I have used Abeka’s science, history, math, language arts, and health/manners in different years from 1st-3rd grade and I think they are absolutely wonderful for my son! We will be starting third grade and plan to still use Abeka’s language arts and math but then I don’t expect to use Abeka anymore for several years for the older years. The Language arts program is strong, the science and history are welcoming and accessible to young minds while not being overwhelming to the parent, and for us, the math was an absolute perfect fit for my son and I am so thankful. It was exactly what we needed. I didn’t even know they had flashcards till now and the only thing he struggles a little with is math facts. We started with Singapore math (the classroom version) for kinder and first grade, but in first grade, Singapore started to lose my son and we switched to Abeka math, which he has been very responsive to and retains all of it with practical understanding. It may not be for everyone, but I think all of Abeka has a place on the shelf for some people, maybe just in different seasons. I wanted to continue with Abeka math past 3rd grade, but I don’t like the colors/visuals of the 4th grade and up books. If they update their product, I may change my mind. I plan to switch to Math U See, BJU Press Math, or Memoria Press Rod and Staff Math, depending on what my son needs, in case anyone was curious.

On a last note, I wanted to mention that I thought Abeka was very thorough and covered many details that other programs do not cover in their math, which was one of the reasons I was drawn to it, to include their conversions and Roman numerals. I also think that had I learned about the flashcards and reference pages from the beginning, my son would’ve never had any trouble with his math facts. Also, I agree with the science and history years being repetitive for the younger years, but I think it serves a purpose for retention and it doesn’t stay repetitive as they change their format and information from second grade to third grade. As I am not past the third grade though, I do not know how they structure it past that. Good luck and hope this helps, homeschool parents :)

Thanks for this through and honest review. We plan to use Abeka for preschool. My youngest is 2 almost 3. I have purchased a few of the preschool items already.😊

I went to a private school from 3rd grade to 8th grade and I agree with everything you are saying about abeka. It was very solid with language arts and grammar but lacked in writing. The history and science was exactly what you said. The same thing over and over again. I was bored the most with those subjects and walked away without a good understanding of them.

Thank you! I will definitely do that. Do you follow me on IG? I'll put something up on there in the next week. I'll work on getting something for YT as well. Thanks for asking.

What did you switch to for Science? My daughter is hands on experiments too but I just love how simple they teach Science so I am torn…

We originally switched to Master Books God's Design for the rest of elementary. This year we switched to Berean Builders, which we love for middle school. My instagram highlights many of the experiments we do with Berean Builders. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Currently using Abeka and totally agree with the phonics and math. What math did you switch to? Ty!

Thank you! Their phonic is solid! We switched to Singapore for Math and loved it. No doubt a huge mind shift because Singapore teaches the WHY, which is what I wanted. Thank you for watching!

I really like Singapore Math 2022. It's colorful, fun, and teaches the WHY. Jessica from Math with Purpose (can find her on Facebook) has a wealth of information on reaching elementary students. She is starting to put videos out on YT as well. I would definitely connect with her.

I grew up with math memorization too so that may be why I’m moving towards Abeka math so much and I’ve tired the good and beautiful, and math with confidence. Math with confidence explains why but way too many games. Good and beautiful was awful for us. Eh homeschool so many options.
