Tribute to Mt Kinabalu Guide and Friend: Robbi Sapinggi (1984-2015)

- Today we heard the tragic news that Robbi Sapinggi, our dear friend and Mt Kinabalu mountain guide, passed away due to injuries sustained in the Mt Kinabalu earthquake, June 5th, 2015.
Robbi has been part of our past four Expedition Mt Kinabalu climbs, that raise global awareness for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Robbi is featured in our documentary "Dusty's Trail: Summit of Borneo", and this is an excerpt from the film.
Robbi had so much compassion and kindness and he cared about people. He always put the needs of others before himself. He was a Malaysian hero.
Robbi will be sadly missed by all who shared the Mt Kinabalu trails with him.

I am glad I hv the opportunity to watch this Hero here. This Dusty's Trail is priceless to Robbie's family and Sabah Parks. A footage that spoke about the Man when he was in service. He will remain alive among Kinabalu, we will feel his presence. He will take care of the safety of all. Many this beautiful soul rest in peace.

Utk mendiang Robbie sapinggi dan malim2 gunung yg terkorban jasa kamu tidak terbalas kerana kamu adalah wira utk rakyat sabah dan malaysia kerana pengorbanan yg tidak ternilai walaupun sudah cedera parah masi lagi membantu pendaki2 utk menyelamatkan nyawa mereka sehingga menghembuskan nafas terakhir. Pengorbanan yang tidak boleh dibalas hanya doa yang dapat kami berikan semoga damai roh kamu disana.

Dude. Ive met u before. On 31st jan 2015. I was climbing up with my gf n yet shes climbing waaay to fast n thanks to u man. When i didnt know where she is u suddenly came n tell me shes not too far from me. Or else i might die cuz shes the one who keeps all the food n drink. Thank u brother. U r truly a hero for us sabahan here and a very friendly guy. RIP Rubbi Sapinggi.

Thanks for uploading this in rememberance of Robbi. His dedication represents all the people of kundasang and the Mt KK Local Guide. I believe you know how difficult for them to earn a living. I would like to suggest a foundation for the local Mt KK Local Guide to build their livelihood, for their efforts and dedication and of course to build what was destroyed. Not sure where to start, assistance is much appreciated. The local guides don't earn as much, they don't have benefit and welfare of full time goverment staff and believe this would help them rebuild the beautiful Mr Kinabalu.
