    I’m a big Ancient History fan and what a great figure to edit, the eldest Trojan prince and greatest son of Priam, Hector. Although in the Iliad, I find him slightly flawed like most characters in the poem. After several victories, he became a little more arrogant and camped outside the safety of the city walls, claimed the armour of Achilles from Patroclus' corpse, and enraged the wrath of Achilles. In the poem, Hector ran around the city of Troy three times whilst being chased by Achilles, which would've been ridiculous-looking if portrayed in the film. Also, to add, a lot of Hector’s lines in the film are actually predestining what’ll come to happen. In the myths, his only son Astyanax was thrown from the city walls by Odysseus, and his wife Andromache was taken as a slave. Attacking the Greek ships was a mistake too. Achilles, Patroclus, and the Myrmidons were readying to sail home and Troy would’ve won the war without Achilles fighting it.
    But, still, this character was the best in terms of morals and Eric Bana did a great performance on bringing him to life. The film is very inaccurate, but to me, it is still an iconic historical war film. I prefer it way more than the BBC series, Troy: Fall of a City. I'd like to make an Achilles vid (I highly recommend Zurik's edit) and a future Trojan War edit in the future.

      @aperfectdayradioforfamilie7492 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@RMFilmStudios *Possibly because Patroclus was not a man - and everything he had in his heart was a dream. He'd achieved very little. Hector was the physical embodiment of what accomplishment means - he was strong - able - and honored his entire civilization through just being and living and doing what he did. When he was killed, all he might have achieved still died with him. We know that odds are, based on what he'd already done and who he had already become, that he would've achieved great things. Patroclus lived in the shade of Achilles. He may have done great things, even small great things that still yet mattered to some who loved him - but he was untested, and lived in the shade of a greater man - according to some definitions. This is perhaps why Hector's death is much sadder in part. Patroclus went looking, against advice, for death - because he valued glory in a way that meant little to a person who has no children, no experience either. Hector was out to defend what he knew from experience he valued -- his family, his entire civilization. Completely different.

    From my point of view, it was Priam who caused the destruction of Troy:
    1. Hector tells Priam to put Helen on a ship and send her back Menelaus. Priam didn't follow good advice.
    2. Hector noticed Achilles and his warriors absent when Paris fought Menelaus, suggested there was trouble in the Greek army and the Trojans should not attack the ships as an attack would unify the Greeks. Priam ordered the Trojans to attack the ships.
    3. Paris told Priam he should burn the wooden horse. A priest told Priam it was a gift from the "gods" and they should bring it into the city. We all know what happened next....

    • @RMFilmStudios
      @RMFilmStudios  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There are definitely many factors as you’ve written down. In terms of myths rather than the film, I’d blame Paris for letting Zeus trick him into choosing which goddess to give the golden apple to. As soon as he gave it to Aphrodite, Troy’s fate was sealed.

    In this movie, Priam of Troy is just as, if not more, responsible for the fall of Troy as any Greek king.
    1. Hector suggested Priam send Helen back to Sparta and Priam chose not to take sage advice.
    2. Hector told Priam what the consequences would be if Paris kept his prize. With all the Greek forces bringing war to Troy, Priam listened his priests and his general's pep talk and chose wrong.
    3. Not seeing Achilles on the battlefield while repelling the Greeks, Hector knew there was conflict in the Greek army and attacking the Greeks would unify them. Priam didn't listen again.
    4. If Priam didn't order the Trojans to attack the Greeks, Patroclus doesn't steal Achilles' armor and doesn't confront Hector and lives for another day.
    5. Achilles kills Hector as Hector killed Patroclus.
    6. The Trojan Horse is brought into Troy by order of Priam who didn't listen to Paris who told him burn the thing. We all know what happens next.

    I remember this W. Petersen film very well with this top-class cast. As you mentioned in your description, the film cannot actually be viewed as a reproduction of Homer's Ilias. The deities are completely left out. Nonetheless it is a brilliant, great historical and war spectacle with love, loyalty, deception, intrigue and fighting. It was the first time - and only for a very short time - that I hated Brad Pitt for killing Hector and desecrating his corpse. Eric Bana excelled in his portrayal of the prince and brave Trojan warrior. All sympathies belonged to him and the Trojans. You made a really great and emotional edit. I appreciate all of your videos even if they're not about Outlander. You have a great talent and your videos are never trivial or clichéd and always get under my skin. Thank you Robbie 💜

    • @RMFilmStudios
      @RMFilmStudios  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s laughed at for its inaccuracies, but I can see where W.Petersen was coming from by leaving out the deities and even a lot of the war and Greek/Trojan heroes. Would’ve been so complicated to add all this together into 3 hours. The film and their actors got the personalities of their characters (that were shown) absolutely right and to me that was what was crucial for this. I never know which side to root for during the Trojan War 😅 Homer (could be others) did well to implement good and bad into both sides. Thank you for the final comments, that means a lot to read ☺️

    Great job! I also love this film regardless of the inaccuracies 😅. Hector was my favorite character and he is still my favorite in the Trojan War. He was very human and relatable. Even when he showed signs of fear (very human) he mustard up the courage to fight back. He killed a lot of Greek warriors in his own right and lived to fight for 9 years in a 10 year war! Long live the dutiful breaker of horses!

    I'm glad that the script writers modified the story from the original Iliad (Homer's book). This storyline is far better, with the characters having more depth than was described in the Iliad. Hector's character was given a much better characterization and more depth.

    Great man and Hero to his people , great warrior, husband , father and son!!!!! in the writings IF TRUE, THAT IS, Hector was around 43 years of age to Achilles being 32 years old, PRIME PRIME Condition
    Love to see a remake of Troy, maybe a two part film, maybe be like 1 50 minutes each film, and have all individual DUEL'S , ONE VS ONE BATTLES too!
    Troy part 1: The Achaean's Rise. Troy part 2: The Trojan's Fall.

    Old fashion heroes of antiquity fought for themselves. In the Iliad, Hektor was what we might call a hero in transition. While he admitted to not being able to hold himself back from fighting ("ever since I learned valor"), he really did fight on behalf of his people. What makes him stand out is his own insight into the fact that in the long run, he (and with him, Troy) simply could not win. So in effect, he was fighting only to buy his people and his family some time...in the end, when he had a chance to escape into the city, he refused, ashamed at his own failings and unable to bear the reproaches of the people...so, at the crucial moment, he became an old fashioned hero more concerned with himself than anything else, and died of this weakness. It is quite the compelling story.
