Great work! not sure you need to coat woofers and will change effective acoustic impedance...

It’s a tough choice you are right - the main reason I did it here was to repair a discolouration in the aquaplas (a previous repair was made, where the aquaplas had cracked). A light coat of primer doesn’t add any significant weight difference, that will affect performance any more than differences in the surround dampening over time. I’ve done a lot of these, and tested with and without paint on the driver without any measurable or acoustic change and I only do it, If there is a valid reason, like here ;)

I would not take the risk of painting the woofers. It’s a golden rule of conservation to avoid doing anything that can’t be undone.
Painting could change the sound characteristics of the loudspeaker.

      @@robertyoung1777 Hi Robert
While i a agree to some extent, I would like to point out that I never use the word conservation, but rather restoration.
Also, As i've pointed out multiple places here the reason for painting the woofers are to visually blend in a repair to the aquaplas coating. The miniscule weight of the paint used is nowhere near enough to change the characteristics of the woofer outside the tolerances from the factory spec.

How do I remove the face plate on the JBL CENTURY to do an upgrade on the crossover

Glad you asked - I'll respond in 2 parts: 1st part:
With a minor heatgun and a good pair of japanese putty knives. Slowly heat up the foilcal and with the knife flat on the baffle you slowly with a steady force pres it underneath into the glue. You are heating up the glue. Keep the foilcal flat at all times, no bends or anything as you'll never get them out again. Store them on a piece of glass and you can reheat when you are done.
2nd part: please be aware that the crossover components by JBL are not electrolytic capacitors and therefore do not degrade over time. Moreover they are using values that are not common today. All of the crossovers i've had measured to specification without any issue. I would not upgrade the crossover as it makes the speaker a completely different animal. BUT you do you ;)

What paint did you use on the Aquaplas?

    • @SorenKoelbaek

Hi John, as the Aquaplas had a tear which was repaired with glue previously, and the glue had miscoloured the surrounding aquaplas, I gave it a light coat of spraypaint: specifically Montana Primer.

whats the method you used to disconnect the wires?

    • @SorenKoelbaek

The wires are soldered to the crossover in one end and on the tweeter they are connected using spade connectors, so a careful pull will get them off. On the midrage and woofer the terminals are push terminals, just as the original on the rear of the speaker.

Next time please slow down and talk about all the issues that turn up when removing drivers. Thank you.
