I can't actually find any source for either rumor, so I have no idea whether either claim hold any water. I'm fairly certain that no official source has stated definitively that Kairi killed Akuma, though. That said, I've only got the Japanese PS1 version of EX2 lying around, so I suppose it's possible that one of the Western manuals mentioned it. Unfortunately, I can't check, since finding scans of EX2's manuals is surprisingly difficult...
Marsgatti is in NYC and I never met him? He is on my friend list on Xbox live. We used to run Virtua fighter every Tuesday at next level.. I wish I could've met him and played some offline matches. He is a good dude.

i will always bang the drum for EX3, but it's not for a lot of players. it's just a neverending supply of creative broken shit to do, and people don't like broken shit and that's fine! i still say EX1 is the worst all around, though. EX3 is at least unique - i don't see what EX1 has to offer that ST or alpha 2 doesn't. EX's slower walkspeed & terrible fireballs mean that it shouldn't try to emulate SF2, i feel.
EX3 is sorta like EX2+ except it lacks Excel combos, its graphics somehow managed to be uglier, has way worse looking/less interesting backgrounds, and I think there's a damage scaling nerf in effect which makes canceling supers into each other way less effective.
super cancels are weaker, but that's why you have momentaries and tag combos! some momentaries are boatloads of fun but have real tight execution. EX3 takes training-mode work to be fun, though you could say the same thing about excels. agree on the aesthetics, but using the EX1 soundtrack more than makes up for all that imo!
apparently there is a small scene (but a scene nonetheless) online using PS1 emulator that supports netplay. But hey at least it has people playing and checking out a great Arika classic.
