Novice riders, my wife and I walked into Tom's Bike Shop in Tulsa, Oklahoma and were set up with two Giant Cypress Sts. That was over 15 years ago and, with periodic replacement of cables, tires, etc., we're still riding them. We both think it was the best investment ($218 each) we ever made.
Got mine for $250 second hand. Bought it just for light exercise during my vacations in USA, loved it so much that I'm bringing it with me back to Mexico.
I have a 22' Giant Cross City and it is the same bike except for colour. I am a big guy, about 280lbs and the only issue being the wheels are 24 spoke and I was breaking spokes on the rear wheel. My LBS and Giant covered it and fitted heavier gage spokes and they've been good since. All up it's done about 700miles and I am very happy with it.
Excellent job on the video. This bike the way described looks fabulous. I've been riding steel road bikes for 36 years and this is a nice looking hybrid bike with wider tires.
I love mine. I bought it for touring on a variety of conditions, mostly paved but occasionally on gravel and mud. The tires are perfect for my need, not too aggressive that they slow you down but ready to go a off road if needed. Needed a more upright bike than a conventional touring bike and I couldn't be happier. The geometry and flat bar make for a very comfortable all day ridable bike. I find the gearing to be perfect for me for climbing (while fully loaded) and for a comfortably speed on flatter roads. The disk brakes are perfect and have plenty of grab even when I have the bike fully loaded for a many day ride. I love all the mounting brackets. For a basic bike, I couldn't be happier. Really nothing on here I feel I need to upgrade with thousands of miles on it.
i have the escape 3 which I use to commute 9 miles each way to work through pavement, rocky/gravel trail trail. It works great. 34t cassette can make it up all grades. Shifts smooth. The v-brakes work great. I got it brand new 2024 on sale $325.
Great 👍 video as per usual 😌 Thanks again for all your information in all of your videos. I've learned so much from you over the past few years. I purchased a Trek FX3 thanks to you.
Modern hybrids like this and the Trek FX bikes remind me of the fully rigid mountain bikes in the late eighties and early nineties ie good practical and comfortable all rounders without the excess weight of suspension. I wish I’d got one sooner!
The lowest gear ratio is 0.88... which is pretty good, not quite as low as a mountain bike. I wouldn't call it "super" low. I think super low would be < 0.80.
Nice bike. I was recently in the market for a fitness hybrid and ended up choosing the Specialized Sirrus X 4.0 Yes it costs twice as much, but front derailleurs are just bulk and clutter imo. Such a pleasure and so much cleaner to ride a 1X drivetrain. Also for the extra $750 got a carbon fork, and a bit of suspension up front. I get it though for price point this is fantastic.
i think you'd be surprised to find out that 1x systems are barely lighter than 2x systems, because in case of 1x you'd need more gears in the backs. there is no significant gain in terms of weight, however, the front derailleur can't fail if you don't have one at all.
Had that bike for a year and absolutely loved it, especially the colour. But I think the Escape series falls in between Giant FastRoad and Giant Roam. Otherwise, that was a good review.
What bike did you trade to? I have an older Escape 2 that I bought 2nd hand and am debating between purchasing the newer Escape or Fastroad (Not sure when the 2023 models will be available in my country, so looking at 2022 editions.)
@@snoozefesties Dunno if you got a new bike by this time, but Fastroad is a tier above Escape with a price to match it (startingabout $1000). I don't like the proprietary D-Fuse seatpost for the Fastroad though even if they're supposedly more comfortable.
I have an older Escape that I've ridden in three "Mountains to the Coast" rides in NC, twice the whole way. I also took it to New York for the Five Boroughs Ride, and to SC for the first Bicycle Across South Carolina ride. If there's a better hybrid bike out there I've yet to ride it.
Very nice bike. Nowadays there's a lot of competition in this segment (fitness). This Giant Escape, however, allows a wider tire. I think it'll take a 45mm whereas many others are sub 40.
Straight up competing with TREK’s FX2 Ya’ think!? 🤔Nice bike for 👍🏾😏Commuting & Fitness!..🤨but 18gears might’ve sweetened the deal for most buyers huh!? Cool!! I like it but I’ve got that TREK FX2 ‘22 and it is the Bomb!!✨🚴🏾💨Fast too!
I have a Giant Escape 2 with rim brakes. Honestly, the older version is better than the new one. It has 3x8 gearing, which does not put extra strain on the chain. It came with a 28/38/48 hollotech 2 front crankset, which is better than this prowheel squaretaper double crank. Having just one plate in the front puts the maximum strain on the chain. Having 2 or 3 plates on the crankset puts much less strain on it, since the rider can change the plate size depending on what terrain he is riding. Also, rim brakes are much cheaper and easier to maintain than disk brakes.
Hello James! I've been wanting to have this Giant Escape bike for so long, and I wanted to change the handlebars to dropbars. I'd like to ask which shimano microshifters are compatible for the 2x8 Shimano Altus groupset? Since my dream bike is a hybrid-road-commute type of bike for long-distance ridings and biketouring/bikepacking. Thanks a lot!
seem like you get allot in this bicycle for the price point. I wish they had a high end version of it, but as a city bicycle good chance it might get stolen, so I guess keep it less expensive.
@@Jamesthebikeguy thanks-- i had just purchased this bike and the even the local bike store couldnt figure out how to change the angle of the saddle. The toothed gears of the saddle mount were so stuck to the seatpost that everyone was dumbfounded and doubting whether it was adjustable by design. Hitting it using a rubberized hammer to loosen it up did the trick eventually
3x has less wear. More chainring to spread the wear, less cross chaining which wears the cassettes like mad as well as the chains. 1x also typically has narrower chains that don't like to crosschain and you can't use chain breakers to reassemble chains
thats why you use a chain master link. And 3x is heavier and more complicated. To be honest, I would rather replace my chain more often and benefit from these things than carrying two extra chainrings that I wont use very often anyway...

My dad bought a Trek Navigator 200 a little over 23 years ago, and he still rides it. It cost $250 new, we still have the receipt.
Bikes are incredible buys

Basically the trek fx 2 with different badging, color and geometry. Niiiiiiice. My favorite type of bike!
Giant makes most of treks frames so im not surprised by the similarities
I put gravel tires on mine. Does great for the price… love it
I think this will be a great bike for everyday transportation especially since I don't have a car and everything is relatively close
💪

Love the weighing... definitley worth waiting for at the end.

Two years ago I would have been agast at that price! Thanks to you I know better. Simple but very nice bike.
Mmm .. my favorite bike review channel.
I loved your review! You know your stuff.... thanks! 🙏🏼
As a new cyclists I appreciate your effort
I have a 2016 Giant Escape 2 bike. The most comfortable and smooth riding bike I ever had.
nice clear video presentation.
Hello James, I just found your channel and it’s amazing. Thank you for great content. I hit subscribe button. Have a good one. Cheers.

3x or 2x is said to have been one of Aristotle's most challenging questions to ponder.
really great review
Works fine, shocks would help on up the curbs
Very nicely explained 👍
Thanks for watching
Nice review. Thank u

Appreciate the review, would a medium or large suit a 181cm person? Thanks!
I just bought a 2 rated Giant very similar to this called a Cross City
Which is best
Trek fx 2 or giant escape 2
Nice video. Random question - what type of bike stand is that in the opening?
it shouldn't be more than 27 pounds. 25.84 pounds 👍👍
2x8 is a really nice setup.
11-34t perfectly paired with 46/30t.
Which is better? This or the Trek FX 2?
Is this the 2021 or 2022 model & is there a difference between the two?
This bike can be got cheaper than an FX1 in the UK if you look.
Can we use 700x45 gravel tyres on this bike? Thinking of using this as a commuter/gravel bike.
You can use up to 45mm tires, so the answer is yes.
Would this bike handle well for gravel riding?
Looks neat.
Is 53Tx39T Chainring can be use or fit in?
I really like this bike! Anyone knows if there is a version with carbon fork and seat post?
Where can I buy that bike stand ?
Love it going to go buy me one
So what do you think ?
What's your height? And did you fit well on the Medium?
Is the zero a lot better than the three
I have a giant escape. But I don't know which one. I bought it in 2015
good for hill climbs?
Which is better Giant or Merida?
seem like you get allot in this bicycle for the price point. I wish they had a high end version of it, but as a city bicycle good chance it might get stolen, so I guess keep it less expensive.
How easy is it to ride up the hills?
Pretty good at hills.
Maybe have not diference with trek fx 2
Price?
Седло лучше, чем у меня. И цвет бордовый - шикарный.
Видимо для америки поставляются более качественные модели, чем для казахстана
To owners of this bike- is it possible to change the tilt of the seat?
Yes you can

Странно... Почему на моём Escape2 2022 28 спиц на колесе, а на этом 32 спицы?
You scored ! I wish mine had 28 spokes. 32 is too much

Giant Roam is better all-round bike, suitable for most surfaces/terrain then.
The weight is not a big deal ? He can go faster as Escape 2 on bike path ?
Not really. It's heavier and is more suited for a rougher environment
You're absolutely thick if you think a suspension bike isn't more versatile for more terrain than non-suspension
these should be 1x
US bikes are far better in colour. UK are boring
I have this bike, in this colour, in the UK
И вилка у меня алюминиевая цельная, а у этого велосипеда с коваными наконечниками под дропаут
