Yes, I noticed that downspout, too. Having that problem with a neighbor who doesn't know when they bought their house, their addition is on my property line and he recently put a new downspout draining down under my wood fence. Now they did the driveway and took part of my land. Can't wait for the surveyors. If you don't jump on it as soon as you see encroachment, title companies can be problematic when trying to sell.
I'm watching the channel for long time and I really like that you take all kind and size of jobs. That to me shows good character and a hard-working attitude. Also, I can't thank you enough for these videos.
Looked awesome as usual. Only one hour into it and concrete was already poured I was thinking omg thats fast! Pro job gets done on time. Impressive to say the least!
@nakedtommy40 actually it is against the law to deliberately force water to drain onto an adjacent property so the neighbors could have had a much bigger problem. A legal one.
The dirt in all these construction videos I watch always look like such nice dirt. No rocks, and comes up so easy. My dirt has countless rocks and roots and compacted clay. I’d love to experience what it’s like to sink a shovel into the ground and not be stopped 2 inches deep by a massive boulder.
I build a lot of fence, I always tap on the post with my pliers as I'm leveling, that also prevents the post from moving after you walk away. Nice work.
Looks very good, I like it that it’s not run of the mill like everyone else has, a very nice overall finish and job, thanks for sharing this with us and igniting a spark that people who are thinking of doing something similar, all the very best wishes for 2021.....Phil
I wish you were a contractor in my City. I have a drainage problem, a neighbor build up their property about 6" higher than mine and all their surface water collects on my property and the wooden fence is leaning to my side. It looks like this could be a solution to my problem. If I could find a contractor like you I would be less anxious in the Spring when the Alberta snow begin to thaw. Thanks for another informative video.
My mate did exactly the same as this job and when he had finished the neighbour took his fence down thus gaining about 8 inches down the full length of my mates garden. Some years later my mate built a double garage between his house and the fence but due to the lost 8 inches he could not use standard doors and had to buy specially made ones.
Odell, looks like you got the first gen Master Halco posts. I just set up a horizontal cedar fence with the second gen posts, and my front yard has a curb embedded like yours. I am not a pro, so I set the posts in holes with a partial fill and then came back and put up forms and poured the curb. All told, the curb was roughly 1 yard of white portland in a 4 parts 3/4, 3 parts sand, 1.5 part white portland mix, all mixed by hand in a 4 cuft mixer. It is probably a bit stronger than is needed for the use, but it was cold so the extra portland help us get some strength in it early. Definitely don't have your finishing skills, not sure how you make it look so easy. Thanks for posting all this great content.
Why I love pouring concrete in Orange County: No freeze/thaw cycles. How I love working in Southern California (except the commutes); we're spoiled. Forty-five years as a carpenter/GC/CM/superintendent, 99% in SoCal.
Enjoyed the video. Could you help with some details please. You didn't explain removing the back form, how you use the metal fence post to put up the pickets, or how you got the rounded edge on the curb. Can you share info on that please. Thank you.
Great to see the fiberglass rebar. Wondering about other polymers also since is neat to see how materials like hemp, cordura at a range of denier, kevlar and other materials can be "wetted" with resin or whatever polymer. Why not the same with cement as the "wetting" agent? There's even blow up huts where you basically water the burlap cement impregnated material that has like a bouncy tent blower thats high power to keep inflated until set. Anyhow... tangent from the carbon fiber or other materials potential as rebar and mesh. Union job security, reinforced concrete integrity, cost or what? Thanks for sharing!
This is exactly what I want to do between my driveway and my neighbours, who built their driveway 8 inches taller than mine. A fence would be nice too lol
Hola me acabo de SUSCRIBIR este es el segundo video que veo y me encanta a pesar de la dificultad del idioma PEROOOO mirando bien se aprende. Gracias por compartir.👍👍👍🤗🤗💯💯💯
I've been a fan of all your work. I do have a comment though. Master Halco Postmaster fence posts are supposed to be embedded a minimum of 24 inches, and that's in the ground with a concrete footing and 6 inch gravel base below that. I've seen many, many times where mbedding a fence post only in an above ground concrete curb or wall results in the concrete cracking from the lateral stress on the posts from wind blowing on the fence. Might not be as big a deal when you don't have any frost heave in your soil, but I've always used 9 foot posts, 36 inches down in the ground. But where I live we do have frost heave and 50 mph winds... Bottom line is I would have used the longer Postmasters and a picket pounder to drive them deeper in below the concrete into the soil. It would have anchored your curb a little bit too.
Thank you for your videos. I've been learning so much from you. Why is it that no control joints are added to this wall? Does it not need it if wall is not attached to patio? Thank you
Would it have been better if you placed the post in the enter of the curb, to prevent cracking one 1/3 of the curb? Just checking because this exactly what I want to do.
Such an informative video and outstanding work! I’m looking to do the same thing but I’m concerned about it heaving with freeze/thaw. Did this customer just have a shallow frost line? Or is the depth unnecessary for a curb like this? Any info would be much much appreciated.
I've been envisioning building a similar fence even down to the postmasters for a couple years and just happened across your video today. Are your postmasters just set to the depth of the curb, or do you have a deeper post hole that they sink into?? I can't tell from the video. I want to make a low retaining wall, maybe 18", with some backfill on one side for a paver patio. I'm thinking your design is pretty close to what I'll end up with. Thanks!
I tried the eco-friendly oils on a large job once... they didn't seem to release very well, even when the forms were soaked to the point they were dripping. I haven't tried canola (I've heard some people use it) but I've always had good luck with straight diesel and a little mineral oil.
I wonder how that neighborhood felt that you built that slab higher than his. I can only imagine the flood it will cause on his backyard... there is nowhere for the water to go, but back into his property, especially with the step down he has on his side, hopefully he has less impervious backspace.. nice work though.
Beautiful work , simlpe and elegant ! I love the look of concrete but i dont know how to use it . Can i get that water repeling property you mentioned from using bag concrete from the hardware store like Lowe's or Home Depot ?
When the gate was open and I saw the neighbors downspout pointing directly to the fence I knew what the issue was. Very nice job, once again!

Another great job done by Odell Complete Concrete! That concrete pad looks great and it will last a very long time!

water drainage problem is officially back to the neighbor
Bingo
Looks to me like this was done in spite of the neighbor. You could have easily added a drain pipe for him in the new dam wall. Sad.
Have a similar problem.thanks
@nakedtommy40 actually it is against the law to deliberately force water to drain onto an adjacent property so the neighbors could have had a much bigger problem. A legal one.

Зато у нас любят песок сыпать на дно от которого больше вреда чем пользы.
Тут дома строят на каменных отвалах утрамбованных. Сначала насыпают горы камней, кладут коммуникации, трамбуют. Потом строят район. Там нет земли.

One place I lived neighbors across the street had a 25 ft. tall block wall from the 1970's between their property's. It was called a "spite wall" 😃
Twenty five foot block wall????????????????? That doesn't even sound safe and yet it's lasted almost 50 years?
Most municipalities have fence height restrictions in part, to prevent this kind of thing.
