You have to now the story. She broke with her mom and livednin the streets since she was 13. So she sang on the streets and developed that dept soul voice. Then she was fostered by those people who are friends of her mom and they help her.
So its hard to get a voice like that because it needs pain in the process...

Amy, Beyonce, Madonna, Adele and another few hundred personalities they not have just amazing voices, but plus a rare talent that make them manage to sing their own creations without live like Karise, all life doing cover and imitating celebrity voices without being authentic. Yes, Karise is really good, for a cover singer.

This is arguably the single best audition on any talent show EVER. There are very few instances in music or art where on can truly say this is the best ,because there is so much subjectivity
involved in a statement like that .
However with ms Edens performance , the power , clarity , tone , phrasing , emotion etc. is so unique and exceptional that one would be hard pressed to beat that performance

The thing was not even to listen if shes good but to comprehend that fast how to push that button. You just dont expect that within a second.
They were all too dumbfounded in the first 5 seconds to even react. She had to finish that note before their brains could be freed
Casey Schrantz I noticed the same. If their brains would've functioned passed the shock of how great she is from the get go, they would've turned around in half the time. What she was singing isn't even my taste in music but she sang it with such a powerfully attractive voice I got chills within the first seconds & my jaw dropped.

I listen to the radio. All the boy-bands, all the auto-tuned ladies. I honestly cannot tell one from the other. Karise and Lorde? They're the two most unique, most stand-out voices of this generation.
I wonder why are Australians so talented ? In my humble opinion, I watch this shows(Voice , Got talent Xfactor etc) from every English speaking country + Spanish and Romania(my origins) and I have to say the ones from Australia are the best most quality packed performers in each show. Good job Aussies !!

We need to cultivate and encourage talented individuals like her. In this generation of poster boys and girls we've lost an essential grasp on music in its pure state. It's not 'Good looks' and 'large assets' that should be given priority. It's this kind of raw talent that needs to shine amidst the current degenerate mess.

Sure, you have to be a great singer first, but nothing but life and experience can give you that type of emotion to sing this song with. Look at all those who have song this song great, including James Brown. Those people have been through some heavy stuff in their lives. They sing with soul and feeling and that's life.
LifeAFanOf She has gone through a lot. Being homeless and then she was abused by a man in a refuge . I am happy she won and I hope she is doing well. I did hear she was in hospital for attempting suicide and that made me sad knowing she still has her demons .

There has never been (and probably never will be) another audition quite like this. I have watched The Voice Australia every year since, and I have never seen an audition or contestant that left the judges so shocked, amazed and in so much awe since. She really is a legend.

Carise also recently performed in the Fleetwood Mac tribute show at the State Theatre.

Saw her perform live in a pub in North Perth a few years back and she was incredible. So many with far less have much more.....this is real talent....

I agree 100% with you. It's not a rude thing to say at all. I may be wrong, but I think one of the judges said that she's a white woman with a black soul because of her voice. Black people have that special voice that I particularly find even more attractive than the white ones. It's not a rude comment, it's just a comment.

She said black because the voice was soulful, heavier set because it was powerful, and smoker because it has an amazing rasp to it. Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle were both heavier women who were power singers, and they are legendary. How is it racist when the girl who made the comment liked the voice? Almost 2021 - ten years down the track - and this is STILL the single best vocal performance I have ever heard. And I've heard some. The effortless blending and switching of pitch and timbre, the arrangement - which sorry to say but even in 30s I think is better than James Brown's and I mean that is really saying something because I feel it's one of his best tracks - and Karise's 'at ease' stage presence is one of the most powerful vocal deliveries you'll ever hear. On the last note, I swear to god, when she moves the mic away from her mouth, the ambient mics are resonating and still picking up the power of her voice even though she's not singing into the microphone. Nearly ten years on... That's talent, people. THAT is talent.

That wasn't her father. They were like a foster aunty and uncle because she had trouble at home and basicaly lived in refuges. They taught her how to play guitar and their door was always open to her. She left school at 12 years old and lived from refuge to refuge. Tough life but she has come out the other end and is now a mum.
