- In this video we will show how to fit a gunsmith fit firing pin stop plate. This will solve extractor clocking and help resolve some feeding issues. A sheet of sandpaper on a surface plate works well for evenly reducing the thickness of the stop.

Yes it does.....A lot people don't realize how good some 1000 grit or even a nice India stone work.....I always start with sand paper and go to files only when needed.....

Bob, thank you so much. Being from the mountains of Va. trying to explain about the firing pin stop plate gets crazy. I like the fact it dampens the recoil. Mr. Browning intended to have all of them squared off like that however the little candy ass officers couldn't rack the side and ride a horse as easy. That's why he changed it. I appreciate you Bob.

I really appreciate your videos, this one particularly because I have this problem (throwing brass everywhere) with one of my 1911s. I have for almost 30 years wondered what could cause this and done all sorts of things to try and fix it. I think this may be the answer, finally.

I love these videos. If I was going to improve a great production I would have more close ups of what you consider obvious? For example you did mention (in passing) the firing pins sometimes hang up going in. I can count on it with mine. Also a close up of the install of the firing pin . That's a problem on a lot of 1911s. Seeing how YOU do it helps a lot. Thanks again Bob. It's obvious you were born for this work.

Square bottom or curved bottom stop ? Why do the 2 versions exist ? Thanks ✊🇺🇸
More about sales than anything, some say the flat bottom styles will lead to less felt recoil. I have never seen a difference. I generally use the curved bottom style unless a customer spec's the flat.

My issue is my firing pin stop isn’t fitting when I try to replace my extractor. I’ve been too afraid to hammer it home. Anyone have any thoughts on that? Thanks for the videos. 😊
First, with the parts out of the pistol just see if the stop plate will go into the slot on the extractor. If not you can just file a bit of material from the stop plate or the extractor slot, to fit. Generally start with the stop plate, but first check the slot in the extractor for any burrs that may be giving you trouble.
I have a Kimber compact 1911. I am not able to remove the pin stop. It seems to be stuck in place. How do I remove it without causing damage?
It is best to put the slide on a bench block, insert a 3/32" punch and while pushing in the firing pin you tap down on the plate, removing it. I do have a video on this. I will also get a short done this weekend to post.
