us.

Ido, could you please remind me what material your weights are made of? Do you recommend a particular dimension for the thickness and length of the weights? Thank you. Beautiful video.
Hi, they are made of Brass, I think the 2 by 2 cm I use the most.
I would recommend 20 or 25 cm length for starters.
Try to find leftovers in a metal shop
Hope that helps
