I want this book SO BAD! I wrote my English 132 research paper on this lost project; comparing it to Barry Lyndon. I don't think anyone filmmaker out there could master this project as much as Stanley could. However, it would be nice to see it if it ever did get picked up.
It probably would have done better than Barry Lyndon, but the thing I like about Lyndon is its a period piece about regular people and not big historical figures like Napoleon.
If Stanley had made this, I am convinced it would have gone on to win 11 Oscars, and be considered the greatest film of all time! It would be his magnum opus above 2001: A Space Odyssey.
I always wanted to see Napoleon's dramatic coronation in the David painting brought to life by Stanley, but unfortunately, it didn't feature in the script.
No one should make this film, in so far as 'this' is referring to the one imagined and planned by Kubrick. He had his own personal relationship with the material that PTA or Fincher couldn't recreate without venturing into a sort of artificiality. PTA could do PTA's Napoloen, but he couldn't do and shouldn't attempt Kubrick's Napoleon.
It should be given to Werner Herzog. His style is the closest to Kubrick's and I believe that he is the most suited for a historical epic, such as Napoleon.
I would really appreciate if someone answered, is the version on amazon that is 1172 pages long just as good and have just as much information, what does it have missing
I'd like to see David Fincher tackling this project, I think he's very influenced by Kubrick and with apparent news of him circling the new film about "Cleopatra" with "Angelina Jolee", I think he would be qualified to create a film like Napoleon.
IF someone made this I think it would have to be Paul Thomas Anderson, There Will Be Blood reminded me so much of Kubrick. He respects Kubrick so much I think it would be brilliant if he did it, on IF they had to make it.
I guess I’m the only Kubrick fan that doesn’t care that Napoleon didn’t get made. He had already explored war with Paths of Glory and Full Metal Jacket and the period film of Barry Lyndon. I feel like that kind of covers it. Then again I’m not a war buff or history buff.
@schlongy2dope "Somebody"? Well I don't think that there are five living directors who would be able to realize this. Maybe Michael Haneke could do it, but PLEASE: not the usual suspects like Spielberg and Ridley Scott...
Imagine, telling a man like him, a genius, (I am aware he loathed the term, but I don't care, it fits, and it is false modesty on his part) he can't do the film. It's like telling Beethoven who is still alive and in good health that he can't a tenth symphony. It's a bad call. The money should have been found. MGM cheated the world out of a masterpiece. What a loss!
Nobody should touch this. It was Kubrick's film, and unfortunately it was never made because of short sighted studio heads. Nobody else can make it the way he would've. It'd be like someone filming all the lost scenes of the Magnificent Ambersons. Just leave it alone.

ahhhh, I wish Stanley had made this.

This man made a day-to-day catalog of Napoleon's life. He found out where Napoleon was every week of every year. Amazing.

It wouldn't shock me if this is the most thoroughly researched movie project ever.
an absolute tragedy this film was never made, however "waterloo" is still a wonderful and powerful film.
So they have the locations, the costumes and the screenplay? This film should be made.
I always wanted to see Napoleon's dramatic coronation in the David painting brought to life by Stanley, but unfortunately, it didn't feature in the script.
it's a tragedy the film was never made, and also that they only printed 1000 copies of this book.... it's so expensive!
It's all about the money to those big corporations. A work of art wasn't created because of their greed.
The only ones I accept are Martin Scorsese and Paul Thomas Anderson

If it's going to be created for me only 5 people can direct it Stephen Spielberg, dennis Villeneuve, christopher Nolan, martin Scorsese, bong Joon ho.

just the 1970 masterpiece by Sergei Bondarchuk, "waterloo"

I don't think anyone today understands Napoleon as well as Kubrick possibly did
Yes, I think Anderson would handle the film well, possibly even someone out of this world like Pasolini if it was made 40 years ago.
Thanks, MGM.
I would have loved to see this vision realized, but remember that there would have been no 'A Clockwork Orange' nor 'Barry Lyndon'.
timothy brooks I haven’t seen A Clockwork Orange in years. I’ll have to watch again.

Go,go,Spielberg!I believe in him!His"Napoleon"will be a masterpeace!
Me too. Just bought a copy of Wartime Lies.
Martin Scorsese and Paul Thomas Anderson. The ONLY ones that could do it right
anyone know what the background music is?
Scorsese could do it nicely
"Can AI complete Stanley's unfinished Napoleon project?"
the voice is just like Olivia danan fom fringe
I wish Stanely had livved another 15-20 years.

Forget this. I want to see the Aryan Papers!

funny i recently used a beethoven 10th symphony analogy with a friend talking about A.I.
Isn't Spielberg going to direct this movie now?
And very expensive (5000 euros the book)...
PLEASE give this to Tarantino!

3:39 What does he want to do with a glory hole?
leave it alone
who the fuck is Michael Haneke
