The line up with Luka/Kyrie, PJ, Grimes, Marshall and Lively/Gafford is insanely good in defense. It is key for some periods of the game where you can rest one of your starts and do not allow many points. Play off Luka has to be defensively ready to do not untangle in this team. Moreover, there is still one more movement that can be done in February...

Three things I observed during this game... most obvious to lest obvious 1. Gafford needs to start over Lively 2. Defense needs to be more consistent 3. Mavs play team ball better without this season's Luka
4:48 the only point in this highlight where the mavs was in a hurry to shoot the ball because the shot clock was running out. Without Luka this team plays alot faster and attack the opponent much earlier in the shot clock

He scored 4 points in the second half, wasn’t an efficient defender and missed a couple of clutch 3-point attempts without the “ball hog” being around to be the “obstacle” for him to shine (as many “fans” claim)? Is Luka also guilty of Dallas going from 24 points lead in the beginning of the third quarter against Denver to being 5 points behind about 3 minutes before the buzzer? Is Luka also guilty of the fact that Dallas almost blew 10 points lead in the last 2 minutes against Thunder with 3 turnovers and an awful defense? Dallas has actually the best group of players and one of the worst coaches.
Wow! Dallas is beating top teams in the West without Luka. Luka is just too ball dominant. Luka is a defensive liability. He’s dragging Mavs down etc.. etc… Yes, I hate how Luka plays sometimes but I would not get so delusional and say, “Mavs is better off without Luka”. What I noticed the most is that they are just executing the regular basketball play. This needs to be an eye opening experience for luka because I love the guy but his carelessness of the ball and complaining hurts this team. Just make the regular play and the flashy ones will come.
The Mavs need more size and better defense. Kyrie and Luka aren’t a good combination defensively and they have to be on the court. Boston and Milwaukee won because they have bigs that can shoot the ball (unlike Dallas)!! A player like Bobby Portis would help. Trade Hardy and Grimes for another 6’8”wing defender!! Dinwiddie is good enough on both ends of the court for all the bench minutes. Go get Cam Reddish and Lonnie Walker!!
How do you beat Denver (without 50 from Luka)? Lively and Gafford had 24/12, Joker had 33/17. He had the edge, but they put up good enough numbers to keep the advantage low. Then you have a good game from 2 or 3 others.

Didn’t you see his defensive play and his assists? Did u see these when THJ had a bad shooting day? Klay can help the team so much more than THJ even when he lays eggs on the floor. And when he has a good shooting day…. We don’t have to say much about that.

The issue now is he's not hitting the open shots consistently. I think it was a couple of games ago when he had four wide open shots from the corner and he missed them all. His shots are almost always too long now because he's shooting them flat for some reason.
