Zia is known for many years for being charming and entertaining, but he seems really prickly in this series :)

I saw all these bridge programs and really enjoyed them. I like those where Jeremy Flint is commendation. There were others he commentated on that were quite light hearted - with some top class players.
It is marvelous to be able to see them again.

Glad you enjoyed it, Paul. Have you seen the New Tricks tournament series? If not, I'm sure you would enjoy it. You can watch at www.newtricksbridge.club or search new tricks bridge in TH-cam and select one of the tournament series videos (not the tutorials)

It was filmed in summer 1987 - I know, I was part of the crew. It went out on the BBC (2?).

Tony is such a Yorkshireman. "That Zia don't half talk a load of old twaddle don't he? Levitating in Nepal? You daft bugger! Never saw bloke floating in air win bridge 'and."

It would not be the same bidding in Puddleby on Marsh (which sounds like it in the Uk)..
They would be playing Acol, which uses a weak No Trump, 12-14 points, and not a strong No Trump,15-15 points.

I know that this is pre-1997, but how old is it exactly?

It's dated at the end of the programme (in Roman numerals), 1987 :)
