  • No, this is not a comparison of two smoking super cars, but something far more useful. What does the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan have that the Honda Odyssey doesn't and vice versa? Well, who isn't asking those burning questions? Want answers? Can you handle the truth? Lyn Woodward from Kelley Blue Book tries to sort the whole thing out.

    Your comparison leaves out the best parts of the Pacifica Hybrid. The gas mileage is great and with a level 2 charger you can run on electric for your in town errands saving money and gas because it's a PLUG-IN hybrid. A tank of gas lasts 2-3 months easily so less worry about gas prices and filling up in the heat or cold. Most people that own a minivan have carseats in the second row anyway so we don't care if the second row stows. These seats are a lot more padded and comfortable because they don't need to stow. The entertainment package for the kids is included with the Hybrid. I priced a similar Odyssey when I bought my Pacifica and it was a no brainer as far as features for the money. The Pacifica Hybrid blows the Odyssey out of the water when comparably equipped.

      @stevelovescars 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was going to say, they didn’t even mention the plug-in capability of the Pacifica. For many people using these to haul kids and run around town, it’s essentially a full EV with the ability to hit the highway. I drive a 2013 Volt and haven’t used a tank of gas in the past year. The Pacifica Hybrid is similar.
      I do have some qualms about Fiat Chrysler reliability on a car that complex, but I did rent a base Pacifica on a trip and it was very nice to drive and I even think the styling is nice.

      @Lu Cifer , hey I love the Pacifica a lot. But I've been on several Pacifica forums and owners of this vehicle are constantly chiming in about how often the van has to be sent to the dealer for repairs and awful dealership service, the van leaving them stranded, clunking 9 speed transmission and other stuff. I really can't resist the equipment, the looks, everything. I'm just afraid of getting stuck with a bad vehicle. My question...have you had even the slightest bit of any kind of trouble? Sway me or warn me.

    BUT WHAT YOU FAILED TO TELL CONSUMERS ABOUT THE PACIFICA IS WHAT I WRITE HERE:
    HAVE ANY OF YOU PURCHASED A NEW CHRYSLER PACIFICA RECENTLY? Just when you thought you had it bad, I just purchased a brand new Chrysler Pacifica Sport with towing for 3600lbs (V6) and it DOES NOT and I repeat, does not come with a donut spare wheel. It came with a "fix-a-flat" can and air pressure hose inflator. I said, "WTF am I supposed to do this this when I am out in the middle of Utah or North GA and 50-100 miles to the nearest station while I have a flat?" The sales and service manager said, "That's how they all come now unless you order a donut installed at the factory." I said, "BS, you gotta be shittin me. How much to buy the donut from the factory?" They said, "500.00 plus install." I said, "You've gotta be shittin me." They said, "And, Oh by the way, it is not inflated. You have do that!" I said, "You've gotta be shittin me." They said, "We just checked and there are ONLY six, and we repeat six in the entire country right now at six different dealers (one at each). Do you want us to try and get a dealer-to- dealer transfer for you at $500?" I said, "No shit. Order it." I could only imagine towing my boat down the rural roads and having a flat and not being able to fix it.
    PEOPLE: DO NOT PURCHASE A PACIFICA OR ANY OTHER CAR UNLESS AND I REPEAT UNLESS YO GET IT WITH AT LEAST A DONUT SPARE. ARE THESE CAR MANUFACTURERS FUCKING NUTS?

    • @bosongkim9305
      @bosongkim9305 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt Jones, it’s not a refund but deduction from what you need to pay. With two children, a married filing jointly would need $113,186 of adjusted gross income to have $11,500 of tax liability and qualify for the full $7500 of electric vehicle credit. If I make that much, I would buy something else

    • @mattjones3257
      @mattjones3257 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a $40K+ vehicle brand new. Two people making less than 115 combined should likely not be buying it. And even wealthy people with 3 kids or more would go with this over a Maserati. I’m not 100% sure on your math, but (assuming eligibility) it is a dollar for dollar reduction to the purchase price and it does drive down used prices. So while the Pacifica hybrid’s MSRP is $40K, the real price is $33K, while the Honda’s real price is actually $40K.

    Cabin watch, cabin talk... never used it after first month... cool tech but honestly really useless, you will still turn your head talk to your kids...
    It is kind of stupid the only USB port in the front is inside the center console, and they don't leave a cut out for the cable to pass thru...
    The brake hold location is weird and you have to press it every time you get in the car, and it is right next to the E brake and the button is very similar, so even after 2 years I still sometimes press the wrong one at night while the car is moving... uncomfortably stopped... and a lot of times you will see the indicator light showing it is holding the brake, but it will still does a E stop like of braking to stop the car completely, really uncomfortable and makes u like an idiot driving...
    The Nav unit will not memorize your last setting, you got 50% chance it will still on the Nav screen on your next start up or it will jump to the Car Play page even you didn't use Car Play at all from your previous ride...
    The Honda app pops up full screen on your phone every time you connect the phone to the USB no matter what you are doing on the phone, which is super annoying and cannot be changed
    If you remove the 2nd row the floor is not flat because of the cool magic sliding seat, so be aware if you always want to haul a lot of cargo
    On the plus side... ride is nice, handle nice, really nice for a big heavy car, especially when cornering, the car sit lower than other minivan so it is easier to climb in for kid or elderly
    But my car got so much issues from day one... and I'm so regret now getting it... waiting for the new Sienna...

      For your money, you should have gotten the Pacifica hybrid. I had mine for almost 3 years now and over 75000 miles. No reliability issues. Better than the Audi Q7 I had before. 5 USB jacks, 2 in front, 2 in middle and 1 in back. Since it's a hybrid, it's super quiet and I can talk to back seat no problem. 1 tank of gas can go from LA to Vegas and back to LA no problem. Pacifica has something called "send and go", so you just share your destination on phone with car GPS wirelessly. Then car GPS routes you directly to destination. I haven't bothered with android or apple CarPlay.

      Buy the Pacifica plug-in hybrid. With the tax credit, it's a better deal. Plus, you get 32 miles of pure electric driving per day by charging overnight on standard 110 outlet at a cost of around $1.40 per day for electricity where I live. Gas is now $2.90 a gallon around here, so you save about $1.50 a day, or, $45 a month. Also, you only need gas every 1,000 miles or so with normal driving. Long trips? It still has a V6 Hybrid engine that gets 30 MPG. Best of both worlds.

The Pacifica Hybrid depreciates by that much the moment you drive off, because only the first owner gets that. • @slandshark

    I'd rebuy our 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid in a heartbeat. Our best tank of gas, we traveled 2,550 miles and still had 1/4 left. Yes, you read that right. Since the Pacifica Hybrid is actually a plug-in, we do about 75% of all our driving on pure electric. This also means we are saving $100/month on gas vs a typical ICE vehicle that gets 28'ish mpg.
    We haven't even owned it a year yet and have saved over $1k in gas alone. Then you factor in the basically lack of maintenance (since driving EV means no wear and tear on the engine, and regen breaking means no wear and tear on the brakes), it's saving us a lot of money, not just the gas money.
    And compared to both our previous SUV's (Nissan Rogue and Nissan Pathfinder), the Pacifica Hybrid is faster, way more interior/cargo space (despite the pacifica being basically same exterior size with the pathfinder), WAY more comfortable, has WAY more technology, etc, etc, the list just keeps going. The 3 row panoramic sunroof is very cool, makes the car feel very spacious inside and brings in a lot of light.
    And did I mention how quiet it is? Running EV, there's no noise. You don't need any fancy technology on the interior to talk to your 3rd row passengers, because there's no engine noise to drown it out. You can have regular conversations in the Pacifica Hybrid with all rows.

Only thing I don’t like is auto engine shut off when the car is not moving it’s really annoying that you can permanently turn it off once and for all. Hopefully I will get used to turning that shit off every time I drive this van.

    This is not a very helpful comparison. More of two separate reviews back to back. The gas only Pacifica gets 22 mpg combined, exactly the same as the Odyssey, not 28 combined as stated. The 82 mpge is on electric only, a max of 32 miles on a full charge. This should be made more clear. Once the battery is depleted, it is rated 30 mpg combined. Additionally the tank size on the Pacifica Hybrid is 16.5 gallons, whereas the Odyssey and gas only Pacifica are 19.5 and 19 gallons respectively. This would come into play on a road trip, where you might not have time to stop to charge the battery, essentially negating the fuel economy advantage of the hybrid, in that respect.

    • @wzDH106
      @wzDH106 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Assuming the Pacifica Hybrid is used for average driving habits ( city and errand driving ). The use of a fully charged battery every day, along with the hybrid gasoline tech, will lead in overall fuel economy and overall cost savings. Even on road trips, where the battery isn't fully charged, the hybrid will most likely edge out the Honda in operating costs. Long term savings would include prolonged brake life from regenerative braking and longer durations between oil changes from less engine demand.
      But if you're referring to pure range capability per tank, then yeah, the Honda would take the cake.... even though that's a horrifying 6-7 hours in the sitting position without stopping.

    • @WHR0306
      @WHR0306 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 82 mpge is when the battery is charged along with the gas. You can honestly go months without visiting the gas station.

    • @schwagnum
      @schwagnum 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Miles per gallon equivalent, as in only operating on the electric motor. As long as you keep the battery charged, you wouldn't have to use any gas at all, as long as you don't exceed the 32 mile range (give or take depending on conditions and load.)

    • @schwagnum
      @schwagnum 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you will save money on fuel, but the savings on maintenance costs is speculative. You will likely make up that savings when it comes time to sell, as the Honda will hold it's value better. Only time will tell which one is more reliable...
      It only takes 5 minutes to stretch your legs, but hey, that might be enough charge time to give the advantage back to the Pacifica in that hypothetical scenario.

    • @tenhundredkills
      @tenhundredkills 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      By "hybrid brakes", they're talking about a the regenerative brake system. In addition to stopping the car, they also have to charge the hybrid battery. They definitely feel different than your conventional vehicle brakes on non-hybrids. Whether or not that's good or bad is entirely up to you. Personally, I've only driven a couple hybrids and I got used to the feel in a couple minutes. Other people I know hate the way hybrid brakes feel.

      We've put over 50,000 miles on our Pacifica, and other than a recall we've only had one warranty claim. The battery was replaced. I think it was damaged because the dealer did not maintain it on their lot. Our van uses cell phone technology....it's the reason you can locate it, or start it, or unlock it with your phone. If it sits for an extended time on the dealer lot without the dealer charging the battery it eventually runs the battery down and damages the battery. I'm sure that is what happened to ours. The van sent a problem report to Uconnect. I received an email message on my phone to take it to the dealer and have the battery checked. It tested bad and they replaced it.
