Great video! Please, please, please repost your video on color principles, color design and harmony. It's not available anymore, I saw part of it yesterday, but this morning, it's gone! It's also a great tutorial with lots of important principles. How could I see it again? Thanks again for your great teaching skills and sharing of knowledge.
I enjoy your art talks and demonstrations. There's always something to learn or think about. I bought your 2 lessons "keys to better illustrations and composition" and "design sources and composition." They're good. Past week watched/listened(while painting drawing) them 3 times for each. I'm interested in watching the other 2 you have on artstation.
I took 56 units of visual art classes at university, I learned mostly from watching other students work asking *them* questions and getting their advise. The instructors barely answered questions and only instructed us on the basic materials, theme and when assignments were due. Never heard of this at University. Books discuss some of these concepts but I didn't really get it, overhelmed with the other descriptions and discussions about how to paint. Thank you.
This was engaging and informative. I really like that your pen is almost always drawing or pointing at the subject matter. This and your Frazetta video helped me understand and better appreciate composition in looking at artwork. I was unnecessarily severe in my last comment. Thank you for taking my feedback. You’re a great teacher.
Interesting at 34:00 rhythm was discussed in the example with the birds, was wondering if there was anything that need ed to be done for the eye to encircle the picture around the focal point them an. The one with the man on the sailboat the triangles also have a pointing to the figure but a little surprised that the back of kennedy was left horizontally open for the eye to go out. Also can really tell from the photograph but after the eye reached kennedy the focal point why was done to help the eye encircle out and in back to it? Color or subtle lines
Yup, three years at Pratt back in the day, never heard anything like this.

I still don't quite understand, is the purpose of the dark connection to make the shape more complete? Or is it for some kind of visual effect?
The purpose is to create Unity the foremost principle of design
without which the entire composition does not hold together.
