- Sunday started like so many Sundays before with no hint of the wonders about to unfold.
Following weeks of rain, food resources are waning and our bats are starting to take risks just to keep themselves fed.
Following a marathon effort by Mel and Bec to attend a barbed wire rescue in a flooded outer Brisbane suburb, this 58 gram adult female Eastern Tube-nosed bat has come into our care.
Whilst we would all give our eye teeth not to have her in care, the reality is that so many wildlife species are caught on barbed wire.
A massive thank you to the property owners for systematically removing the barbed wire on their newly acquired property and to Bec and Mel for their tenacious spirit saving this little miracle.
As an adult female, she is probably pregnant and the plan is to have her released back to the wild well before she gives birth in mid to late November.

I'll admit I clicked in this thinking,"Gee, that's a nifty looking flying fox...."
She is, in fact, a very exquisite squeaky puff, and I hope her baby is birthed successfully!
Her name should be "Dottie" Thanks so much for caring for her and thanks especially to the folks who took that dreadful barbed wire fence down so this does not happen again. Much love

So exciting! Isn't she gorgeous? Very different skull and tooth anatomy and I love their mottled wings. I hope she recovers fully.
It’s a nearly identical skull, the only difference is going to come down to dental formula and that nose shape. Otherwise this little creature is the basically the same as any other flying fox.

She's much darker than the tube-noses I've seen before--a Chocolate Tubie! I'm so glad she'll recover safely. Their babies are just adorable.

When it Said rarest of the rare i knew it would be a tube-nosed. I love the tubies. They are Some of my favorite.
They didn’t specify what made her rare in this video, so I was left scratching my head. They said she was a flying fox fruit bat, so that sounded normal on what they rescue to me.
Are you saying that what her face looks like is normal? To me, it looked like she had suffered facial damage from the barbed wire, so that worried me. And all of those yellow dots she had on her wings… Was that damage she suffered and they put medicine on them to heal?
@@anti-ethniccleansing465 if you look in the 'description', Batzilla writes that she is an Eastern tube nosed bat, which are much less common. Her face, and the yellow spots, are normal for this type of bat. I love them, they look a bit like the character Shrek.

@@anti-ethniccleansing465 this species of bat is rare to get in care. In the 3-4 years i have followed this channel i have seen them post about 2 or 3.

I love little Tube Nosed bats. They always seems so gentle. She's adorable and know she will get the best of care and the perfect name.
She seems relaxed, though I gather that the tubies can be stressy when in care; that's a relief! Thanks to the rescuers, and to the new property owners for remediating the barbed-wire problem.

Her tinyness escaped me. I looked up her weight, she’s around half the size of a Syrian hamster. Adorable ❤️

She is adorable, definitely different than what we see in your rescues. So fascinating to see a completely different variety. Bravo to the home owners. You are amazing for helping these adorable bats
I've never seen one of these before! Such a beautifully unique face and skull structure! I'd guess that stronger jaw and more prominent teeth than one usually sees in a fruit bat are adapted to gnaw through the tougher outer shell of larger fruits like mellons, and, as mentioned, guava? Whatever the case, like all bats, this little lady is a breathtaking masterpiece of evolution, and she couldn't be in better hands while she recovers from her ordeal!
The tube nosed bats remind me so much of Shrek because of the shape of Shrek‘s ears matches the shape of their tube nostrils! Oh, and also because of how round and wide the jaw is, and their teeth!

As much as I'd love to see her baby, I'm hoping that she'll be back in the wild by the time she delivers in November. It all depends on her wing membrane and how it heals up.

Gosh but she's a cutie. I remember seeing Megabattie hosting one of these darlings and recognized her from the nose. One thing that really surprised me was those wing digit claws. I don't think I've seen a bat with claws on that part of their wing before. Fascinating and gorgeous!
The shape of the face and snout seems so strange when i'm only used to seeing flying foxes up close but her fur and speckled wings where so pretty! Hope everything goes well and that you can keep up with her refined palate!

What a beautiful baby! I’ve never even heard of her species and I live in Brissie too. It’s so sad how this year’s huge rainfall (and next year’s inevitable drought) affects these babies. You do wonderful work protecting bats and flying foxes and educating landowners.

They all have them, for camouflage, but every tubie has a unique pattern, like snowflakes. How cute is that?

So cute. I always talk about your channel when I’m with friends. Even though I’m in Europe I think it’s important that people stop thinking that bats are evil blood sucking creatures. In Europe we don’t have fruit eating bats and I must admit they aren’t so cute as the flying foxes or as this little lady. Ours are insect eaters and the eat a lot. The problem here is the insecticide that is distributed on the crops . If a bat eats lots of poisoned insects it will die. Sadly it’s always the little ones that get the shortest straw. It will be a long time coming before Europe stops using these poisons.
That’s why I like your channel so much. The cute bats with their funny human names. It’s heartwarming to see how much you care about these little flying fur balls. 😄

I have never seen a bat like her in my life and I'm totally fascinated - always with bats, how amazing they are (and how little habitat and food humans left for them, I hate it when animals struggle to survive day by day and people just paving and polluting the whole planet as they please) - what a lovely bat ❤️❤️❤️

@@rachaelthomas5840 Flying foxes and bats are the same. But not all bats are flying foxes. This one is a kind of megabat, which is also what a flying fox is, but it is not a flying fox
