      It's a phenomenon called bleaching. The coral is actually dying. We have that happening in the Caribbean also. While we generally think it's not a good thing, I hope it's only for a short period but I'm not holding my breath. We all need to help take care of our planet.

      Those are encrusting soft coral Palythoa caribaeorum. The brown comes from the zooxanthellae living within the coral cells, and they give the coral nutrients as well as shade. The white is the result of the zooxanthellae having been purged mainly due to stress, such as temps or water quality. The good news is that they are soft corals that are much more tolerable to zooxanthellae loss than stony coral. I would anticipate nearly 100% recovery within a year. If the coral were dead, it would not be there as it would dissolve, unlike stony corals that would have the skeleton remaining.

      It dos mean it is dying but since it’s late in the season an not breaking apart there’s still hope that the water goes cold an Algae comes back an fish are around it has a fighting chance

    Awesome job cooking Chris. Quick tip when I use the fresh tomatoes for sautéed dishes put salt and cracked pepper at prep and they will start to sweat as you are cooking and are an awesome consistency when you add them to the pan. Cheers

    Have you ever thought about deglazing the pan that you seared the lobsters in and added to sauce? Great video, enjoyed all the different species of fish. I saw my salt-water aquarium down there.

    When I was in the Marine Corps, I was stationed in Hawaii and me and a couple of my friends used to go snorkeling in Hawaii and it was awesome seeing all the Fish and coral, the coral head like little roadways thing you can swim through around the coral and it was really neat

    so grab the lobsters by the antenna, get two near same size, then hold them pointing where you want to go they if held right will thrust you there

    I googled it. It's called coral bleaching. May or may not kill the coral. Common event due to extreme water temp, either too warm or too cold. You and Vic and your family really warm my heart. Love you guys.

    The white stuff “on” the coral is actually bleached coral, it either is expelled it’s zooxanthellae or it’s already dead.

    I always talk to my wife about these videos when you and Vic go out free diving . Whether on your channel or his . That is my goal . Get a nice fishing boat we can take out and get the whole family in the water diving for lobsters ! It looks so liberating to catch your dinner this way . Of course like every other comment I fear the sharks but I did not see any in the video . Either that’s good editing or they just were not there lol 😂
