• The Stranglers - Peach...
MORE Stranglers please one of the best UK bands ever.
JJ Burnell is one of the greatest bass players out of the UK
I was there that day. Free concert at the end of a "Rock Against Racism"/"Anti Nazi League" march. Peter Garbriel and The Skids were the support acts. For "Nice'n'Sleazy" they brought on a couple of strippers.
I was there too. It wasn't free, as I still have my ticket which was £4! Was a lot when you're 13 :)
Loved the way this tune went right over both of your heads...
I was thinking exactly the same 😂 She looked surprised when he said "oh sh*t", but completely missed all the other stuff and what this song is really about.
A clueless pair by the looks . . .
I don't think it did, they are just well-mannered and polite.
Cheers 🍺
@stefanconradsson imma brit from that era, and believe me it went way over there heads...
“Just keep smiling…..just keep smiling…..DON’T STOP SMILING!!”
Their first 4 real albums are amazing 👏
"Meninblack" is a surreal masterpiece!
Everything before aural sculpture
J.j is one of the bed bass players ever and black belt in Karate . The dancing playing the bass was J.J.S thing . ♥️ Stranglers ✌️
@@Katehowe3010 haha...yes, surreal is the world! Cool sh*t!
Great band check no more heroes. Hanging around. Golden brown. All great tunes
Always the sun is also a banger. As is the entire rattus norvegicus album.
They never caught on in the states , maybe something to do with their name and they had all of their equipment stolen when touring there but they had a very loyal fanbase in the UK even though they were hated on in the media and by the authorities, the best band the UK has ever produced and yes , I am one of those loyal fanbase.
I loved them as did most of my friends in Mass in the 80s
My neighbor Fr London couldn't believe I knew who they were
It's" straighten out "time in England 🇬🇧
There are SO many Stranglers songs you could and should react to! Golden Brown, Punch and Judy, Strange Little Girl, London Lady, Hanging Around, Something Better Change, and many more.
The Stranglers. JJ Burnell ranks as one of the greatest bass players. Take a look at their single " Nice n Sleazy " That base drives life. These guy's are damn good.
The Stranglers were
Hugh Cornwall. Lead singer.
JJ Burnell. Bassist.
Dave Green ( RIP ). Keyboard's.
Jet Black ( RIP ). Drummer.
This is the classic Stranglers lineup.
Just about the thickest filthiest bass lines ever played. Probably my favourite thing about the Stranglers.
Bought the album back in the 80’s. One of the greatest tracks I’ve ever heard.
Go buddy go from this live performance is fantastic
Boogieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Fantastic band live, even now 👏🏼
Brilliant day out,hot weather,Jonny Rubbish,The Skids ,Concorde flying overhead and The Stranglers headlining.
The table you see are stretchers carried by St. John's ambulance who were there to deal with any accidents or emergencies.. It was a very hot day in glorious sunshine and there were a few flaking out in the crowd as I was there and it was awesome :-)
Great to see one from the 1978 Battersea show. Fantastic first 4 albums
Anybody who likes a Stranglers song is worth a subscription !
Amazing musicians. Interesting back story . Worth delving in .
You know the woman in the song doesn't want to date the guitarist, only the pianist baby
This is the gig that made the newspaper headlines...."stranglers in nude shock horror" nice n sleazy is when the strippers turned up.great days.
Blimey, my brother went to see The Stranglers a few weeks ago, he has been a fan since the mid/late seventies, they are still going albeit with a few replacements. Golden Brown was my favourite Stranglers track.
Seeing the sad and recent passing of their drummer Jet Black R.I.P
:-( you should do a reaction to their classic cover of walk on by as it shows the band at their superb best :-)
Stranglers - Nice n sleazy ... video Dailymotion live 1978 😁👌
you had to be there,, the time, the place, the vibe... so good............
I was at that show…. Amazing day!!! Stranglers supported by Peter Gabriel and the Skids. Nice n Sleazy was an eye opener for me as a 14year old lolol
I'll bet🤣
Their hit song Golden Brown was number 2 on the UK charts and was close to being number 1 when bass player Jean-Jacques Burnel told the press that it was about heroin. So it didn't make it. Singer and guitar Hugh Cornwall wished Burnel wouldn't have said anything. On both Peaches and Golden Brown there are some amazing keyboards by Dave Greenfield RIP. Golden Brown are delightly decadent
I like it from Dub Pistols: Dub Pistols 'Peaches' feat. Rodney P & Terry Hall
Best punk ever
I was there ,, great day
JJ Burnel wrote this aged 15yrs old..❤
Americans and English Punk- hahahaha. Im glad you liked them but they have a seriously HUGE catalogue of songs to check out and I would suggest the first 5 or 6 albums.
Great job 👏 get more music like 999 and buzzcocks and Gang of Four and the undertones
Listening to the Stranglers on vinyl is like going to the Zoo to see wild animals. They were always at their best when playing live. Actually, they royally fucked this song up, as it was supposed to have been a reggae number, but still one of the fans favourite. The growling bit at the end was him getting off on the beach bunnies. Jet Black’s drumming was what made the song ‘groovy’ and Dave Greenfield’s keyboards just gives it class. I’m glad that the pair of you can appreciate good music when you hear it 🫶🫶
There's the infamous live version of 'nice and sleazy' from this gig but you'll be lucky to find it on TH-cam. But you can find it on Google...it's epic ;-)
I have it on DVD - 'The Stranglers Greatest Hits on CD and DVD'. Well worth it ;)
This was the first time The Stranglers had played in London for over a year. They had been refused a performing licence in the London area for over a year because of their perceived misogyny and sexism - as shown in the lyrics of this song. They managed some illicit bookings but spent most of the time touring the rest of the UK, At this comeback gig they deliberately exacerbated the image problem by bringing on strippers (male and female) and a man with a whip during Nice & Sleazy.
Always reminds me of watching Keith Floyd on TV, his intro music was Waltzinblack (also by the Stranglers) and end credits was Peaches. What sort of TV program had such music? A cookery show! Seriously! Always immaculately attired Floyd in his suit and bow tie would commandeer kitchens all over the world (and where there was no kitchen he had his trusty camping stoves or he just made a fire) always with an irreverent take on local or National affair and politics and more often than not his own film crew all the while chugging down glass after glass of wine, causing utter chaos and having a great old time.
If I remember right, Floyd was a matradee at a restaurant where, I'm assuming, Dave Greenwood was providing lounge music for the diners. They became mates and let Floyd use their music on his TV show later on.
@@danweaver5626 it actually was Hugh Cornwall who started out playing Spanish guitar to the diners in Floyd’s first restaurant in Bristol before the stranglers even got together
Always classed as a punk band (more with attitude really) but great instrumentally. No more heroes, hanging around, something better change, walk on by (cover) and golden brown all worth a listen
The first Post Punk album.
That was Saint John's Ambulance medics with a stretcher you saw not a table,,I was on road crew for the Stranglers and the Damned.
I was there. I was kicked off the march by the police for wearing steel cap boots but I just sneaked back onto the march and then into the concert great times.
Jet Black tried to play a reggae beat here but couldn't get it quite right . Ended up getting something better.
Still playing live - next years 50 years on - go see them
Only one of the original line up but Baz Warne did bring back some of the rawness.
Nice reaction. If you liked this, you might care to check out the more upbeat Get a Grip and/or Go Buddy Go from the same gig.
I was at that concert! They were getting quite a lot of stick for sexist lyrics (this song being an example of targeted anger), I think there were protesters in or outside the event. In true Stranglers style, they hired some strippers to disrobe as they did Nice 'N' Sleazy, it's on You Tube!
Check out ' toiler on the sea' off the black & white album or genetix off the raven album as burnel puts that bass through the grinder ;-) nice and sleazy is a banger as well ;-)
the liggly guy is JJ Burnel, 7th dan Karate, still playing that mean bass!
Heard he whacked a heckler with his guitar in Brisbane and kept playing, the heckler shut up x_x.
@@goannaj3243 In his early, angry days he took on numerous audience members. Love the guy!!
My mate roadied for the Stranglers. How time moves on
The concert was in France and I'm sure them and the damned had a wee fight
Nice n sleazy
No one truly deserves The Stranglers, and they knew it.
Great channel guys !
The only song that mentions a Charabanc (shara-bang) which was an early bus which made every boy learn a new word.
* Early Coach ! An early Bus was a Bus !
Great band , many many big hits , check out best of album, not a bad track
This is massive in England
I don't think they quite get it yet.
They didn't play this version on uk radio 1 for sure
Aint that the truth.
they are still going on,but without the lead singer ,i have spoken with him a couple of years ago and without him it is not the stranglers ,not a Londoner myself but their early songs was amazing
thewre is only one strangler left that is burnel the bass player it a bloody shame
I guess you won’t be reacting to ”Bring On The Nubiles” then? 😊
I was there 😊
Bass player JJBurnel is in my opinion King of the Punks , he has never ever compromised , the amounts of times he has had it with some dickhead in the audience showering him with drink, hes the real deal , 5th or 6th dan in Karate , many of us took up karate because of him , i,m a third dan in shotokan myself ))
You were shocked when Hugh said "shit" but you didn't even flinch when he said "clitoris", Suzie? I guess that one went right over your head.
The BBC banned the song as it had the word shit in the lyrics, made them record a new version for radio. BBC missed the "clitoris, liberation for women." So the new version still kept the lyric. BBC has standards to upkeep.
@@patthehorse - If that radio-friendly version is the one Planet Rock Radio plays, then the BBC went even further because in the line "Looks like I'm gonna be stuck here the whole Summer, oh what a bummer!" the word "bummer" was replaced by "Summer"!
not a typical Strangers song, Something better change, 5 minutes are others to check out
No More Heroes
Your next one by The Stranglers ?
🇬🇧🎶🤘🏼☀️
Brilliant band, listen to "No more Heroes"!!
Justin is when he's arriving justout is when he's leaving
Pull the lyrics up to Peaches and see what you missed.
Put your hat on right way round unless you're playing firemen with your mates
It’s a stretcher they are carrying
Nice n sleazy at this concert was rather..... visual. Footage is deemed too adult for YT these days. Great tune anyway though.
Looked like a stretcher being carried through the crowd.
Good to see u expand those brain cells
looks like you did not hear a words in the song, listen again and not the music
Looked like a stretcher.
I remember seeing the gig at the time and I'm convinced it's a stretcher
I was there..it was bloody hot..lol
Few people flaking out so St John's were busy ;-)
Was that your version of a musical analysis? Really? Fuk me blind. :|
Yeah i was up elaine last night !!!
They have no idea about anything to do with the song😱
You 2 people have no clue what this song is about! if you want to grow your ? platform, ask questions engage with the people who post and the people that watch.
I apologise to you 2 people I slagged you off no excuse!! I was wrong keep going and I hope you guys are good,
Kind regards ned.
You dont really know what your listening too, clitarrous!!
