This is the best rendition of our Anthem ever done! Whitney had a power house of a voice and it was so effortless for her. This has always been the most beautiful and powerful rendition ever done. I don’t believe it will ever be bypassed by another singer.❤
I am not American, but the first time I ever heard Whitney sing this, and the faces of the proud American's in the audience, it made me want to learn about America and also the history of the wording of their national anthem. I recommend to anyone who wants to know more, to research why the anthem is worded the way it is. You will be awed and amazed (seriously). It made me realise why American's are so patriotic.
Guys as an American a black American no matter how I may feel sometimes this performance always reminds me on how far I’ve come and where I’m going. I truly love my country! Thanks to Whitney for blessing us with this reminder. This will always be the greatest version ever. It’s like God was standing next to her singing as well.

lol... Of course she sang it just as she would normally :).. all those near her would have heard it wonderfully...... i didn't believe it but further research has proven that the recording played in the stadium was indeed a pre recorded track, but nevertheless she belted it out as she would have always

Rickey Minor, who was Houston's musical director in 1991, confirmed in 2012 that while Houston had sung the anthem live, the audience had heard a pre-recorded version of the song.

Goosebumps and tears, always when I watch this. It's so hard not to be sad when we think about her struggles that ended her life way too soon. We thank her for the great music that she left us with. Continue to RIP, Whitney
Because of Whitney, I get to know the USA anthem, realized the great spirit of American, Whitney’s voice is truly incredible and powerful!❤❤❤ btw I am Taiwanese and I am so grateful for the huge support from USA to help Taiwan being democratic and prosperous.
The whole thing about the pre-recorded bit is that they do this to everyone who sings the anthem (at the Super Bowl at least). Everyone tries to make it such a scandal. She recorded this in 1 take. Also, you can tell she's singing it regardless by the bulging veins on her neck, sweat on her upper lip that she always got when singing live. I love that long note at the end. Nobody realizes how hard that must be to hold it that long at the end of that song and not waver:)
And that's what separates Whitney THE VOICE Houston and these wannabe vocalists/studio fabrications 😂 Her voice was stable throughout her range with unmatched breath control and she'd pure POWER & TONE none comes close
It was prerecorded as the NFL demanded. She did record it one time straight thru however one and done. The NFL also didnt like the version thought it was to different. In no way do I want to take away from her part of the performance. I have listened to it several times. But I think the arrangement is outstanding, which makes her even more outstanding performance incredible. Many people, even football fans hardly remember who played or won the SuperBowl that year. But almost everyone knows who sang the National Anthem. BTW, the reaction you did on The Star Spangled Banner was great, but in all fairness, the creators of that video celebrating FREEDOM, took lots of LIBERTY from the truth in their story telling. The recording of this performance raised more than $500,000 for the Gulf War crisis fund. Many artists have tried to recreate a similar super bowl anthem, but there was only one Whitney. Gone too soon, may she rest in peace🙏❤️🙏
Every artist pre-records their superbowl performance because of the unpredictability of the massive technical umdertaking. Because it was Whitney, it created a "controversy" where there was none.

Yes it was common practice and it still is in most cases to prerecord the vocal to avoid the technical issues that could arise from such a big live, outdoor production. Because of the controversy her tv special “Welcome home heroes” was already scheduled to be televised on HBO a few weeks later. So to quiet the naysayers she opened the show with a live version of the National Anthem which she started completely acapella. This version turned out to be just as good if not better than the Super Bowl version.
