I came back over to rewatch this episode so I could learn a little bit more about the raised beds you put together.
You have no idea how much I appreciate both of you, all of you. No drama, or pretense, just good people.
Some of us live alone and it’s great to watch your family and pretend we are a distant relative coming for a visit.
    God bless you.

My kids tell me I’m a hermit. I just love to be at home. I can sit on the back porch swing or the front porch swing. Listen to the birds or just play music. Dorothy had it right, “There’s no place like home.” Have a good week.

When my first grandchild came along. I felt like I could not love a baby any more than I love my children. I think we honestly all feel that way at first. But when my son handed my granddaughter to me for the first time. I felt as if I had a chamber in my heart. That had never been touched and was so full of love for this baby alone that it was just a miracle.

      @@CelebratingAppalachia Finally, BOYS !!!!!
Loved having Daddy's girls no doubt. It shows. Thing is he has been all these years being a girl daddy, Lord is saying you did beautifully, and your reward is coming. Got doubled bless with Twin girls from the gate, and now near twin grandsons for Papaw.
He and Austin will have a hoot of fun chasing these boys, tossing footballs, teaching them to bat, and fish at the creek, looking for rubbings from the bucks.
It'll be great times for all four men.

Grand kids are something special in your heart you will know it when it hits you. Just yesterday out to dinner with mine and our 1 1/2 year got off her chair got her blanket put her pacifier in her mouth came over to me (Nana) and looked up and me with her wide eyes and held her arms up. Si I picked her up and held her just our heartbeats together was something else. She laid her head on my shoulder and gave a big sigh of relief. What a heavenly feeling like no other. I have a great idea your Christmas gifts could be used for yard toys for the boys lol. Blessings to you all ❤️🙏❤️

I’m so glad Granny is doing so well. Her story regarding her heart problems sounds just like my sister’s. She had strep throat when she was 13 yrs. old and it developed into rheumatic fever which damaged her heart. She had an artificial valve put in and did great until she was 27 years old. She had a hysterectomy then and a blood clot developed. The dr. said when the blood clot hit the valve it sent it to her brain. She was in a coma for about a week and then passed away. I know taking blood thinner is really hard but I’m glad Granny is able to take it and do well. She’s such a special lady.

The round beds would be good for us and the bags you did some potatoes in. My husband brought I some onion sets and some slips. Some sets are already out in a wash tub. He puts a glass storm door over them on cold nights. Every time he pulls some up to eat, he puts more sets out. He is putting slips in a very small garden spot so we can let them grow and pull up to hang and dry for winter eating.

My Dad said if I could find a poodle for $15 we could get it. Even back 55 years ago he thought that would be unlikely. Well determination paid off and I found what turned out to be our family dog that we all cherished. Sort of like you finding a horse under a creek rock I guess. A few years back I told someone that I had never been to Nashville and had no desire to ever go. Not too long after that a friend of ours wrote a children’s book and included my daughter as one of the characters. The book release party was held in Nashville and we couldn’t get there fast enough. We just got a Vego Garden modern bed this spring. Easy to assemble and it looks sharp in our front yard. We are slowly working to convert an ornamental yard into edible and pollinator gardens. We're city kids and surrounded by perfectly manicured lawns, so everything feels like a big experiment. It's fun and the feeling of growing your own food is incomparable. ❤

  • @susanw8471
    @susanw8471 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Back when the kids we're a little we move to a property that was surrounded on three sides by woods. In the fall and as usual you raked all the leaves and put them in piles but we put them in piles in the woods. Great fun for the kids and the neighbors kids. We also went around and scooped up leaves further back in the woods and just made mounds of leaves here and there in protected areas. It was a lot easier than trying to put leaves in bags. We just pulled the leaves on the tarps and then pulled on one end until all the leaves rolled out into piles. Two or so years later I went back and checked to see how it was going underneath and there was already compost that I could dig out from underneath and start using here and there. About 5 years later I stopped having to buy gardening soil and just supplemented with that and dry grass and fresh leaves as in logs as you do and the bottom of the grow bags or bins. I still do that today as my holler is surrounded on all sides with trees with just a narrow driveway. The woods are also a great place to purposefully grow mushrooms. Compost piles are worth their weight gold and it's been my experience you really don't have to do as much work with them as people may think. Even if you just stack bagged leaves and go back to them even in 6 months you will see a lot of decomposition.

Those are really nice raised beds Matt put together for you. I’m so glad to hear Granny is doing so well! God is faithful in answering all the prayers on her behalf. Enjoyed the stories of the baby showers Matt had to attend for you. Now days in our area the husband is always present for the baby shower. They do it for wedding showers too. They call it a Couple’s shower. It was a little odd at first, but now I’ve attended so many over the past 15 years I think it’s odd when the groom/husband isn’t there. It is fun to watch the men because one can tell they feel a little out of place being in the center of attention, but after five or ten minutes they start to come around and seem to enjoy it. Tipper tell Matt to get a mini cow. Another TH-camr I watch has one on his homestead and he ties it up all around his homestead to eat grass, weeds so he don’t have to mow those areas of his yard. It’s Brian on Next Level Homestead. Brian’s wife Emily is more behind the scenes working on the videos, but she makes an appearance once in a while. They live out west, but still very interesting to watch. Brian is the gardener and also has a channel on gardening called Next Level Gardening. Both channels are interesting to watch. Anyway, you might want to check out miniature or dwarf cows to consider. Great video as always! Thanks for letting us hangout!

I had seen garden beds like those in videos in other countries. I was trying to figure out what I could do to make some. checking prices for material an all. I woke up one morning and felt God saying you have the stuff in the back shed. When I first moved to this property there was a swinging pool. I had taken it down, and like I always have I saved it. So I went out, measured the length I wanted. Some I cut in half long ways some I cut in 3rds. I had kept the screws. I made round beds mainly to keep the spreading plants contained. Like mints. I have 7 or 8 different mints out there. I made 19 round beds. I had some friends bring me their pool metal. I made 5- 4x8 beds from that too. My final one I made from 3-8' pieces of corrugated roofing. The round ones are 36" across. Now to read how Matt did the greenhouse if I can find a place to put it. I really like watching your gardening area grow. I will send you my woodchuck. He loves my dill and cabbage. :)

One or two of the raised beds may end up being a storage bin for little boy’s toys …. and you’ll probably think oh, that’s better use of them than what I could plant. 😂

Good work! From the picture it looks like the domed Phillips head should face the outside. I'd suspect the acorn nuts would face the inside top two rows just as decoration if not buried in the soil. I like the handcrafted tin roof ones. Come-on spring!

I have 4 of the large round beds, 48" round and 34" high! They are much larger put together than I realized! We fill the bottom with logs, leaves, cardboard which the worms love to eat and compost from the chickens before adding extra soil. Last year I used one for bush lima beans and they were so pretty spilling over the sides. Another I used for potatoes. We also have 4 of the 6' long and 34" high beds that are filled with veggies. Yes, they are pricey being so big but I think over time I will appreciate not having to bend over so much to garden, even though I do have many other garden beds in ground! Enjoy your gardening this year!

You can do Hugelkultar. You just put wood and debris in the bottom of the bed so you dont need all that dirt and save some money:)

I bought 2 Vigo kits last year: I made an herb bed out of 4 side pieces an then a long bed with 3 side pieces on each side and no side pieces on the ends (have 2 sides left: that'll be for the next kit!). Put the square one next to my back door for an herb bed and the long one is alongside the garage in the same grass strip as my blackberry bush that I'm going to try for beets and carrots and bush beans this year.

Congratulations on your upcoming blessings, the excitement must be really getting unbearable by this point 😊. I had a really tough pregnancy with my oldest daughter, and they wound up inducing my labor 6 weeks early due to dangerous high blood pressure. I was in the hospital 4 long days with stop and go labor before she was finally born. My mom, a grandmother of 6, said she prayed for the baby but she prayed for me more, I was appalled at her and asked how she could say that, as I would have gladly given my life for my daughter, she said because you are MY baby and I couldn’t bear the thought of losing you, even for your own baby 😭. That’s been 20 years ago, and mom’s been gone almost two years now, but I’ll never forget her saying that. There is nothing like a mother’s love. ❤

I have a guy who composts the city's leaves. He rotates pile every year. I usually get two or three pickup truck loads. I use the compost, a little peat moss, 2 cups worm castings, 2 handfuls of blood meal and bone meal. Went the other day and got me 600 pound rabbit manure. Best fertilizer there is. All this goes in my 4'x8' raised beds.

In my area, we have a couple of bark and gravel companies that also sell garden soil. They sell by the yard (whatever that means - I can never figure the math of how much I need) and they load your truck or trailer with a tractor bucket. The price has gone up quite a bit since lockdowns, but it's still cheaper than bagged soil, which I also buy on occasion. Either way, I have to wheelbarrow it from the front to the back of the house. I also found that their bulk soil seemed a little lean and could use some amendments.
Since my beds are mostly roughly hip-high, I too filled them with rotting wood, branches, lawn clippings, and even paper recycling in one. They do sink down every year by a few inches. It might be worth it to you to call around and see if there's a bark and gravel business that sells garden soil nearby.
Another source for fill are horse stables. If you can find one that has hills of aged manure and that doesn't treat their fields with grazon, I've found that to be pretty fine fill, but can stay wet longer than I like. Works great as a mix, though. One near me fills my little trailer for free.
Thank you, Miss Tipper, for another entertaining video! Prayers for the family and God bless!

I love having coffee with you guys. Matt's face when you mentioned the baby shower was so funny. I enjoy sitting in my greenhouse during the winter months. We're not as damp as you guys are in the winter, so there's no dripping, but I do have a 100 gallon stock tank in there with koi, so that keeps the humidity up.

Here in Texas last Sunday we had snow. Saturday our temps got up to 32. Today Monday is going to be 70. The gardening bug has hit hard, but i know it's going to get cold again.
I found that with my grandbabies, as opposed to my kids, i realized that i wasn't so worried about the "spilled milk". Just so much more patience. I now have 3 great grandbabies.
It's so awesome realizing the bloodline continues on.
Y'all are gonna be in hog heaven when the littles get here!
