Somehow I never realised that the secret stages could be the work of Bowser Jr., and that is the reason why they’re so janky and mismatched. That’s a clever theory.
That "incorrect buzzer" and Yoshi sound also plays if you give a Yoshi egg the wrong fruit. What's funny is that if you just sit the wrong type of fruit next to the Yoshi egg, the sound keeps on constantly playing on loop, and won't go away or become quieter even if Mario is across the map, until you remove the fruit or it despawns
Yoshi somehow got his hands on a cell phone inside that egg and is constantly telling Mario how offended he is that Mario would even consider giving him something other than exactly what he asked for
I never knew that Pinna Park was planned to be part of the hub world, now I'm theorizing that the pianta-shaped tree was going to be the warp for Pianta Village, and the big shell in the pool was meant for Noki Bay? The warp points correlate pretty well thematically, and the actual locations warp locations in game for those levels feel somewhat out of place compared to the rest. Both of these stages are unlocked late in the game, which would still be the case if they were accessed through Pinna Park. However, they ARE pointing east, which immature sunflowers do. -You can control Yoshi's head with Mario Cam if you jump off of him while his tongue's out. Also you can spray NPCs with Yoshi while talking to them. Also Yoshi's tongue gets shorter the closer you get the the wicker baskets. If you look at Shadow Mario before entering the park, you can just barely see he's standing on a block because the floor in there is intangible.
That Yoshi making things float glitch also can be applied to the Cataquacks in Gelato Beach. If you use his tongue but ground pound at just the right time, you'll leave the Cataquack suspended in midair. It was pretty fun to do just messing around.

If babies are brought by the stork to parents, that means Peach's reaction is one of "shit, did what me and Bowser did when Mario was stuck in World 5 count as, ahem, 'parental' enough to get a stork visit?" After all, how many times does Peach need to be "kidnapped" before Mario begins to suspect she's just having an affair?
E Gadd inventing both the magic brush and FLUDD, giving the former to Bowser Jr and leaving the latter to be found by Mario, sounds a lot like an arms dealer arming both sides of a conflict. Except arms dealers get paid, and E Gadd is just giving his inventions away. Are they all prototypes and he just hands them out to whoever will take them in order to test them? Or does E Gadd just like chaos? It's certainly not unfathomable to think of him as a mad scientist.
My assumption is that E Gadd is truly just a mad genius. He didnt care who used his maniacal inventions, he just wanted them to see use. Given that his emblem is on them, it can be assumed he wanted people to know it was him who left them, which leads me to believe that somehow he wants notoriety for his inventions. Perhaps to put himself on the map with mushroom kingdom royalty? He is close with the mushroom kingdom in partners in time after all
Incredible videos. I love that you're only covering things as a fresh player would know them. Calling Shadow Mario Goopy Mario, referencing Yoshi only when the player would actually know about him... I'm excited to see the finished product. Thank you for making these videos! You're hilarious and amazing
7:00 I can give some tips, at least for the GameCube version, with it's analogue triggers. Have you ever had a rocket go on a higher trajectory than you thought it would? That's because when you start holding down R, FLUDD's nozzle twitches a bit. That little twitch that should REALLY be just an animation, actually affects the direction that the rocket fires. There is a way to not have this happen though. Simply hold down R partially, for like half a second, and then press it in all the way. Also, those strolin' stu generators painted on the walls, actually do show up in another spot. In the secret of the village underside *sudders* 2 of them can be found in a small boxed-in area half way through the level. It gets spammy pretty fast
@@psxpancake that’s the level I was talking about. It’s called “secret of the village underside” :) I’ve played this game way too much. I know if the two of them in the middle of the stage (right after you get chuckstered straight up) I didn’t know there were two others though.
12:52 Tbh I think I like the Sunshine bob-ombs more than the traditional ones, I find the screen faces adorable Sunshine's redesigns are very interesting, it's definitely either trying to make Delfino Island more exotic or just the devs experimenting with artstyle to find what sticks, either way it really makes Sunshine feel even more unique! Banger series btw, got recommended Ricco Harbor and then went back and watched Bianco Hills and this'un, looking forward to future episodes!
@@sirtalentless2548Yup, this is the official lore. Or about as official as you can get from game guides and stuff lol But it makes a lot of sense contextually so
The idea that the "secret" levels in this game are Bowser Jr's creations reminds me of his levels in Mario Maker 2's story mode. His first level is honestly kind of reminiscent of the levels here; it's a lot of empty space with enemies and obstacles placed throughout in a way that feels really weird. It's kind of cute, considering he built it after watching Bowser build a previous level and is concerned about whether he did a good job. (And he does do better with his other two levels: he builds a pretty big town for a bunch of Boom Booms, though despite his confidence you can beat it without defeating any of them, and the third level has some fairly well designed puzzles involving skipsqueaks. It also, funnily enough, uses the 3d World theme that actually looks like children's blocks.) Bowser Jr. likes making levels!
These videos are so incredible. I binged all three today and can't wait for more to be uploaded!!! Thank you so much for looking at all the tiny details! I feel like game devs put so much love into their work only for one person to see so little of that in a casual playthrough, so highlighting the features that even veteran players may not have seen in all their playthroughs is so special!!!!! Can't wait for Noki Bay!!!!!! 🐚💜☀
These are fun videos and I'm really happy I discovered your channel! Also, Strollin' Stu ARE the Isle Delfino version of goombas. The japanese name is 'Kurin' which is a mash-up of 'goomba' (Kuribō) and '-rin' which is a suffix that essentially means they're cute or goofy or goofy-cute. So they're basically cute and goofy goombas! (Sorry to anyone who actually knows Japanese as I may have butchered this explanation but I believe this is relatively correct...)
Why does Kurin remind me of something else? But that's pretty interesting idk how I didn't check the Japanese names of them yet. Bowser Jr. sure has an interesting art style lol
Well I'VE found my new playlist to loop when trying to sleep. Your voice is incredibly calming and charming to listen to, making me intrigued in a game I've never played. Love to hear someone like me who is obsessed over world building and lore that seems "not important" to most people.
I love your suggestion of the secret levels being Bowser Jr's creations. He did say he could do anything with his brush, so who's to say he didn't just paint them up?
What a fun overview of Pinna Park, this kind of stuff reminds me of why Super Mario Sunshine is one of my favorite games of all time. I'm definitely going back to watch the first two videos in this series when I have the time!
I love how Jr. is still considered the brain to Bowser's brawn. In most of his appearances following this game, he still uses countless tools and machines to combat Mario, while Bowser sticks to his own strengths.
Very underrated part of Bowser Jr. tbh. Kid's a mechanical genius. He may not always be portrayed as a tactical fighter consistently (Jr.'s Journey is one such example) but usually he does scheme and make plans more often than not. I believe it was confirmed that almost every New Super Mario Bros. game with him in it (so DS and Wii) had the kidnapping planned by Jr. with the only exception being U I think. But since Jr. was the main one controlling that ship with the massive Bowser hand I honestly don't think it's a bad headcanon.
Your videos remind me of Chuggaaconroy, it's really nice to see someone passionate about video games taking the time to go in depth to appreciate the little aspects of games. Especially considering the drama that's surrounded Chuggaaconroy recently, finding your channel has been comforting to me knowing that this kind of content is still possible. Subscribed, and looking forward to seeing more from you in the future.
The Yoshi death animation reminds me more of the way Mario disintegrates when passing through a portal. I'd rather believe that the Yoshis on Isle Delfino are subjects (victims?) of some sort of magic that prevents them from leaving the island, causing them to be teleported and reappear in an egg on land. Like how witches can't cross running water or something
I absolutely love your level break downs. These 30 to 40 minutes go by instantly as you bring so many interesting points and topics, all of that with a top tier editing and choice of musics. Speaking of music, the one used at 27:52 for the close up on the rest of the island sounds like Mario Golf to me... I wonder where it's from?
These videos are genuinely so much fun as someone who loves this particular game so much. You do so much research and diving into weird things that it's a blast to see some of these weird things uncovered. Keep it going!
If that were the case, that would mean his ability to morph into shadow mario is inherent to Bowser Jr, and not an ability granted to him by the paint brush. Or perhaps that the bandana is another magical item entirely unrelated to the paint brush despite appearing to have been drawn on by a child. I don’t personally find either of those to be more likely
It would make sense that BJ already had the bandana, cuz how else was he planning on framing Mario? The magic brush just made the whole ordeal more easy for BJ and more chaotic for the whole island.
15:59 I have a theory. Underneath Pinna Park there's a 2D drawing of a Goomba in a very similar style as those Strollin' Stu spawners. My thought is that there used to be Goomba's in Pinna Park that would've been spawned by it.
An interesting theory I've heard regarding the Sunshine Redesigns of classic enemies is that they're the result of Jr. creating them w his brush, based on some combination of inaccurately portraying and intentionally redesigning Goombas as Stus, zanier koopas, et al. I think it makes the world seem a bit smaller to imply that these weirdos don't naturally exist in it a la Alolan Pokémon Variants, but it's still fun in its own right I think.
I mean a lot of these enemies do turn into goop or some other substance upon death and I think it was mentioned in a guide somewhere that most of the enemies in the game are his creations
I've always heard the sunflowers as saying "Oh, magnificent!" I wonder if there's any way to find a cleaner audio in the files to confirm exactly what they're saying? 🤔 Also, I appreciate taking the time to focus on the baby Noki. I don't think I've ever watched any sort of play though that acknowledges how adorbs it is.
If you're using a GameCube controller to shoot Pinna Park's roller coaster bottle roxkets, you can actually pull the trigger all the way down before it clicks, and then shoot when you need to instead of pressing the trigger from its highest point down to its lowest every time you need to fire a rocket. The trigger's deep enough that the travel time from neutral position to fully pressed can impact your accuracy with the rockets. It also helps to be playing with a wired controller on GameCube through a CRT television to mitigate any kind of input lag. If you're playing on an LCD display, and with wireless controllers through the All-Stars collection, that's likely why you're having trouble. Unfortunately, it's just one if those precise timing challenges that's gotten harder with age since the hardware the game was made for is somewhat uncommon these days.
12:32 I think its because bowser jr used the paint brush to make the enemies in his own way. Thats why they look different, and why they splattered goop when you kill some of them.
Except that Petey Piranha looks fairly identical to the non paint version seen in Partners in time, and we can see that at the very least the weird looking bloopers are not paint as there are dead ones in Rico Harbor in some of the missions.
If you play through the game without saving or getting a game over all the way to noki Bay and then get a game over inside the bottle episode, then the game will start over at the airstrip, and you will have infinite hover ability and you can fly up to a secret room in the sky
Ì love how when mecha bowser appears it plays the star theme but evil. That was my favorite mission as a kid for how cool it was. Amazing vids. Im genuinely surprised how thorough this is. I'm learning new stuff about this game i didn't know having completed it multiple times. Its great, really excellent job. Excited for more!
Well, ya see, when a Koopaisano puts his spaghetti noodle into a mama-mia's ravioli, a little Junior covered in prosciutto comes out about nine months later.
Hey, I just want to say that I’ve watched a couple of your recent Sunshine videos and they are fantastic! I love this game and will always give a Sunshine video a watch. You’ve earned a like and sub from me!
Im a big particular mushroom fan (particular mushroomer as we're known) and im loving listening to your videos on the way to work! Thanks for your work!
I wonder if the japanese text refers to the Pinna Park cannon as an "exhaust port," solely because it's really funny imagining Delfino Plaza having a cannon around in case of naval invasion. Daisy Cruiser better watch out when it comes to port on Isle Delfino.
I am baffled. Every single time you question "has any player ever done this the expected way?" My answer has been yes. I have always done the things you believe no player to have ever done.
You ask "how could the Yoshis have left the island if they couldn't swim?" but I think you might've accidentally uncovered some dark lore without even realizing. If the Snoozakoopas are meant to be natural predators who hunt Yoshis by disguising as their eggs, and there are no Yoshis left in their habitat, it's possible their strategy was so effective that they drove this Delfino subspecies to extinction.
I feel that the enemies look different because bowser Jr used the paint brush to make them (Hense why they look goofy/ toy like) and why they're vulnerable to water 🤔
29:57 yoshi also makes this sound if you bring him the wrong fruit. i know because... of all the times it leave a fruit in front of the egg for him to make the sound over and over.
21:27, the only other Pianta in the game that is happy about being sprayed is the one that repairs the cannon that takes you to Pinna Island. Once he repairs the cannon though, he is no longer happy about being sprayed.
Subscribed off of this series cause this sunshine series is so well done!! And you also covered one of my favorite series of all time: sly cooper which gives me more to watch! Keep it up!
37:09 @2CPhoenix This is likely due to the fact that in the games code, the diving animation makes mario speed increase when he is going up on the Y axis, resulting in diving speed whilst going up a slope. It's like tricking the game we're continuing to slide upwards, and we only land on the ground once we've reached the top of the slope.
To aim the rockets easier, just lightly press the R button, this will prefill the rocket, then when you press the button all the way down it’s much more accurate!
Awesome to see these videos! I'm a bit late on this one, because I seriously waited until the Gelato Beach one came out first so I could view all these in their proper order (I have a bit of OCD, I know--blame me. But I respect your reasoning for doing this second, 'cause having to skip all those Yoshi sections in other levels would get pretty annoying to deal with after a while). I'm still pretty happy to have seen this, though! Something to note: I don't know if you noticed, but, if you look at the opening cutscenes for the beach section in episodes 3 and 5, they seem to be oddly switched, since the Ferris Wheel is shown to be spinning uncontrollably fast in 3 but as slow as it's supposed to in 5. Something I noticed even during my first playthrough, and it confused me at the time. A sign that this game truly was rushed! I usually did just go for the coin Shine by killing all the Swiping Stus, since there's enough of them on the beach to net you half the coins you need. And it's plenty easy enough to get the coins you need by spraying the beach. I've even gotten the 100 Shine on the beach that way before, but I usually personally prefer to gather what I need out there (usually around 80 or so) and then collect the rest in the park. I don't believe you showed the 100 Shine spawn location within the park, unless I missed it, and I'm pretty sure veteran players already know. But in case anyone doesn't and they want to, it spawns in over the Yoshi-Go-Round. Awesome vid again, and I'm excited to see what you come out with next!
10:28 I’ve been convinced for years now that Nintendo originally had a plan to turn E Gadd into a major villain pulling strings in the background of the series. But I think Sunshine’s less than stellar performance (on top of the system itself) made them drop that plan
I think I have an idea about E Gadd. It’s possible he met Jr. some time ago and saw the boy was being trained to do one thing: destroy. Think about it. A little kid being able to make his imagination real would be quite happy. E Gadd has always had a soft spot for vulnerable people, animals, and beings. He trains Luigi as a ghost buster to rescue Mario, he takes in kindly ghosts to give them a purpose and to study them. He even gave Weegee a ghost doggo. So I could see Gadd giving Jr a paintbrush to be a creative outlet to offset his need to control. The pump was a legal purchase indicated by Fludd upon activating it. The Piantas likely wanted to use it as a fire suppression tool in case of emergencies, but never used it. A case of right place/right time.
20:55 I heard almost the same thing! As a kid it was always "Oh, my [gibberish]!" and the gibberish part would change all the time. Esophagus is pretty funny!
14:58 Almost all the secret levels start with "corona_0X" inside the game files, they're repurposed levels that were supposed to be played (somehow) in Corona Mountain but now are delegated in other places. It maybe explains the children aesthetic, they were made by a kid while going up its' trail inside a volcano
the fact that you used clip from AverageTrey's 100% speedrun as an example of 1-cycling the episode 8's rollercoaster is really funny to me since Trey did in fact explain in his 100% WR history vid the way speedrunners broke down the precise aiming of the rockets with digital and analog trigger (dont remember exactly how but it doesn't matter) so like. it's possilble to consistently aiming them! it's just stupidly obscure
I'm from Italy and I always heard the sunflowers say "Oh, bel sole! de" which roughly translates to "Oh, what a nice sun!" followed by the dialect equivalent of "yo" or similar. Given the already heavy italian inspirations in this game I would consider this at least plausible! (also love your videos ❤❤❤)

And just like that I choose to believe that the main plot of Far Cry 2 was inspired by Mario Sunshine.
The painted stu generators also appear 4 times in the chucksters not-so-secret level
@@psxpancake that’s the level I was talking about. It’s called “secret of the village underside” :) I’ve played this game way too much. I know if the two of them in the middle of the stage (right after you get chuckstered straight up) I didn’t know there were two others though.
12:52 Tbh I think I like the Sunshine bob-ombs more than the traditional ones, I find the screen faces adorable
Sunshine's redesigns are very interesting, it's definitely either trying to make Delfino Island more exotic or just the devs experimenting with artstyle to find what sticks, either way it really makes Sunshine feel even more unique!
Banger series btw, got recommended Ricco Harbor and then went back and watched Bianco Hills and this'un, looking forward to future episodes!
100% sure it’s cuz bowser jr made them with his paintbrush but got some details wrong
@@sirtalentless2548Yup, this is the official lore. Or about as official as you can get from game guides and stuff lol
But it makes a lot of sense contextually so
The idea that the "secret" levels in this game are Bowser Jr's creations reminds me of his levels in Mario Maker 2's story mode.
WAIT. Holy crap. I never gave thought to what the bonus levels are. You've given me a very convincing headcanon to something I never considered.
Junior being the creator of the secret areas makes the Pachinco level make just...ALL the sense
But since Jr. was the main one controlling that ship with the massive Bowser hand I honestly don't think it's a bad headcanon.
speedrunners have a tech for aiming the rockets more consistently
We aint speedrunners around here.
since this is a p exhaustive video i figured hed wanna know that there seems to be a mechanic for aiming that is easy to miss@@jsdodgers
Ye its actually really easy. Just hold down R all the way without clicking it, then click when you wanna shoot and it goes perfectly straight.
I mean, the joy I get watching these is insane. Please keep up the good work and I think you’ll have great success
These are great, very high-quality stuff. Hope the algorithm manages to latch on to you!
21:40 I love the Super Nut hidden on the intermission lmao
Keep it going!
i always heard the sunfloweers as saying "oh im loving it" when you rescue them
16:00 Pretty sure those also show up in the Huur-Gyaar subarea in Pianta Village.
10:20 that's simple : Junior was disguised as Shadow Mario when he has seen the old man. E Gadd thought it was Mario.
@@2CPhoenixMy headcanon is that Kamek made that magic bandana for BJ.
It would make sense that BJ already had the bandana, cuz how else was he planning on framing Mario? The magic brush just made the whole ordeal more easy for BJ and more chaotic for the whole island.
I always thought that Bowser forced e gadd to give Bowser
Jr the brush
But for some reason Bowser didn't tell Jr that he forced e gadd
When i was younger i looked at the brick ice melon for a while, and realized the brick is weighing down the ice to keep the watermelon cold.
15:59 I have a theory. Underneath Pinna Park there's a 2D drawing of a Goomba in a very similar style as those Strollin' Stu spawners. My thought is that there used to be Goomba's in Pinna Park that would've been spawned by it.
14:24 clearly it says "Please pass on my best wishes to your mother, thanks!"
16:00 theres actually another stu picture in the chuckster secret
Was about to say that, yeah. It's one of the few (and easiest?) spots for Infinite 1-Ups.
Sunflower: Hello! Doesn't the sunshine feel lovely?
Mario: _dies from acute heatstroke_
Something about this cracks me up 😆
21:03 - I've always heard "Oh, my mama did!"
These sunshine videos are soo entertaining and I haven't played this game in years.
Definitly a sub from me. Keep on going man.
The only level Noki Bay can be seen from is Pianta Village but just barely
Ive always heard the flowers say "oh im lovin it"
An interesting theory I've heard regarding the Sunshine Redesigns of classic enemies is that they're the result of Jr. creating them w his brush, based on some combination of inaccurately portraying and intentionally redesigning Goombas as Stus, zanier koopas, et al.
Also, I appreciate taking the time to focus on the baby Noki.
I just stumbled across your content, but now I'm hooked. Love your tone and narrative style in these and other videos. Looking forward to more ^^
12:32 I think its because bowser jr used the paint brush to make the enemies in his own way.
This is an incredible series bro
A lot of the redesigns are because they’re made of paint. Strollin Stus are canonically goombas painted by JR..
Well, ya see, when a Koopaisano puts his spaghetti noodle into a mama-mia's ravioli, a little Junior covered in prosciutto comes out about nine months later.
31:57 Amazing how the bongos manage to fit well with the main sample of the song. Yeah, I know it’s all MIDI (it’s not real acapella), but still.
oh, my esophagus!
Hey, I just want to say that I’ve watched a couple of your recent Sunshine videos and they are fantastic! I love this game and will always give a Sunshine video a watch. You’ve earned a like and sub from me!
33:02 works the same way as pumpkin or gourd binding. They’ll grow to fit their restraints.
You make these videos super interesting. I have learned new things about this game from this series. And it’s one of my absolute favs 💜
I thought I knew everything there was to know about this game but these videos are actually teaching me new things. Keep up the great videos!
If the Snoozakoopas are meant to be natural predators who hunt Yoshis by disguising as their eggs, and there are no Yoshis left in their habitat, it's possible their strategy was so effective that they drove this Delfino subspecies to extinction.
this series rules, super fun
I feel that the enemies look different because bowser Jr used the paint brush to make them (Hense why they look goofy/ toy like) and why they're vulnerable to water 🤔
29:57 yoshi also makes this sound if you bring him the wrong fruit. i know because... of all the times it leave a fruit in front of the egg for him to make the sound over and over.
Comment for the algorithm since I will have to come back for the last 10 minutes when not half-asleep
21:27, the only other Pianta in the game that is happy about being sprayed is the one that repairs the cannon that takes you to Pinna Island. Once he repairs the cannon though, he is no longer happy about being sprayed.
27:01 Ah yes, a classic. This is another one of those shines where people always cheese it instead of doing the intended route.
Really love these breakdowns. Such a loving analysis of my favourite Mario game!
goated series
Subscribed off of this series cause this sunshine series is so well done!! And you also covered one of my favorite series of all time: sly cooper which gives me more to watch! Keep it up!
37:09 @2CPhoenix
This is likely due to the fact that in the games code, the diving animation makes mario speed increase when he is going up on the Y axis, resulting in diving speed whilst going up a slope. It's like tricking the game we're continuing to slide upwards, and we only land on the ground once we've reached the top of the slope.
To aim the rockets easier, just lightly press the R button, this will prefill the rocket, then when you press the button all the way down it’s much more accurate!
You have the best deep dive series I’ve ever seen.
2:47 lmao I think the texture they used as part of shadow Mario's goop effect has Peach in a t-pose seem from a side perspective.
IN the fake yoshi fights, I would make them all die in the same spot, so there's the densest field of flowers.
I always watch your videos your style is so informative and in general entertaining
I always heard the sunflower kids were saying "Ooo i'm lovin' it!"
Love the videos!!
awesome video!! just so you know the strollin stu spawner at 16:00 does reappear in the chuckster level 🫶
20:55 I heard almost the same thing! As a kid it was always "Oh, my [gibberish]!" and the gibberish part would change all the time. Esophagus is pretty funny!
Got recommended a vid of yours and have been binging. Instant sub.
Mario's only weakness: uv light
ParticularMushroom: *hasn't done any Super Mario Sunshine video's for about 5 years*
2CPhoenix: "fine, I'll do it myself"
the fact that you used clip from AverageTrey's 100% speedrun as an example of 1-cycling the episode 8's rollercoaster is really funny to me since Trey did in fact explain in his 100% WR history vid the way speedrunners broke down the precise aiming of the rockets with digital and analog trigger (dont remember exactly how but it doesn't matter)
so like. it's possilble to consistently aiming them! it's just stupidly obscure
This is so good! Never a dull moment.
9:42 I mean Mario does have a history of kidnapping parents... (Donkey Kong Jr.)
I wouldn’t have even thought to consider that, a great theory!
Now I want to play a full remake from the ground up with more polygons and textures and added levels and cut content. Love this game so much.
Great series, enjoying watching! Keen for the next ep :)
