- Jack Gibbons plays Charles-Valentin Alkan's En rythme molossique, no. 2 of 'Douze Etudes dans les Tons Mineurs' (Twelve Studies in the Minor Keys), Alkan's magnum opus, published in 1857.
Correction: the captions at 5:39 at 6:15 wrongly state that Alkan's grave is located in the Père Lachaise cemetery. It is in fact located (as the map at 6:24 shows) in the Montmartre Cemetery in Paris.

One of my favourite pieces from Alkan. Great performance too.
I love Alkan so much. It's such a shame nobody knows him since he was kind of outshined by Chopin and Liszt. Well that and the fact that he was a social recluse who never performed.
same
I feel the same, but he did perform in his early life, and also before he died
Many times! I think it's a wonderful piece.

My favorite of the etudes. What magnificent tone quality.
What a hypnotic piece.. i've listened to this a dozen times or so in a row now. it's strange, i've known this piece for a while, but only now it has grown on me. that might be the fantastic performance, what a power you put into it! amazing music.
da da da da daaaa, da da da da daaaa,

Wunderbar gespielt! Ein bemerkenswertes Video! Danke.
It's always great to hear this work again. Have you often performed this work in concert?
so much music to discover, like alkan, dussek, henselt, rubinstein, and most of all famous pianist in todays music is stuck in only one place for many years playing the same: beethoven, shubert, ects...
Why do you like Alkan, Mr. Gibbons? It's a technic challenge but doesn't he "basic"? Well, I really love these Etudes and the Symphony.
Nicolas Messina “basic”?
"basic"
bravo!
Pano Pouroullis Most of Alkan's pieces are verrrrry hard to play and some pieces (Le Preux) are so hard that there are no known recordings of them. I would say you would need fantastic technique to play most of his pieces.

Pano Pouroullis From my wrists to my elbows I'd be sore for usually about two days at a time, but there's never been permanent damage.
Expected gibbons to play instead of a person.
Jackgibbons are not like jackrabbits. I'm sorry you were misled.
