This is an awesome song. The lines towards the end of the song... "rise up, with wings like eagles You run and not grow weary" ...is actually a quote from the bible - Isaiah 40:31. This song is not really about romantic love, but is about the love of Jesus to "the drowning man". I.e. when Jesus walked on water and Peter came to meet him, but started sinking and cried out "Lord, save me!"
Early U2....you are listening to the roots that grew such beauty that is U2 today. Legendary, U2's music will endure long after the four men leave this earth.
Bono,The Edge and Larry wrote this song for Adam as a love song from God to him. At the time Adam was the only one of them who was not a Christian so they wrote it as a love letter.
Glad I bought that old U2 audio cassette tape from that 2nd hand music store years ago, I would never have had the pleasure of hearing this brilliant song..... Instantly takes me back to the 80's even though i never heard this song till mid-late 90's :-)
Of all the songs I listen to on youtube, I listen to this one the most. Even though it wasn't the top song on the album, it pulls me back to it. I think Bono is one of the most outstanding people alive today. I think he has helped bring peace to Ireland; he has worked to bring healing to AIDs victims in Africa, and he's also fighting against poverty. I don't know of anyone who has been able to get so many others involved in these important issues, issues that cross all boundaries.
Beautiful song by U2. In the top 5 from them. It's amazing how with minimal instruments the song still feels as powerful as any heavy metal or rock. It seems whenever there's some sort of string arrangement in songs, the depth and the texture of the music is greatly enhanced. For me it seems to trigger a mood of deeper thought and reflection.
Eno did not work with U2 on War; he was on board for their next one, the Unforgettable Fire. This song is so pure and raw. I wish that more people knew it because it is so beautiful.
this song came on once while i was driving into new york, it was a beautiful day and the song fit all the dockyards and factories and highways in new jersey we were driving through, and then to see the manhattan skyline open up while this song was playing gave you that feeling of being very small and just one piece of a huge puzzle
This is my favourite song of all time. i wish U2 would release it so it can get the recognision it deserves. I believe the song is about Bono's platonic love for The Edge and he wrote it for him to say thankyou.
This Is U2s most beautiful song, and it was written for a friend of Bono's who died. Bono wrote this after his friend died by his own hand, and it is not His love it is This love will last forever, I was very close to the band at this time
i cant not explain what i fell for this music,,not resume in words,,i cry for this ever time when im listenning this song,,,u2 are so perfect,,i really love this boys,,u2 love ever from portugal
Merci Seigneur. Merci U2 pour cette chanson.
didn't hear this song for ages and now it sounds so different to me, it sounds so good, lovely video, it gave a bonus for this song especially the images with clouds
Because when you are the best they want to tear you down. U2 are rock legend and will forever stand the test of time. Bono doesn't give two shites what the haters say.
EXCELLENT VISUALS! Thank you! Some of the video pics make it look like it is about human love, but it is the voice of God reaching out to every one of us. His is the Love that lasts forever ~
The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint (Isaiah 40)
lovely song.. and I haven't heard it before.. I've decided to discover the less popular songs of U2 and there're sooo many! thanks for it.. and the pictures're great too! :)
Isaiah 40:31: But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not go weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Everytime I hear this song I'm amazed that it isn't their top selling song of all time. But I can see why they don't perform it more. It's sung in the upper voice register, and it gets harder to sing so high as you get older. They sing it a full octave higher than in the beginning of the song. WOW! Still, they could transpose it down a third and make it easier to sing. It would still be great.
Try listening to it as though the song was sung from the perspective of Jesus to one of his followers. The song talks about how the winds and tides and changing times that won't drag the person away, and about a love that will last forever - an eternal love.
So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus; but when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, "Lord, save me." Jesus immediately reached out His hand and caught him, saying to him, "O man of little faith, why did you doubt?"
Amazing song. Unfortunately, it does not get enough of a mention from fans/critics. Everything about it from the backing arrangments to Bono's final voice of desparation make this a real classic IMO.
Rise up...rise up, with wings of eagles! *** Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
this song is breathtaking, i never get tired of it
Neither am I! How can someone disliked this vd?
This is an awesome song.

The deepest song, hard to not be moved to tears everytime I hear it
If i wrote the word "amazing" here a thousand times, it wouldn't even begin to describe how amazing this song is.
Just a powerful song.
Glad I bought that old U2 audio cassette tape from that 2nd hand music store years ago, I would never have had the pleasure of hearing this brilliant song.....
Instantly takes me back to the 80's even though i never heard this song till mid-late 90's :-)
Quite possibly the most overlooked song ever. One of my favorites.
Excellent work. Top favorite song for me too. Saved my life in my darkest hour. I held on tightly.
This is the song I want played at my funeral. Absolutely transcendent.
My Wife introduced me to this song long ago, via this EXACT video. Love it always. HalleluJah!!!
Legendary song. Legendary album. War is one of my personal antiquities.
When I first heard this song... It was something special...and always has been there after. It is such a beautiful song....thats 'lasts forever".
Beautiful song...You can hear the Celtic roots of U2..ethereal....
Every time I hear this song, I feel goose bumps, it's affects me so deeply, I love it, Thank you U2 for creating such beautiful music. xoxo
Mahastee Mehdizadeh hell yeah
The strong acoustic guitar is just beautiful! Powerful, uplifting song!

Underrated, overlooked.....great song!

that is string arrangements other than guitar
This song, and the album as a whole, are very Post-Punk genre in general. U2 eventually led to my unspeakable love for Echo and the Bunnymen.
@chertzyb: Texture..nah...just like it came from deep inside them, and a lot of the atmosphere is Eno.
Eno did not work with U2 on War; he was on board for their next one, the Unforgettable Fire.
This song is so pure and raw. I wish that more people knew it because it is so beautiful.
Yeah, very underrated and beautiful.
This is as U2 as a song can get. Haunting guitar, violin and lyrics
On a list of incredible songs spanning decades, for me, this song sits at the top. This is the best song by U2. New Years Days comes after this.
This song to me describes great loss and hurt,That eons of time could never really heal.
But we must go on,God is with us,no matter what happens.
this song needs a movie...very deep and sadly sweet.
Titanic?

This song is so beautiful and so Biblical - it breaks your heart how much Jesus loves us. Just listen to the lyrics...
My fav. song of U 2, especially because of its wonderful lyric!
One of their most powerful songs ever!!! Simply awesome!!!
I usually find songs without a bridge monotonous, but this is among the few I actually like...a lot.
excellent visuals with the beautiful song... you all are so talented
Yes, my favorite song too!!!
Is one of the reason in 1992 I start an adventure.... opening the U2 Italian Fan Club "U2 STATION".....
Favorite U2 song from my favorite U2 album. Brings back some emotional memories. Love the song.
Make no mistake. This song is not a love song. It's a declaration of love from God to Adam their bass player.
This goes back to when U2 had fire in their hearts for Jesus.✝️
I love this song even more than ever after watching your slide show...what a fantastic job you've done...you moved me, thank you for making this!!
This is my favorite U2 song. Beautiful song but makes me so sad!
EXCELLENT VISUALS! Thank you! Some of the video pics make it look like it is about human love, but it is the voice of God reaching out to every one of us. His is the Love that lasts forever ~
