Take a deep breath in...now slowly breathe out. Mmm isn't it wonderful? All that air around us, which we bring into our lungs, extracts oxygen from, and then breathe out carbon dioxide. CO2 is essential for life on this planet we call Earth - we and plants take turns using and emitting CO2 in an elegant symbiosis. But it's important to keep that CO2 balanced - you don't want too much around, not good for humans and not good for our planet.
The Sensirion SCD-30 is an NDIR sensor, which is a 'true' CO2 sensor, that will tell you the CO2 PPM (parts-per-million) composition of ambient air. Unlike the SGP30, this sensor isn't approximating it from VOC gas concentration - it really is measuring the CO2 concentration! That means it's a lot bigger and more expensive, but it is the real thing. Perfect for environmental sensing, scientific experiments, air quality and ventilation studies, and more.
Data is read over I2C, so it works very nicely with just about any microcontroller or microcomputer. We've written both Arduino and Python/CircuitPython code so you can get started in a jiffy. Another nice element to this sensor is it comes with an SHT31 temperature and humidity sensor already built-in. The sensor is used to compensate the NDIR CO2 sensor, but it's also readable so you get full environmental data.

Considering the video, it would be most helpful for the relevant code to be published, which allows the NDIR CO2 sensor data to be displayed on the Feather SH1107 OLED, as is demonstrated by the video. The provided example code shows either the Feather's connection to the OLED or the Feather and the NDIR CO2 sensor. No example code seems to be available showing the NDIR CO2 sensor, the Feather and the OLED working together. Sincerely hope that the example code (as used in the video above) - either Arduino code but preferably CircuitPython will be made available. The three components alone are £100 - so any additional help would be most appreciated. Keep up the great work!

CO2 levels are an extremely important issue in measuring levels of ventilation in rooms etc. related to COVID prevention. Real CO2 detection is important, not a derived value from VOC measurements. For example the state of Minnesota is recommending less than 800 ppm of CO2 in school rooms. CO2 monitoring is common in Japan.

You guys are the best! Really you guys you doing a great job, I hope soon to order this module with 1000 piece's at the time, I waiting allmost two years for a low power co2 meter! You guys keep on the good work and be F proud what you guys allready did!

Sensing specific molecules is the future. So many applications need to know EXACTLY what's happening in a given operation or system.

Super cool, in my cart right now. Think I'll combine it with the pm25a sensor and maybe even the sgp30 to make an all in one "very fancy air quality for a hobbyist" gadget.

Really neat.... 👍🙂 just wondering how it would perform with “smoke in a can” which is used for testing smoke detectors... hmmm... I certainly like the fact it gives a numeric value....

Hi, do you have a link to the code you've used in the demonstration?

How exactly does room air get into and out of the sensor? Need to know if it fits my enclosure, which has a 1x60mm slot for access to room air.

hello I have a small one 25 m2 cork greenhouse using sdc 30 I just installed the system. But if the ambient humidity will be 90%, will this cause the sensor to fail? Do you have a suggestion for this?

Can the SCD30 sensor be used to measure carbon dioxide coming out of the exhaust pipe for a small car like a prius? I would appreciate the help

Why is there visible light if it is supposed to be NDIR?

The datasheet states that it reads from 400-10.000 PPM of CO2. Do you have any experience reading lower numbers or does this not make sense (i'm thinking of 250-400 PPM (outdoor air))

The average ppm levels are 415ppm now. The only place you'd find 250ppm would be in air that's been scrubbed of CO2, not common outside of the world of rebreathers.

Did you? I just built an optimal VPD-controller(arduino), looking to maybe add co2 next.
