AKP Dealt Serious Blows Against Islam

I do not know Mr. Baykal’s opinion or the party’s stance, but as far as I can see, there is a collaboration at play. In essence, the AK Party has dealt serious blows to Islam. These blows have been concealed through mutual political maneuvers.
Can you imagine? I cannot recall the exact article number right now, but the content of the law is as follows: In this new regulation, children under the age of 15 who attend Quranic or religious education classes, as well as those who provide such education-whether by opening a teaching facility or conducting lessons-face up to one year in prison. Initially, they set this punishment at three years, then reduced it to one year as if it were a concession.
Even in the past, during the early years of the Republic-after the late Atatürk-when even the gendarmerie monitored Quran education, there was never a single day of legal punishment for learning the Quran. Yes, there was political pressure, but no legal sanction. Now, for the first time, this government has introduced such a penalty.
If the Republican People's Party (CHP) had truly stood for democracy, they would have said, “Why are you preventing these children from learning their religion? A person who does not learn their religion is more likely to become a sadist, a thief, or corrupt…” Instead of making this argument and presenting a justification, they have remained silent.
Furthermore, in various matters-such as inserting the term "place of worship" into the Zoning Law-this government has facilitated the opening of 36,000 churches, allowing church houses to be established in apartment buildings or individual residences. A certain institution’s leader-if I remember correctly, the chairman of the Religious Officials Association, or was it the head of Diyanet-Sen?-lamented, saying, “40,000 of our young people have converted to Christianity.”
While this reality is evident, claiming that there are "radical activities" is merely an attempt to conceal the truth. Both sides are playing a game; one side is pretending to exist to cover up the actions of the other. As you know, both of them take ideological guidance from certain institutions and powers. This is quite natural.
Hopefully, our nation will see through all these political maneuvers and choose what is truly best for itself.
