fun fact: their concerts are like 2 and a half hours long, anpanman is one of the last songs before the concert ends (that's why they're with comfy clothes just running around lol), the whole energy that we see in the second clip it's after 2 hours of performing, I really envy their stamina 😂😂😂😂😂
Guys its a "fun" song but the meaning of Anpanman is pretty deep! Anpanman was the main character in a picture book series by Japanese cartoonist Takashi Yanase. The series was turned into an animated cartoon series and has been airing on Japan’s NTV since 1988. It was also popular in Korea in the 1990s. Anpanman is a red bean bread man and the world’s weakest hero. He doesn’t have any superpowers like Batman or Superman, but is a kind hero who helps those in need and gives to hungry people pieces of his face, which is made out of red bean bread. If Batman and Superman are star heroes that can fly anywhere in a flash, Anpanman is a bourgeoisie hero who is always nearby and stays by your side for a long time.
BTS compare themselves to the character Anpanman. The artists said they wanted to convey their desire to give people hope through their music and performances in the song. By comparing themselves to not the world’s strongest hero, but the world’s weakest hero, BTS stays true to their message with the idea that rather than being a hero just because you’re strong, you can be a hero even if you’re weak. This may be the key point of “Love Yourself: Tear.” This album, which says that loving yourself is the start of true love, is not just talking about the part of you that is strong and that you’re satisfied with. It goes along with the message that even if you’re lacking and full of flaws, you must love your true self.
When people want something that they can’t have, there are people who lie and say, “I don’t want that.” Because they can’t have it, they say that they don’t want it in order to keep their pride.Those kinds of people may try to fool themselves into thinking, “I don’t want to be a superhero, I’m cool as it is.” However, if you look at the lyrics of “Anpanman,” they accept the fact that, “Being a really cool hero is my fantasy, but I’m not a superhero.” In the attitude of wanting to become a superhero and honestly admitting that you’re not one, you can feel self-esteem and self-love. This is BTS’s way of comforting others. They don’t warn others, “Don’t try to be a big superhero,” don’t tell lies such as, “I don’t want to be a superhero,” and don’t become discouraged but rather say, “I’m not a superhero but a human with nothing special.” “I’m a new generation Anpanman/ I’m a new superhero Anpanman” may be the lyrics that shine the most in the song. By announcing, “I’m a new superhero,” it gives the key to self-love and says that a weak hero is still a hero.
BTS is saying, “I’m Anpanman, the world’s weakest hero, and weak heroes are heroes too. I’m a new kind of superhero.” It’s a cool conclusion full of sincerity.Like the lyrics, “Waiting for you Anpanman/ Will you muster up a bit more strength/ I’ll be your strength,” BTS follows the model of Anpanman who has nothing to offer to others, so gives them a part of his face (red bean bread). He’s a hero of a new generation, unlike Batman who is powerful and skillful.
Although Anpanman may be a hero full of mistakes and struggles, he knows that he’s the result of a baker who tried his best to create him, so he can confidently say that he’s a hero. Anpanman is a hero who may be soft, but certainly not weak.
So next time you hear a fun BTS song it very likely has a lot of hidden, more deeper nuances, depth and meaning to it. Would highly recommend you google the meaning behind each of their songs after you react to the song cos having that added knowledge/context would only make their songs a lot more interesting!
Just an FYI, this is NOT an opener song haha, their openers for this specific tour that this performance was from, are LITERAL BANGERS FULL HYPE SONGS (Dionysus, Not Today) this was the song they used to start the encore of their concert, bcs you know the concert is almost ending but they don't want to atmosphere to be sad or so.. so thats why they have this song part of the encore just to keep the energy & fun going.. BTS CONCERTS ARE LITERALLY A WHOLE RIDE OF EMOTIONS you guys should definitely see the entire thing some time you'll absolutely enjoy it !!

If I remember correctly anpanmans superhero ability is to give others energy or strength ( something like that ) he does this by offering a piece of himself ( like he takes apart some bread from his body and gives it the person to eat ) by doing this he us giving them strength but at the same time he is given away a part of himself all the time he is "giving someone strength" ( he is becoming less bread, if you understand ) but he is happy doing this because he likes helping people even if he will disappear one day ( Correct me if I'm wrong on the information ). I think bts is saying they are a new generation anpanman because they give people strength and energy from their songs, thus being a different kind of hero but they still feel a connection and similarities to anpanman.

The lights are BTS official lightsticks called "Army bombs", every kpop group has an official lightstick for fans to purchase and they change colors and make designs in the crowd. Also for this concert Anpanman was actually performed towards the end of the concert and they still have so much energy. They rarely show that they are tired onstage but the moment they go backstage they show their exhaustion. There has been footage of them literally collapsing backstage and needing supplemental oxygen because they push themselves too hard sometimes.

one of my favorite songs (along with "GO GO" I like that both have fun choreographies, they wear colorful clothes but the lyrics have a lot of social criticism. GO GO has an ICONIC and MEMORABLE performance called: [BANGTAN BOMB] GOGO 'Dance Practice (halloween version) the boys are all dressed in costumes and their "acting" during the performance is really really fun, I believe it's worth the reaction) I love Anpanman's performance at Today citi music series, this was aired on TV but the group's channel bangtantv posted the video on TH-cam, Anyway it would be fun if you watched it even off camera
