  • Red Bull's Helmut Marko reveals an "explosion" in the F1 driver market over the Japanese GP weekend, with Carlos Sainz's performances pushing multiple teams into action. Aston Martin are reportedly interested in Sainz to replace Fernando Alonso, while Audi are set to make a large offer to attract his services. Mercedes confirm W15 upgrades for Lewis Hamilton and George Russell for Imola.

Aston Martin knows Fernando isn’t loyal to build with them, like Lando is to build with McLaren. They know if a better seat comes along he’s gone. So they’d probably rather a younger driver looking to come in and being the unofficial main driver next to the bosses son.

Sainz to Aston sounds the most reasonable. They are on rise and with the Honda engine in 2026 and Lowrence money and ambition to be a F1 winner makes then an intresting choice for Sainz. He will also be the favoured driver in Aston since Lance is a bit all over the place

AMR might have to take on Tsunoda as part of an agreement with Honda to get engines in 2026. Also, if Verstappen decides he wants to move, he's moving to Aston Martin. The entire driver market right now is hinging on Verstappen and Red Bull, even though no one is mentioning his name except Toto. If Verstappen wants out, every driver in F1 is going to want that seat, and every team is going to want Verstappen.

If Alonso gets kicked out instead of Stroll Aston will lose all accountability, you don't kick your (far) better driver, if Alonso finds another sit by his will and Stroll stays along with a new driver, that's another thing (although Alonso/Sainz at Aston and Stroll out sounds good to me and seems far better for Sainz that going to Audi, a newcomer)

    • @Duval-In-The-Wall

Aston already lost their accountability when they threw away the easiest top 4 finish you will ever see to McLaren of all teams 😂
“You don’t kick out your better driver”- get with the program mate, that’s what this team does
In 2018 we dropped our future talent in Ocon for STROLL
In 2020 we dropped Perez in order to keep STROLL
In 2022 Vettel retired but surely he was sick of his existence after we finished 7th TWICE
So yeah, the better driver has left FI/RP/AM the last 3 times, and we had the consistent Hulkenberg as our fucking reserve
It’s a past “we” btw, been a supporter for 15 years but last year broke me
Honestly I wouldn’t wish 6 years of the Strolls on anyone, their incompetence could bring down an empire, even Red Bull

Mercedes is not solving a technical car problem, they are trying to solve Lewis lack of confidence problem.
That's why they are clueless on what to do, as they are not working on an engineering problem but a psychological one.
That's why they have no choice but to run and try various setup configuration on Lewis car until they could figure out what Lewis' actually want from the car.
George doesn't need to do that because he can adapt to the car much quicker.
George's only problem is that everytime Mercedes tried to introduce something to the car to help Lewis, he had to readjust and make compromises which offset his own progress.
That's what happened last year when Mercedes shifted the car development direction to favor Lewis' preferences.

O.596sec Wtf What an effort by the Scuderia Rosso to catch that much time on the same Circuit over 6 months is light speed in terms of pace, by Abu Dhabi at that rate they’ll be 1.4sec a lap or ok got it -0.804sec a lap quicker than Red Bull. At that pace they’ll win the race, all things being equal, so Ferrari would win that race by 46 seconds. I’ll be there with my son and I’d love to see that, statistics although somewhat fascinating leave a lot to be desired sometimes cause if Ferrari or Mclaren between them win more than 7 races, sprints included I’ll be shocked to say the least. 😮

I didn’t say Benz cause I knew they’d be shit cause why else would Lewis leave, not the money, he’s got plenty, it’s all about no. 8 well 9 really, anyone deny that no, didn’t think so. So Lewis will get no. 8 if the Ferrari is half as good as it is now, and the fact it’s gonna be better again must thrill Max cause him and Lewis have great respect but race hard and they love it their the best two on the grid and ticket prices will double and the circuits will still overflow cause like it, hate it everyone wants to see Lewis win a World Championship in Scuderia Rosso #44, it’s gonna be epic. Phew ok all good now Sainz with Alonso, I’ll be upset if Toto doesn’t pop Albon in the Benz, even though the Williams could be the better car, Albon deserves a payday, he gets a pathetic mill, for the season compared to Max £50mill, and Lewis £100mill at Ferrari, poor Alex, I’d sue Toto if I didn’t get the seat, he was paid more at Benz for his simulator work than his seasons at Williams and he supports all his family and pets, oh what car does he drive, a Renault ?

It’s classic flavor of the month with F1 fans, memory of a goldfish. At the start of 2023 people thought Perez was going to fight for the WDC, Stroll was good, Ocon was a top driver, Norris was overrated, and that Piastri made a mistake with McLaren
Later that year suddenly Gasly and Albon deserved top seats, Norris was good again, Russell was a top driver- no wait he sucks- no wait he’s a top driver
Last season Ricciardo qualified P4 and everyone was saying “sack Perez on the plane” now they want him sacked
Magnussen was useless, now he’s quality. People forget Hulk and Bottas exist
Currently, apparently Sainz will be able to challenge Verstappen (lmao) and Leclerc was never that good (LMAO), Hamilton is finished (lmao), Tsunoda deserves a Red Bull seat (LMAO), Ocon/Gasly basically don’t exist
80% of all opinions are completely dependent on car performance. If Haas and Sauber suddenly got cars that were as good as the McLaren, watch people start talking up Magnussen and Bottas again 😂😂

Tell me about it. Memory doesn’t go back even more than 2 races. All you have to do is look at the comments section for each race highlights vid, you get a time capsule of where the fanbase was at the time. It changes a RIDICULOUS amount
I get bashed for being “stubborn” but the truth is I have something called MEMORY
No, I don’t believe Sainz is Verstappen-level, because the last time he out-qualified a teammate across a season was Kvyat in 2017
I don’t believe Tsunoda is suddenly amazing because I watched Gasly mop the floor with him as teammates, and he has been against the weakest drivers on the grid since
I don’t think Alonso is capable of challenging Max either, because he genuinely had to stretch every sinue he has just to barely beat Ocon as teammates
I don’t believe Leclerc is “inconsistent” in fact, he has a streak of 11 top 5 finishes in races he was allowed to finish. Even in what is a bad spell for him, his average finish is 3.25
I believe Norris is the real deal, because he’s out-qualified every teammate he’s ever had, and his teammates were Sainz, Ricciardo and Piastri, constantly scores podiums and outperformed the Alonso/Ocon duo in a slower car in 2022
I believe Hulkenberg is underrated, because that man jumps in a car with zero practice and puts a result on the board like he did at Racing Point, or missing 3 years and beating his teammate by 5-6 tenths on his comeback at Haas. People do not realize how much that team upgraded their driver lineup in 2 years
I’ve been watching F1 for 15 years, fans may forget easily, but the people in charge do not

Mercedes, as a team with a rich Formula 1 history, has been actively collecting data for the past three years. While they have achieved significant success over the last eight years, there seems to be a recent struggle to maintain their dominance and avoid falling into the midfield ranks. It is unclear what has happened to the wealth of data accumulated during their winning streak, especially considering the departure of Niki Lauda.
