The way Derrick handled things during the heist sold me on the Blood Brothers-choice; he actually cared a bit for the victims and the casualties in the bank, and wanted things to go smoothly. While Francis wouldn't think another second of stomping down those who oppose him. Even as a drug-riddled wreck, he still has a semblance of integrity, and that's... almost commendable.
I agree, he handled the bank heist well and I liked that he actually cared about them. Derrick wasn't a bad person he just made some bad decisions. I also spared Derrick during blood brothers and shot Francis.
You know it's funny how the bank robbery was never mentioned or planned out with Niko beforehand and the all just winged it and succeeded. Then next game, ever heist is planned out to a T, with a nerdy hacker genius having to be there to help out.
I like to think this heist was reason the ones in 5 are a lot more complicated and thought out. It kind of makes sense as bank robberies were an easy lick before the 2000s.
By that point he just got back from Ireland. But considering he was born and raised in New York/Liberty City, it probably didn't take him long to code-switch back to his American accent.

My girlfriend is from Nigeria, when we first met I thought she grew up in the U.S. But whenever she’s talking with her family, when something annoys her, or when she finds something amusing, she’ll go back into her Nigerian accent. I giggle inside every time that happens.
Derrick is easily one of my most favorite characters from GTA. He was truly dedicated to everything he did, be it the cause in Ireland, and also avoiding civilian casualties during the bank heist. He wasn't necessarily a bad person, the only bad things about him were snitching on his friends in order to avoid doing jail time and his drug addiction. He's the most compassionate brother in the family. Derrick's VERY underrated. He deserves waaaay more recognition. He's my most favorite McReary, second is Packie.

Yeah, you should've done Francis, not Derrick. Both Playboy and Francis did blackmail Niko into killing Dwayne and Derrick, but Dwayne and Derrick never ordered Niko to kill Playboy and Francis because Dwayne and Derrick had more morals than Playboy and Francis and Niko makes his own decisions whether to decide: Good morals or bad morals.
The first time that i did the Mission, i was wondering who kill, so i did a reason, Kill a Crooked Cop (for then use him), or kill a Drug Addict with a miserable life, with no exchange. This is why i love the choses that the game gave to you, this one is complicated cuz whatever thing you do is wrong. GTA 4 is the best game i ever played, Fuck...
A lot of the choices in this game don't matter, but this one really does. Even if you shoot Francis, Derrick still dies of an overdose. (Reason why you cannot call him)

I'm going to get a lot of hate but Derrick was the brother I hated the most. He is a junkie, a traitor, a snitch and a mess, I honestly see no redeeming qualities in him. Fracnis is crooked and hypocritical but at least he does something useful for the community and he is probably the only son who keeps his mother happy with his career choice. Gerry is the man, I think he is basically like the father figure for everyone in the family, now that their actual father has died, and I'm sure he is just like his father was minus drunken abuse. Packie is a fun guy and a good friend. Unfortunately, Derrick is doomed, by himself and his choices, so it was only a matter of time.

I don't really think there was supposed to be a flat-out "good" choice. Neither Derrick nor Francis are exactly what would constitute as "good people", and it's more of a matter of who you end up relating to the most. Derrick was a complete mess with how he treated his body and others in his past. He sold out his old compatriots and just wants it all to be done so he can take his drugs in peace, and is in such bad of shape that he isn't even a consideration for taking care of Packie's mom if Kate dies. Francis was a self-righteous hypocrite who is more than willing to assassinate people who would give him a bad name, and was mostly implied just to "clean up the streets" just for the fame and recognition he'd get to it, rather than because he actually thought it'd make peoples' lives better. The biggest difference is that Francis directly intimidates Niko, and tries to essentially blackmail him into doing whatever it is he needs done that the regular LCPD can't do, while Niko helps Derrick mostly out of pity for what he has become. This is completely supported by how Niko was rewarded for who he chose to kill; killing Francis had no material upside to it. He didn't get a single dime for choosing Derrick over Francis, just any sense of satisfaction he'd get out of offing someone who tried to bully him. Francis obviously has the resources necessary to reimburse Niko for what he had done, and saw Derrick as nothing but a disgrace to his name, so he thought just to sever the link to him, no matter the consequences of how his greater family would feel about Derrick's death. Point being, none of them are really good people when you look at it; the difference is that Francis is so crooked he could swallow nails and spit out corkscrews, but because he's gunning for police chief, he could do a lot of good for the average person in Liberty City, especially considering the context of The Lost-AoD gang wars and the conflicts between the Rascalov Mafiya and The Commission. Derrick's more sympathizable, and it's because he's been laid so low but still treats Niko with some modicum of respect unlike the condescending, self-righteous sneering that always comes from Francis' mouth, he doesn't look as bad, even if his actions don't support that he's necessarily a better person.
Storywise I disagree. In GTA V the heists were planned better and they usually had a reason why they did the heists. In GTA IV they just ran trough the city killing hundreds of cops, only for 500k. It felt unrealistic, unplanned and an overall overkill for a small prize. I like gunplay in GTA V more due to the variety of the weapons and realistic damage output, but GTA IV has far better physics which makes the overall gameplay superior to V.
Honestly, didn’t mind taking out people for Derrick until Aiden. Derrick ratted on him first so he owed him no loyalty, and he had him killed just to save his sorry ass.
It's been discussed dozens of times, but here are MY reasons to kill Francis instead of Derrick: 1) Francis constantly threatened and blackmailed Nicko, while Derrick treated him with respect. 2) It seemed like their family would miss Derrick more. 3) When these two said, that they are not saint, Derrick seemed to be more sincere and repentant. 4) One crooked cop seemed to be worse for a society, than one junky crook. Especially if Francis would have become a commissioner.

On a final note, in the funeral mission when Derrick is killed and the funeral gets shot up, Francis at least protects his mother and drives her away from the danger. In the same mission when Francis is killed and the funeral gets shot up, some stranger drives his mother away from the danger. Derrick was nowhere to be found. He probably ran away. Derrick may seem noble on the outside. But when the chips are down, he will always save himself first. For him, it's all about saving his own ass and scoring his next fix, no matter who he has to betray or kill to do it.
The reason I chose Derrick is because he was just going mad and was always paranoid. Death set him free. And I enjoy the fact that Francis has to live with the fact that he hired a hitman to kill his own brother.
Cause derrick dies regardless even if you kill Francis, It is mentioned by packie in GTA 5 that derrick is dead possibly due to drug or alcohol overdose.(or if killing derrick is the canon choice.)
I used a cop cheat to make the heist interesting. Also don't use a RPG on the Things at the stairs because they will glitch out and will kill either Derrick or Packie

@Barone niko killing francis actually makes sense, given his reaction on "blood brothers" (by telling francis to phak off and i will hit who im aiming at), and the fact he would sit beside derrick but not on francis on "undertaker" (on this mission, if you kill francis, only mrs. Mcreary is the only one who miss him).

I just looked, according to a very brief look at Wikipedia. PE-4 (Plastic Explosive No. 4) is an explosive that's like C-4 but not quite the same. It's used by the British Military. So it's essentially British C-4. Couldn't tell you the difference but Derrick's right to insist it's different.
Derrick did have friends he had adone Omally who was 49 but no longer a friend and he dies Sligo bucky who was 51.5 but on longer a friend but he dies Niko was 30.5 And probably more Derrick was actually 54
I like Derrick better but from Niko's perspective I'd say Derrick should go. If you like a miserable man with regrets about his life and dislike crooked cop, sure, knock Francis's dome off we go. However, Derrick's a snitch. He would betray anyone for junk and to avoid doing time. In fact, Niko himself has an intense loathing for snitches. People often cite how Derrick and Dwayne are the ones who felt the danger and ask Niko to look out for them rather than telling him to off someone on their behalf (Playboy X and Francis) but this point often overlooked how Niko refused to kill Dwayne at first because Playboy X is betraying Dwayne. I think Niko learned his lesson after offing Faustin on behalf of Dimitri. Now Francis is no saint but he is straight with Niko when asking him to do the dirty work. Plus we can blackmail him back at the end so that's that for revenge.
As much as I like Derrick, I still chose to kill him. The guy is in his 50s and has all these problems. And despite him talking about making things right, I can’t help but notice all the stories where he does betray people to save himself. Francis is a bastard, but at least he’s honest with you about it, plus you get something out of it. Also, in GTA 5, Packie mentions Derrick is dead either way, which is 5 years after GTA 4, so even if you spare him he dies not long after anyway.

I'm going to get a lot of hate but Derrick was the brother I hated the most. He is a junkie, a traitor, a snitch and a mess, I honestly see no redeeming qualities in him. Fracnis is crooked and hypocritical but at least he does something useful for the community and he is probably the only son who keeps his mother happy with his career choice. Gerry is the man, I think he is basically like the father figure for everyone in the family, now that their actual father has died, and I'm sure he is just like his father was minus drunken abuse. Packie is a fun guy and a good friend. Unfortunately, Derrick is doomed, by himself and his choices, so it was only a matter of time.
FlymanMS honestly Francis is a hypocrite and alot of GTA players hate him. But honestly outside of him being a crooked cop. When you look at the other people he killed they were all scumbags. The dealer was going to kill niko anyways. When you think of it Francis does good things.
I don't really think there was supposed to be a flat-out "good" choice. Neither Derrick nor Francis are exactly what would constitute as "good people", and it's more of a matter of who you end up relating to the most. Derrick was a complete mess with how he treated his body and others in his past. He sold out his old compatriots and just wants it all to be done so he can take his drugs in peace, and is in such bad of shape that he isn't even a consideration for taking care of Packie's mom if Kate dies. Francis was a self-righteous hypocrite who is more than willing to assassinate people who would give him a bad name, and was mostly implied just to "clean up the streets" just for the fame and recognition he'd get to it, rather than because he actually thought it'd make peoples' lives better.
The biggest difference is that Francis directly intimidates Niko, and tries to essentially blackmail him into doing whatever it is he needs done that the regular LCPD can't do, while Niko helps Derrick mostly out of pity for what he has become. This is completely supported by how Niko was rewarded for who he chose to kill; killing Francis had no material upside to it. He didn't get a single dime for choosing Derrick over Francis, just any sense of satisfaction he'd get out of offing someone who tried to bully him. Francis obviously has the resources necessary to reimburse Niko for what he had done, and saw Derrick as nothing but a disgrace to his name, so he thought just to sever the link to him, no matter the consequences of how his greater family would feel about Derrick's death.
Point being, none of them are really good people when you look at it; the difference is that Francis is so crooked he could swallow nails and spit out corkscrews, but because he's gunning for police chief, he could do a lot of good for the average person in Liberty City, especially considering the context of The Lost-AoD gang wars and the conflicts between the Rascalov Mafiya and The Commission. Derrick's more sympathizable, and it's because he's been laid so low but still treats Niko with some modicum of respect unlike the condescending, self-righteous sneering that always comes from Francis' mouth, he doesn't look as bad, even if his actions don't support that he's necessarily a better person.

The bank heist in GTA IV was better than all the GTA V heists combined. This is mainly due to the better gunplay, physics and story surrounding it.
Storywise I disagree. In GTA V the heists were planned better and they usually had a reason why they did the heists.
In GTA IV they just ran trough the city killing hundreds of cops, only for 500k. It felt unrealistic, unplanned and an overall overkill for a small prize.
I like gunplay in GTA V more due to the variety of the weapons and realistic damage output, but GTA IV has far better physics which makes the overall gameplay superior to V.

Honestly, didn’t mind taking out people for Derrick until Aiden. Derrick ratted on him first so he owed him no loyalty, and he had him killed just to save his sorry ass.
It's been discussed dozens of times, but here are MY reasons to kill Francis instead of Derrick:
1) Francis constantly threatened and blackmailed Nicko, while Derrick treated him with respect.
2) It seemed like their family would miss Derrick more.
3) When these two said, that they are not saint, Derrick seemed to be more sincere and repentant.
4) One crooked cop seemed to be worse for a society, than one junky crook. Especially if Francis would have become a commissioner.
I like how if you kill Francis, Derrick just gets up and calmly walks away like its no big deal

On a final note, in the funeral mission when Derrick is killed and the funeral gets shot up, Francis at least protects his mother and drives her away from the danger. In the same mission when Francis is killed and the funeral gets shot up, some stranger drives his mother away from the danger. Derrick was nowhere to be found. He probably ran away. Derrick may seem noble on the outside. But when the chips are down, he will always save himself first. For him, it's all about saving his own ass and scoring his next fix, no matter who he has to betray or kill to do it.

I used a cop cheat to make the heist interesting. Also don't use a RPG on the Things at the stairs because they will glitch out and will kill either Derrick or Packie

@Barone niko killing francis actually makes sense, given his reaction on "blood brothers" (by telling francis to phak off and i will hit who im aiming at), and the fact he would sit beside derrick but not on francis on "undertaker" (on this mission, if you kill francis, only mrs. Mcreary is the only one who miss him).
@Barone yeah derrick is still a better person than francis, even though he was a snitch (he actually regret doing that even though he still silenced his old pals, unlike francis who was so deluded that he thinks he's a good person). there are people who actually thought that derrick's worse cuz he's a rat. If that's true, then steve haines is a better person than michael cuz he's a rat and a criminal while haines is fed.
@Barone also, kiki's ability stays after playing the story. Which is better than francis' ability (it disappears after finishing the main storyline).

I just looked, according to a very brief look at Wikipedia. PE-4 (Plastic Explosive No. 4) is an explosive that's like C-4 but not quite the same. It's used by the British Military. So it's essentially British C-4.

I like Derrick better but from Niko's perspective I'd say Derrick should go. If you like a miserable man with regrets about his life and dislike crooked cop, sure, knock Francis's dome off we go. However, Derrick's a snitch. He would betray anyone for junk and to avoid doing time. In fact, Niko himself has an intense loathing for snitches. People often cite how Derrick and Dwayne are the ones who felt the danger and ask Niko to look out for them rather than telling him to off someone on their behalf (Playboy X and Francis) but this point often overlooked how Niko refused to kill Dwayne at first because Playboy X is betraying Dwayne. I think Niko learned his lesson after offing Faustin on behalf of Dimitri. Now Francis is no saint but he is straight with Niko when asking him to do the dirty work. Plus we can blackmail him back at the end so that's that for revenge.
BTW on gta v during the paleto bay heist if u bring packie along he will mention dereck and niko

As much as I like Derrick, I still chose to kill him. The guy is in his 50s and has all these problems. And despite him talking about making things right, I can’t help but notice all the stories where he does betray people to save himself. Francis is a bastard, but at least he’s honest with you about it, plus you get something out of it. Also, in GTA 5, Packie mentions Derrick is dead either way, which is 5 years after GTA 4, so even if you spare him he dies not long after anyway.
